2 IPad Apps r+ i Collins Big Cat - The Steam Train,. This is one of several animated books for young readers by Collins. Children have several options: have the story read to them, read the story themselves, adapt the images to create their own story. They can write their own text or record their narrative. They also have opportunities to add speech bubbles and thought bubbles Bubbles of Math A no-nonsense addition game... A target number appears at the top and the child has to tap two numbers that add up to that target. Gradually the bubbleslballs drop and the child scores a time against the clock to try to beat next time. As the levels go up, the numbers get larger. It's a bright, colourful and simple way to speed up basic adding skills. Toontastic This great app guides the children through creating a storyboard with scenes and characters that they can animate. The children can add dialogue as they record each scene and then have the option.of wide range of classical tracks to add moods! They can draw their own backgrounds or I use one of the default scenes. The app comes free with a small bank of characters / puppets. Lego Super Heroes Movie Maker Plan a story, create an artistic backdrop, set up your lego characters in the first scene and then start taking lots of individual frames using the ipad camera, moving the characters just a little each time. Then add music and captions and play it back as a movie! This is a great way to bring storywriting to life!

3 .Il'ad Apps Math, age 4-6 This is has such a range of great activities! It is a super app with a great virtual teacher to guide the children through the tasks which cover everything from basic number work to sequences, position and direction, fractions, shapes, mathematical language, division and more! The initial app is free. You will need the full version so be prepared to pay. Pirate Treasure Hunt This is an app providing a variety of problem solving opportunities for children. As you help Pirate Jack to find the hidden treasure you take part in mathematical and literacy based tasks: shapes, spelling, addition sums, sequencing, and time problems, etc. It is great for the variety it offers and encouraging the children to adapt from one type of skill to another. Phonics Tic- Tac- Toe This provides a great interactive opportunity for children to work on their phonics skills through play. Each grid provides a range of questions aimed at developing and testing children's word skills, knowledge of letter sounds, blends and rhymes. An adult may need to be available to support some of the reading if needed. ABC Mysteriez Hidden Letters All the letters of the alphabet are hidden away within super detailed images. There is a sense of competition with a timer ticking away as they seek all the letters. It is great for visual discrimination, developing their eye for detail. Additional levels may need to be purchased. Collins Big Cat - Around The World This is a great animated book for young readers by Collins. 4 'IPadApps PopWords! A classic wordfinder app. As you make words from adjoining letters they 'pop' and new letters fall into the spaces. There are a variety of obtions and you can build up from practising to timed challenges. This is a P1pular game based loosely on the old 'Boggle' game. Puppet Pals BD This is fun and simple animation app. For free, you are provided with a limited collection of 'puppets' or cartoon characters and some backdrops. You can then act out scenes, move them around, record audio, generally get creative! The completed scene can then be exported to your camera roll to be used as part of a film. If you are willing to buy the Director's Pass ( 1.99) you can access all the options, including a range of characters and settings and the chance to use your own photographs as backdrops. You can also use images of yourself and crop the outlines to create puppets of yourselfl Phonics Lilies This is a simple, progressive phonics app with a friendly bee guiding you through the activities. It has a British accent which is a real bonus! Children can develop their knowledge of individual letter sounds and then blends and vowel digraphs. If you want your children to use the reward feature of planting their seeds in a virtual garden you'll need to buy the full version. Dropwords This is a twist on the classic 'Boggle' game. Form words from letters adjacent or diagonal to each other. As the word is formed the letters disappear and a new letters drop into each column. How many words can you make in two minutes? What is the longest word you can make? Pretty addictive and you can set up children playing against each other.
