Proposal for a Broadcast System Integration. BROADCAST SYSTEM INTEGRATION PROJECT FOR A TELEVISION A brief description of A Television Station technical Integration scope of work Flat: 2-B,House: 78, Road: 7, Block: H Banani, Dhaka-1213 Bangladesh Cell: atiksohel@bbs-bd.com support@bbs-bd.com
INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION The broadcast industry has come a long way since its beginnings. In the last 10 years, developments have really accelerated. The changes have been swift and the survivors have been forced to adopt the latest delivery technologies in order to keep up with the trend. The Broadcaster has to bring his cost of operation down, give much better quality of programming and has to somehow stand out from the crowd. Bangladesh Broadcast Systems Ltd. understands these needs and has the expertise and experience of executing successful System Integration projects of various scales and complexities to stand out of the crowd. This helps our customers to reach new heights of efficiency and effectiveness. Why need system integrator Is a big question now? In a television station needs multi-dimension equipment s, hardware, software and they need to communicate with each other for production. Some of them manual operation, some of them automated. Still there is no one equipment manufacturer who can provide end to end solution. Some company only focus on cameras, some company focus RF signal, some company focus on basic baseband, Some of them are IT based systems and many more sections. We need to be informative about them, verify specification, collect, pre-sales evolution each and every section equipment s, hardware, software and then confirm. Each and every equipment run by own language, style and performance capability but we need to make them uniform of their language, style without reducing the performance and make sure that everyone in same page. Otherwise the workflow will not perform properly and the result is human working hour will waste. Here Bangladesh Broadcast Systems Ltd. will work. We have certain personnel who are very well named for their efficiency, expertise, experiences, capability and trustworthiness in entire region on broadcast installation. From where we can start Bangladesh Broadcast Systems Ltd can start from the production planning of the station, meet with management and core team of content, take their feedback, discuss with current scenario of show business, finalize the production plan and then design the technical facility for that production and figure out our scope of work by lowest CAPEX. Our goal will maximum utilization of technical facility but efficiently and reduce the OPEX. After define the scope we shall discuss all selected solution manufacturer for action plan. We shall bring all vendor in one page to complete the workflow, replace if require, add-on if justified by lowest expenses. At the time of pre installation we will again re-check with manufacturer, verify the workflow, verify the compatibility with other section and then confirm the Technical Bill of Materials. AND THOSE WILL BE READY FOR INSTALL/UPGRADE/RE- PLACE.
How BBS can engage? Bangladesh broadcast Systems can engage with a television station on following ways 1. A System integrator: Bangladesh Broadcast Systems is ready for work as Systems integration by define scope. Customer has full right to work anyone and this is should be competitive. Bangladesh Broadcast Systems can ensure the local availability with the quality and performances 2. A Technical consultant Bangladesh Broadcast Systems can be appoint as a technical consultant of any TELEVISION for a certain period which main job will be, discuss with user, discuss with technical personnel, management, decision makers and to figure out the recommendation which can be execute by phase. Bangladesh Broadcast Systems will suggest by alternatives with multiple options. Bangladesh Broadcast Systems will help to negotiation with manufacturer. And confirm them requirements. Customer management will be final authority of execute the scopes. 3. Or above both can be together in a single scope. After commissioning, System integrator will perform a great job for them who will interact with installed technical facility for giving the final output. The man behind the machine.the team of your station is the key performer who only can justify your expenses on technical facility. Training for your team. Bangladesh Broadcast Systems Ltd. is very unique on this section, we have a numbers of personnel who are working in this sector last 6 to 10 years as both System Integrator and end user side. We know the kick-off in Bangladesh on broadcasting sector, also we know the latest updates of Technology, production and trends. So we can transfer them about proper utilization of resources for operation to achieve better production, look and feel which will make extra attraction for viewer and the end result will be more viewership and more engage. We also can share them the current dimension of world show business either it will be news or program. Bangladesh Broadcast Systems Ltd. will help to reach the GOAL, as well be a team member, we shall proud to be a bridge for reaching at GOAL.
This document is a simple brief from the understanding and discussions of the team has with the various customers. This gives an overview and plans for customer objectives. However, there could be changes in the final version based on the approvals from customer management and team.
SYSTEM INTEGRATION PROCESS Project Execution Process is based on best practices in the industry and Quality management systems - Guidelines for quality management in projects. All the projects are divided in to processes, and sub-processes, and further aligned with different functions and sub-functions to manage the project efficiently. This modular breakdown of different phases of a project helps us to execute, manage and control the project efficiently and hence delivering a successful project for the client. Overall breakdown of different project phases are shown below and the involvement of different teams during the course of the project A sample scope with framework definition break-up is given for the systematic process-based tasks undertaken by as part of the System Integration. The process is bit different from a new installation than on-aired station re-integration.
SYSTEM INTEGRATIONS SERVICES AND SCOPE As a System integrator, we will focus on following section, subsection and modules in a systematic procedure.
SYSTEM INTEGRATIONS SERVICES AND SCOPE
SYSTEM INTEGRATIONS SERVICES AND SCOPE System Requirements The system requirements are based on the following main objectives: At first need to analyse the existing facility. Need to figure out of maximum utilization of existing solution by lowest the CAPEX. Focus on the upcoming format options to compete the market. Provide best of the market options currently available at the best possible budget. Get the best format available in the equipment for the superior quality possible Broadcast and transmission options to be optimized for the local conditions Workflow and concepts that are suitable for the objective of Production plan. To make the channel stand-out to get more viewership in terms of technology used. Reduce the OPEX without compromise quality.
Concept and Methodology After a long experiences on broadcast arena we have arrived at the following concepts and methods to meet the objectives: With the current trends in the broadcast industry making a clear choice of format and viewer preference along with the large scale consumer television choices HD will be a clear choice for any new channel to sustain in the coming years. However, while the choices in the production of in-house broadcast chain are much economical and immediately possible in Digital HD transmission but reaching the enduser are still very much a challenge and depends on local conditions. The Broadcast transmission plan in HD is still a choice on budget and availability of local cable operators who can handle this effectively. While it is tempting to add the HD transmission in the chain and providing a full HD to the cable operators, the provision of last mile quality will still be in the hands of operators. Providing the commercial set-top box to handle HD as well as SD out is a priority, as most of the consumer television are still in SD and expected the same for some time to come. However, this method will provide a better option for operators with access to premium customers. Our primary concept in this case, is to make both these options available to on air and informed management decision about the option to take. In short, We will choose and advise for getting equipment that are capable of providing: HD production and output Production switchers and final output conversion that can be given in HD Playout servers that are capable of doing a playout in format independent Transmission equipment that will handle both options Glues and convertors to support conversion of incoming feeds as well as those presentable to viewers On the workflow side, making sure that handling of these formats are properly advised, created standard procedures for regular operators to handle this without much intervention on daily basis from engineering. We will also help in few more choices to be done in the workflow to make the channel flexible at the same time presentable as a HD quality channel and a choice for the viewers
Choices affecting quality and performance The specific choices to make are to get the best quality of content recorded and create them as assets for the channel, making sure that the content produced with lots of effort is properly presented to the viewership and also get the maximum out of the content by archiving and re-using it as and when necessary. After the initial discussions, a complete sample documentation of channel workflow with a few choices of equipment will make and submit, that will help in keeping the objectives clear and understandable to the team. The component choices may vary in the final Equipment BOQ as per the choices and selection from the management, but the operational workflow for the channel will essentially remain same. Some of the ground rules in making these choices with clear understanding on purpose and compromises is to have the teams all on the plans and objectives. This needs to be confirmed with the core management team that will be in the monitoring of each of these requirements discussion. Once these BOQ are finalized and integrated, a proper technical and operational training of the system needs to be done. Training manuals and documentations are also provided for future record and reference. This helps to understand the workflow, how to use and troubleshoot the system. Our trainers are some of the best professionals in industry in their respective areas. We has professionally qualified Engineers who are trained on various broadcast automation, MAM and other solutions or products.

Workflow the main theme around operational effectiveness We strongly believe that a strong workflow mechanism is the key to making sure the technology is properly adopted and used effectively. Getting the best products from the market that may not work with each other is a sure way to create islands in the work place that will lead to long time in getting the information to the screen. Effective workflow need proper planning on equipment that will work with each other and help the creative people making the best out of the technology investment. The major area of operational workflow we need to identify for A TELEVISION production workflow: Number of ccontent information from various sources including the remote sites, studios, organized agency inputs will all be received in highest possible quality and captured in HD format. While the capture is done, a low-res browse file will be created in the system for production team verify the story line as well as check the content worthiness. Either captured content for news will go through NRCS assignment for the news? Content playout from Video server, Graphics output from the engine, Prompter input for Anchor will all be driven by automation. There are multiple options with the help of new technology at this time to capture content and handle automated way. Shall we be concentrating on getting these new social media interfaces as well as remote client interfaces into the system that will enhance the system as well as improve the image of the channel in the new generation group? LNG/DSNG/ENG will also use technology that will be proven as well as new including New backpack 3G/4G/Wi-Fi/Wi-Max compatible that will transmit video through cellular data network where ever possible in order to save cost as well as improve time to go on-air Once the on-air conditions are met and content was broadcasted the valuable content needs to be archived and made into asset for future use. This will be in focus from the time of Ingest preparation. This is in-essence making sure that meta-data information is provided properly from the beginning of the chain and the content is archived in the best possible resolution into cost-effective tapes. The archived materials can be retrieved anytime through the automation Systems available in the production chain based on search criteria that are tied to the meta-data created. These can be checked visually from the Low-res files and restored for repurposing. After integration and training, dry-runs tests are conducted and system is tested for live operations. System is handed over after successful and satisfactory operation with specific teams identified for the operation and areas of work improvement. A regular monitoring on the effectiveness and usage will be a good plan to test and improve over a period of time for which TELEVISION can request options from Bangladesh Broadcast Systems Ltd. We can make sure that operational team is comfortable and understand the system to use it in the most effective way. Some of the operational areas need to be worked in coordination with the team members and built based on the local expertise and requirements including the provisions for ENG, Links between the remote sites, effective use of required bandwidth in the local cellular and transmission system etc. These are work in progress to be confirmed with effective discussion and consultation with management group. At this time, for the purpose of understanding The prepared RFQ, Schematic drawings as well as the Site layout with Cable tray management along with layout for Engineering areas are attached as annexure in the documentation for reference. These are initial documents and more to be confirmed based on the discussions with the management and the Teams.
