4 About MATTEO Matthew Lenoci founded MATTEO in 1996 to create simple sheets from the most luxurious textiles in the world. We weave with the leading fabric mills in Italy where the collective wisdom of centuries is combined with cutting-edge technology. We sew right here in Los Angeles in a large workshop adjacent to our design studio. The constant circulation between design & production yields a fertile creative environment and unparalleled quality control. Our linens are exclusively distributed by the finest specialty stores & interior designers and also used in the finest hotel properties around the world. The full range of the MATTEO collection can be found at our flagship store within ABC Carpet & Home in New York and our showroom in Los Angeles. Design Philosophy We make our beds every morning. Therefore, our beds are simple. The seasons of the year are worth savoring. Sometimes we sleep on the deck under a linen sheet; sometimes we weigh down the duvet with blankets. Central air is nice, but an open window with fresh air is better. Our sheeting is woven and finished to the same exact standards as those of the finest men s shirting; you never need to wear anything to bed with MATTEO. Notions of Luxury The luxury of leaving your pajamas in the dresser, the luxury of using renewable resources, the luxury of knowing the craftsmen who made your bedding were paid a living wage. We believe the splendid little details provide as much pleasure as the bold strokes look for saddle- stitching, pin-tucking, and piped seams. We would never want to distract you from your thoughts, from your lover, from your sleep. We all deserve a place of rest. The MATTEO home stands in calm contrast to the complicated demands of life outside a modern sanctuary where you refresh mind, body and soul. 4

5 Garment Dyeing We are one of very few bed linen companies that use this modern dyeing technology. With garment dyeing, we cut and sew the fabric first and then dye the finished products after they are already sewn. There are a number of advantages to garment dyeing including a more vintage washed look, the ability to offer more colors because of lower dyeing minimums, and softer fabric hand-feel. However, there is the shade variation of +/- 10% from dye-lot to dye-lot. What does this mean? It means that bed linens dyed in one of our colors today will be a slightly different shade than bed linens dyed in the same color tomorrow. All of us at MATTEO sleep on our sheets and we notice that after a few home washing and once the linens are on our bed, we really cannot tell the difference between two pillowcases or shams from different lots or even two sheets from different lots. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the greatest appeal of garment-dyeing is that in fact each and every product is unique and different than anyone else s. We are very proud of being the industry leader in garment-dyed bed linens and intend to use this exiting technology to better serve you for many years to come 5

6 Our Dyeing Process All MATTEO products are garment-dyed TO ORDER right here in Los Angeles. We cut, sew, dye and pack every order individually. We use local dye-houses that use low-impact eco-friendly dyes. There are 3 basic types of dyeing. The color is bonded either physically or chemically to the fabric for us to see. What we see is that which is reflected from the fabric rather than what is absorbed. PIGMENT The color is pasted onto the fabric through a physical bonding agent or glue The color eventually rubs off Pigment-dyed garments tend to be less colorfast. The pigment dye is a layer on the surface of a textile; therefore fading is imminent. REACTIVE The color is chemically bonded to the fabric The color will fade if bleached The color will fade when exposed to direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time. For example, sunlight reflected through a window can fade the color of sheeting over time. VAT A complex dyeing process that creates a strong chemical bond that is very resilient and difficult to remove Resistant to bleach and sunlight Here at MATTEO, we use the REACTIVE process for dyeing and printing all of our fabrics. We do this because the VAT process of dyeing does not allow re-dyeing which is often necessary to produce our MATTEO colors. To maintain the color of sheeting, we recommend not using bleach and to avoid exposing them to intense and continual sunlight. We also use YARN-DYEING. This is the process of dyeing our yarns and threads with VAT dyes BEFORE weaving the fabric. We use yarn-dyeing for our Tick and Elsa fabrics. This process is also used for our Guest Collection and hotel orders to ensure the threads do not run and fade when bleached. 6

We don t complicate matters, rather, we perfect the century old textile practices and are dedicated to making the finest product. 11 Care Instruction Our linens are valued for their durability. With repeated use and proper laundering, MATTEO linens will become softer, smoother, more absorbent and luxurious. MATTEO linens are guaranteed to be beautiful for generations when cared properly. CARE INSTRUCTION WASHING dry clean machine wash warm machine wash cool/cold bleach may by used do not bleach Vintage Linen may be machine washed or dry-cleaned. For home laundering, we recommend a lukewarm wash cycle with a gentle detergent and a cool rinse. Do not use bleach. If pre-soaking is necessary, use cold water. Avoid over-drying the linen by using a cool dryer setting. Cotton or percale should be separated into light and dark colors. Do not overload your machine as this will damage long cotton fibers. We recommend a lukewarm wash cycle with a gentle detergent and a cool rinse. Bleach may be used for white cotton bed linens only. For best home laundering results for cotton and linen sheeting, allow your washing machine to fill up and begin agitating before adding detergent. DRYING tumble dry low tumble dry medium line dry Remove washed bed lines promptly from the machine to reduce wrinkling. Tumble dry with low heat to remove excess water. For best results, remove linens while damp and line dry. PRESSING iorn on low iron on high MATTEO linens should be pressed while damp using the cotton or linen setting. Remove linens promptly and fold carefully, smoothing the fabric as you fold. 11
