3 Pressure Transmitters and Gauges NLI supplies pressure and differential pressure transmitters for remote indication, including harsh in-containment transmitters. NLI also offers pressure gauges for both local and remote indication. In addition to measuring pressure for indication purposes, pressure switches are supplied for alarm and automatic functions. Level Measurement Remote level measurement is accomplished using several technologies, including simple pressure or differential pressure. NLI worked with Krohne to develop harsh in-containment level transmitters for the new AP1000 plants. Krohne s radar level transmitters are also supplied for various applications, including a version specifically modified and qualified for spent fuel pools. 4 Nuclear Flow Measurement Most legacy flow measurement involved measuring the differential pressure across an orifice or nozzle. This method is inaccurate at low flow levels and inefficient at all flow levels. Modern flow measurement is much more accurate and technologies such as ultrasound do not require a restriction in flow. NLI supplies ultrasonic flow transmitters from Krohne, as well as several other modern technologies. Ultrasonic flow measurement measures the difference in time for sound waves to pass diagonally in the same general direction as the flow compared to the same path against the general flow. This method is extremely accurate and multiple measurements can compensate for turbulence, laminar flow, and other fluid dynamics that lead to inaccuracies. Krohne has developed an eleven-pass ultrasonic flow transmitter for feedwater flow measurement. It is the most accurate flow measurement device available and eliminates the need for flow straighteners. This flow transmitter is ideal for power uprates. 5 Valve Position Indication NLI supplies TopWorx non-contact position switches for both linear and quarter-turn valve position indication. The TopWorx GO-Switch uses three internal magnets of varying size and strength plus a large moving target magnet that moves with the valve stem. When the target magnet is aligned with the GO-Switch, the two moving internal magnets will move toward the target, closing the contacts and indicating position. When the target is not aligned, the internal moving magnets behave like a spring and move in the opposite direction opening the contacts. The rare earth magnets will only lose 1% of their strength during the 100 year qualified life. The long qualified life, which also includes an additional year post-loca, and the fact they are fully submersible, makes them the ideal position switch for both harsh in-containment and balance of plant applications. 6 Nuclear Seismic Monitoring Systems NLI supplies complete seismic monitoring systems from the Swiss manufacturer GeoSIG. These highly accurate and reliable systems are installed in nuclear facilities worldwide. Digital Meters Old analog meters use obsolete technology and are obsolete in the sense that they can no longer be purchased. NLI supplies the OTEK line of digital meters, which are available in round and linear formats, externally powered or loop powered, and available in single or multiple parameters. OTEK meters use low power consumption LEDs to display both a scale that can be read from long distances as well as Arabic numerals for highly accurate readings. No analog meter can show 80.5%. OTEK meters are programmable and can change colors between green, yellow, and red to show normal, abnormal, or alarm conditions. Loop-powered meters will indicate a loss of signal whereas analog meters will simply display the parameter as being zero. Digital meters cannot stick a common problem with analog meters.
