Where do I call if I wish to advertise on buses, benches, shelters or garbage containers? Call Bus Bench Promotions Are transit drivers City employees? GP Transit contracts for driver and dispatch services with Cardinal Coach Lines Limited. Does Grande Prairie have an adult Disabled Transportation System? The Disabled Transportation Society (DTS) is a non-profit group. Please call RIDE (7433). Do you have accessible transit? (Low floor, wheelchair access) GP Transit now has nine full-sized low floor buses. Low floor buses do not have stairs inside the front and rear doors. They are equipped with a front door accessible ramp and a kneeling feature that permits easier access for persons with mobility aids or who have difficulty climbing steps or who may use a wheelchair. Space is available on each low floor bus for two wheelchairs on a first come, first served basis. Passengers with disabilities who use low floor bus service are expected to do so without assistance from the transit operator. GP Transit drivers will engage the kneeling and ramp features of the bus, raise the necessary seats and assist with belt securement. Passengers who use wheelchairs are expected to be able to maneuver their wheelchairs on and off the bus and into one of the two designated wheelchair positions, and use the wheelchair securement systems. Any passengers who require assistance to access the designated wheelchair positions and use the wheelchair securement system must travel with a companion who will provide the required assistance. These buses operate on regular transit routes hourly. GP Transit makes every effort to ensure that accessible buses are assigned to trips marked L. But, mechanical problems or traffic conditions may result in a change to bus assignments. Are animals allowed on buses? Companion dogs are allowed on the buses. Small pets in a proper carrier are allowed. Who can ride the bus free? Persons showing a Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) National card ride free. Persons who receive Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) can receive free passes. If I receive Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) how do I get my free pass? Passes for the upcoming month are available AFTER the 15th day of the current month (e.g. to apply for a January pass, apply after December 15). Passes are available at ONE LOCATION ONLY - Cashier, First Floor, Grande Prairie City Hall, Street. (Open 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday thru Friday.) Travel Tips Grande Prairie Transit drivers do their best to maintain schedules, so that you may arrive safely and on time. On occasion, road construction, very inclement weather, a maintenance problem or a major traffic tie-up may put the bus behind schedule. Your patience and understanding is appreciated at these times. The following tips on bus travel will make your trip go more smoothly: Have your fare ready. Drivers do not carry change or handle money. When entering the bus, deposit your fare or plainly display your pass. Stand well back off the curb while waiting at the bus stop. Use caution when entering and leaving the bus. For the convenience of those boarding, please exit by the rear door whenever possible. When you need to take more than one bus to reach your destination, ask the driver for a transfer when you pay your cash or ticket fare. Be sure to tell the driver which bus you wish to transfer to. Transfers valid for 90 minutes. When approaching your destination, signal the operator to stop by pulling the cord above the window. Avoid talking to the operator unless you need to ask for information. Transit drivers set their watches to the 11:00 AM time tone on CBC Radio. Statutory Holidays Grande Prairie Transit Routes do not operate on New Year s Day, Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. On the following Statutory Holidays, Sunday service hours apply. These are: Family day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving, Remembrance Day and Boxing Day. 3
