2 REPORT ON INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS Freedom in mind Faith in the words Pride in our souls. Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervor at Navy Children School, Nausena Baugh. The celebrations started at 8 a.m. in the school assembly area with the students from grade VI th to XII th and the school staff. The assembly proceedings were taken over by the students of Grade VI. To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, Dr. Parul Kumar, Principal, unfurled the National Flag and all in unison sang the National Anthem. Speaking on the occasion Dr Parul Kumar, emphasized on the need to safe guard the independence earned by our freedom fighters. Students of grade VI th presented a very informative speech in English and Hindi on the struggle for independence. The students also enthralled the audience by presenting a wonderful patriotic dance. Continuing with the celebrations- Inter House Patriotic Group Singing Competition was conducted. The judge for this competition was Mr. Ravi Kumar, Music expert. All the four houses presented melodious patriotic songs which aroused the patriotism in the people present on the occasion. The songs made fresh the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and the commitment to carry the legacy ahead. Students from Grade VI to XII and the School Staff of Navy Children School, Nausena Baugh, Participated in Mass recitation of National Anthem on 23 August 2016 as a mark of the closing ceremony of fortnight celebrations of 70 th Independence Day. 8 1. With reference to notification no. 17 dated 10 Aug Event -Independence Day celebrations on 15 Aug No of Children attended Classes - I to V 5. Report- Independence day celebration commenced at 0800 hrs. The Head Mistress, Mrs Ranjana Deb hoisted the National Flag which was followed by National Anthem and pledge. The music club children sang the song- Saare Jahaan se achhaa, two students of class V spoke about the essence of our independence and its importance, and a patriotic poem in Hindi was recited by a child. Mrs Ranjana Deb addressed the staff and students and greeted them on the occasion of India s 70 th Independence day. The cultural program was followed by a PT display by the energetic sports club students of class III,IV, and V. Students organized themselves into a formation a conducted drills using various props such as dumbbells. The program concluded with a pyramid display where in children showcased 5-6 pyramid formations. Message : To spread the message of Independence and promote the spirit of patriotism among the students Page 8

Head Mistress Mrs Ranjana Deb hoisted the national flag followed by the school prayer. Thereafter the tree plantation activity was carried out by Head Mistress Ranjana Deb and student council consisting of Captain, Vice Captain, and Prefects of the four houses, the nature club students and teachers. The plantation was witnessed by the whole school 1596 students and 75 teachers. An Ashoka sapling was planted to symbolize the spirit of peace and togetherness. Message: To inculcate the idea of a sustainable environment, to nurture the nature as it has done for us and to make our mother earth evergreen. Page 10

Report - The school is situated in Nausena Baugh, Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam. To mark the occasion of Azadi -70 the Head Mistress Mrs. Ranjana Deb planted a tree and flagged off the Freedom Run. Approximately 500 students with their escort teachers began the run. The head boy was the bearer of the National Flag at forefront and the students followed behind him in a formation. Various slogans were recited by the students such as Vande Matharam, Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Sare Jahan Se Acha, Jai Hind. The students took a route run inside Nausena Baugh and the run was concluded when they reached the school at 0830hrs. Report The participants were dressed up as freedom fighters such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sarojini Naidu, Durgabai Deshmukh, Lala Lajpathi Roy,Annie Besant. The participants enacted out a scene depicting the atrocities by the British army on the Indians and India -Sone Ki Chidiya was shown to be in a ruined state. The next scene showed a participant portraying Mahatma Gandhiji and the freedom fighters following him and entering the stage with the song Raghupathi Raghava Rajaram playing and Mahatma Gandhiji spreading the message of non violence and peace. The skit culminated with a dance depicting the true spirit of Vandemataram and India rejoicing its freedom. A student of class II also presented herself as Digital India (prop used- Map of India depicting technology). She spoke on Digital India The dream of 1.2 Billion Indians and how this dream since 1 st July,2015 is slowly becoming a reality. She further added that under the leadership of our honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India will soon achieve its dream of becoming a great Global Nation. Message The younger generation was shown a glimpse of the freedom movement so as to help them understand the sacrifice and struggle our great freedom fighters went through to gain India s independence. And thus we should honour their sacrifice and value our nation s freedom. Page 14

16 1. Date Class- V 3. No. of Participants Activity- Card making 5. Theme- Greeting cards for the jawans posted at the border. 6. Report- All the students of class V were involved in this activity. They were required to make cards for the soldiers posted at the border thanking them for their great sacrifice and efforts they make to keep our border safe and secure. Each student made a card which they themselves designed and painted along with a quote which conveyed their heartfelt gratitude and sincere appreciation to all the soldiers. The cards were posted to the following two Indian Army units- 1) Col Ravinder Joshi, Commanding Officer, 508 ASC Bn, C/O 56 APO. 2) Maj Anit D Warang, E- Company Commander, 15 Rashtriya Rifle, C/O 56 APO Pin Message- Through this activity the children were given an opportunity to express their gratitude towards our jawans who have been courageously protecting our country s borders and keeping the nation safe. Report-Two teachers summarised the activities conducted from to under the programme Azadi-70 Yaad Karo Kurbani. They spoke on the freedom movement and also highlighted the great struggle and nonviolence that helped India achieve its freedom on 15 Aug As we have entered the 70 th year of Independence, we salute the real heroes who make various sacrifices each and every day to ensure that the nation and its citizens are safe, secure and peace is maintained. The nation s remarkable journey of development in the field of education, technology, agriculture, sports and literacy was also highlighted. An appeal was made to the young generation to keep up the spirit of patriotism and freedom by maintaining harmony with all. The fortnight culminated with the children singing patriotic songs such as- Saare jahan sa accha Hind desh ke niwasi Page 18
