Family: Married, with 2 daughters. Contact Details: Springbok Drilling Ltd. South Monkshill, Fyvie, Aberdeenshire, AB53 8RQ, United Kingdom. +44 (0) angus.mckay@springbok-drilling.com Key Words: Drilling Supervisor, Senior Drilling Engineer, HPHT, Jack-up, Semi-Submersible, Subsea Development & Production Drilling, Exploration Drilling, Template Drilling, Norway, UK. CAREER HISTORY: Feb Present Oct 2015 Present Aug 2015 Oct 2015 Springbok Drilling Ltd Night DSV Total Exploration & Production Norge AS. Night Drilling Supervisor for the TEPN Solaris uhpht exploration well in Norway. This well will be drilled from the Maersk Gallant in Q1-Q and if comes in on prognosis, will potentially be the deepest and higher pressure and temperature well drilled in Norwegian waters. The well will make use of MPD for the 12¼ and 8½ sections, and will utilise a 20k-psi BOP double during drilling of the 8½ section. Final TD could be up to ±6,200m vertical well. Main challenges will include: very high pressures / temperatures, use of MPD, logistics / running extreme casing string weights for 13⅜ x 14 casing and 9⅞ x 10¾ casing, load handling from main deck to under rig floor due to Texas Deck limitations, and primary well control to avoid any well control incidents. This will be a challenging well and an honour to be a part of. Roles & Responsibilities will be the usual for a Night DSV, including monitoring of the well progress and ensuring the drilling team have the support required to ensure an efficient operation. To monitor the well control at all times when on shift, especially as the deeper, hotter sections are drilled under full HPHT drilling practices. To ensure clear communication between all parties and that all personnel have a full and detailed understanding of the current and next operation. Report writing services for Hess UK Ltd. Apr 2015 Aug 2015 Night DSV Edison AS (Norway). Night Drilling Supervisor on the TO Searcher for single exploration well in southern extremity of Norwegian waters. Contract commencing 24 th June for 45 days. Due to the current climate in the Oil Industry, I accepted a role as night DSV for a short duration exploration well. Personally, I had no issue with this and did not see this as a backwards step in my career. As NDSV, I was responsible and accountable for all night shift drilling operations on the TO Searcher where I had an extremely good relationship with the crews from my previous 2 years on board representing BG Norge. This well was challenging CV Angus McKay Page 1 of 5 December 2015
2 from the perspective of the very shallow water depth the TO Searcher was operating in; this was reaching the limit of the shallow water depth possible with this semi-submersible rig. Feb 2005 Apr 2015 Mar 2013 Apr 2015 BG Group (UKU) & BG Norge (except 1 year with DONG) DSV (Day) BG Norge Knarr Field Development comprising 6 wells & 2 Exploration Wells on 2/4 rotation. The Knarr field development was a subsea template, batch set programme from the Transocean Searcher in 400m of water and 70 miles west of Florø, Norway. The wells were drilled from 2 templates, one dedicated for production wells and the other for water injection. The position of DSV comprised overall supervision, responsibility and accountability for the drilling, completion and flow clean-up of the 3 production wells and the drilling completion and injectivity testing of the 3 water injection wells. The wells were left suspended to await the arrival of the FPSO Petro Jarl Knarr to be brought on-stream. Though not classified as HPHT, the reservoir temperatures were sufficiently high to be near HT classification. As such, all reservoir sections were drilled under a reduced HPHT drilling strategy. The well architecture was conventional, though the production casing string was 9.7/8 due to the slightly higher reservoir pressures than would typically be encountered in wells of this nature and depth. The heavy production casing string, combined with the rig VDL limitations and the use of the ISOtank cuttings containment system made for severe logistical issues during the drilling of the 12.1/4 sections. Combined with a requirement for the 9.7/8 casing to be foam cemented, added a further level of technical and logistical complexity. The foam cement provided its own technical complexity when drilled out due to the well control issues associated with the nitrogen release when drilling out the shoe track. In addition to the 6 development wells, 2 exploration wells were drilled. The first had significant challenges due to a planned geological side track to evaluate a shallower formation from the 20 shoe. This resulted in significant wellbore stability issues to achieve the main target of the well, most noticeable of which was the instability of the cement plug across the 20 shoe when drilling the 17.1/2 section. As this project was based in Norway, there was a prominent requirement on the DSV to lead the safety culture offshore, despite there being both a Transocean Safety Coach and a BG Norge Safety Coach on the rig. Feb 2012 Feb 2013 Senior Drilling Engineer DONG Energy E&P (UK) Ltd 2 deep water wells West of Shetland, Block 208. As SDE, I was responsible for the design of the 2 deep water exploration wells; 700m & 1,200m, within the DONG Energy Well Construction Standards, as well as the UK minimum well integrity legislative requirements, such as the HSE Notifications, and providing information to support the Environmental submission requirements. In conjunction with the assigned C&P personnel, I worked with the approved vendors for all well construction equipment and services supplied for these 2 wells. Once the drillship West Navigator came on sub-let to DONG Energy, I gave full support to the Drilling Superintendent for the duration of the drilling programme. I also worked closely with the vendors to ensure all equipment was delivered in a timely manner in an industry which was struggling with excessive demand on experienced personnel, services and equipment. Aug 2011 Feb 2012 Lead Drilling Engineer BG UK Forties target exploration 5 well sequence planned. As Lead DE I was solely responsible for ensuring the various governmental submissions were submitted whilst remaining cognisant of the time scale the various governmental departments required for their reviews. I was also solely responsible for the well designs and development of the drilling programmes. There were established approved vendors for the drilling department and I coordinated these services to ensure the appropriate equipment was selected and available for the drilling operations. Unfortunately, though the first well was a discovery, this resulted in the Partner s entire drilling budget being expended, and the remainder of the drilling programme was put on hold. Aug 2010 Aug 2011 Lead Drilling Engineer BG UK Jackdaw uhpht appraisal well. CV Angus McKay Page 2 of 5 December 2015
3 The Lead DE position worked extremely closely with the Drilling Superintendent to ensure all the Governmental submissions were managed in a timely manner. I was also fully responsible for reviewing and updating the well specific well control manual to ensure it was fully aligned with the new well data. In addition, with the support of the Subsurface Team s input, I was responsible for writing the drilling programme for the well and reviewing with the Drilling Superintendent and the HPHT Team Lead. I was also fully involved in the well specific well control training for the rig crews to highlight the susceptibility of the well / rig to an influx and the potential dangers of a secondary influx that would no longer be controllable. Once operational, I supported the Drilling Superintendent on a daily basis as well as taking my share of the weekend duty roles. The operations on this particular well proved far more challenging than any other I have been involved with. Aug 2009 Aug 2010 Senior Drilling Engineer BG Norge - Mandarin uhpht exploration well. The Rowan Gorilla 6 was taken into Norway for the first time by BG Group to drill the Mandarin exploration well. My particular involvement was to take the Jackdaw project experiences across to the BG Norge team. This incorporated both the rig equipment and the well construction issues. The equipment aspect focussed on the use of the MPD spread and Coriolis meter as a highly sensitive and accurate flow monitoring system. This was the first time a MPD spread had been used in this manner in Norway and, along with the experience gained during use on the Jackdaw project, was instrumental in the NPD granting permission for BG Norge to drill the Mandarin well. Though the MPD spread was met with some resistance initially by the offshore crews, by the end of the well, the consensus was they would not have been able to maintain the level of control that was exercised, without this tool. My own level of involvement was in the detail of the transfer of the equipment design from the UK side to the Norwegian side and working with the MPD engineering team to follow up any alterations required to maintain compliance with NORSOK. This was primarily ensuring the equipment was correctly installed and certified as per NOSOK D-010, Z-015 and E-001. I was also fully involved in the daily discussion with the Weatherford MPD engineers as to the well control indications observed over the last 24 hours drilling and tripping. Another major equipment focus was the use of the Weatherford BHA for uhpht drilling in the 12.1/4 & 8.1/2 sections. There was a potentially high failure rate for these sections, and together with the equipment specialists from BG UKU, every effort was made to ensure the highest up-time between tool failures. Equipment issues were also followed down to the finest detail such as the FOSVs for the drilling stand and kick single were matched and spares available at all times. Well construction issues were addressed through finger printing (I personally carried out the finger printing prior to drilling the 12.1/4 section) to ensure the most accurate understanding possible of the down hole conditions was understood by the entire offshore and onshore drilling team. Casing running was also a critical well construction issue, especially regards the 9.7/8 x 10.3/4 string which was fully calipered and mobilised in wall thickness order to ensure correct running sequence. The production casing string run was a one-way trip due to the weight and drag when picking up and the DLS severity during drilling and the well cleanliness prior to POOH with the drilling BHA were of paramount importance. As with all HPHT drilling, there were a number of operational challenges in the lower sections of the well and the offshore and onshore team worked together highly effectively as one team to overcome these obstacles. Examples of the challenges and operational optimisations included: Evaluation of EMW required for gas suppression when drilling 8.1/2 reservoir section through use of MPD back pressure. Weighting up of the mud system in stages whilst using MPD back pressure to maintain constant bottom hole pressure on each circulation. Use of MPD system to obtain updated open hole LOT values during drilling. Use of MPD system at full connections to ensure ECD shut in the well and BHP maintained. Use of MPD system for finger printing dummy and full connections to verify flow back and not an influx. Discussion with the offshore and onshore Data Engineers regards the reconstruction of the gas peaks on BU circulations from pumps off events. Following the cumulative gain / loss tracker held by the offshore Data Engineers to ensure as accurate an overall fluid tally was held and understood. CV Angus McKay Page 3 of 5 December 2015
