1 Metropolitan University College scholarship scheme for highly qualified students Metropolitan University College administers a few scholarships financed by the Danish state for highly qualified Non-EU/EEA applicants to the Bachelor's Degree in Global Nutrition & Health. The scholarships include either a full or partly tuition fee waiver and/or a grant towards living expenses. The number of scholarships is very limited; therefore not all very highly qualified students can be awarded tuition fee waivers and/or grants. Scholarships for the 2011 intake For the 2011 intake of the Bachelor's Degree in Global Nutrition and Health the following scholarships are available to be applied for. Two tuition fee waivers and grants totalling DKK ($49.300) per student These scholarships include a full tuition fee waiver for 3½ years of studies ( DKK), and a grant covering living expenses for the 1 st and 2 nd semester (September 2011 June 2012) of DKK pr. month. The scholarship grantee must be capable of paying admission expenses (7.400 DKK) and living expenses from the 3 rd 7 th semester, which by the Danish Agency for International Education is estimated to be DKK per month. One tuition fee waiver and grant totalling DKK ($41.960) These scholarships include tuition fee waiver for semesters 2, 3, 5 and 7 ( DKK) and a grant covering living expenses (5.000 DKK per month) for 20 months. The grant will cover living expenses for semesters 1, 4, 6 and 7; July and August are not covered. The scholarship grantee must pay tuition fees for: 1 st semester ( DKK) 4 th semester ( DKK) 6 th semester ( DKK) The scholarship grantee must also be capable of paying admission expenses (7.400 DKK) and living expenses for semester 2, 3, and 5, which by the Danish Agency for International Education is estimated to be DKK per month. Four tuition fee waivers and grants totalling DKK ($39.960) per student These scholarships include tuition fee waiver for semester 2, 5 and 7 ( DKK) and a grant covering living expenses (5.000 DKK per month) for 25 months. The grant will cover living expenses for semesters 1, 3, 4, 6 and 7; July and August are not covered. The scholarship grantee must pay tuition fees for: 1 st semester ( DKK) 3 rd semester ( DKK) 4 th semester ( DKK) 6 th semester ( DKK) 1

Eligibility To be eligible to apply for tuition fee waivers and/ grants applicants must fulfill one or more of the following conditions: The applicant is a citizen/permanent resident of a country outside the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) The applicant holds - or is eligible to apply for - a temporary study residence permit in Denmark The applicant is not partaking in an established exchange programme or any other programme through which he/she receives financial support to cover tuition fees The applicant has not legally obtained equal rights to Danish citizens Selection criteria To be designated as a highly qualified applicant, the applicant must: Have a grade point average of his/her entry qualification that is above average and which - as a minimum - is in the top third of the grading scale used for the type of examination in question Be highly motivated for the education and have a clear professional goal; this will be assessed partly by the motivational essay and partly through an interview conducted with the applicant Be open-minded and have a global outlook; this will be assessed partly by the motivational essay and partly through an interview conducted with the applicant Possess a large degree of adaptability, be committed and able to endure; this will be assessed partly by the motivational essay and partly through an interview conducted with the applicant Other criteria that may be considered when awarding scholarships are: Relevant experience achieved through work and/or volunteer work Recommendations from two professionals working within the field of nutrition and health Description of how the applicant expects to finance the parts of the tuition fees and living expenses not covered by a scholarship Nationality; according to the Code of Conduct issued by the Rector s Conference, the educational programme should ensure that the number of international students from one particular country does not exceed 20% (Read Code of Conduct: Additionally, the education wishes to admit students from many different parts of the world. This means that even qualified applicants may not be considered for a scholarship if the maximum number of students of that specific nationality has already been admitted. 3 Financial circumstances: Ability to cover living expenses and parts of tuition fees if not awarded full tuition fee waiver 10 Taxation The Danish tax authorities (SKAT) decide about all issues concerning taxation, and Metropolitan University College is obliged to report details about students, who receive scholarships, to the Danish tax authorities in order for them to decide on the student s tax liabilities. The information Metropolitan University College must submit includes: Name CPR number/date of birth Arrival date in Denmark Citizenship Student s address in the home country Country where the student resided prior to coming to Denmark to study Start date of the educational programme Date for first installment of the grant and the expected finish date of the grant Details about the type of scholarship awarded and whether it is intended to cover living expenses Length of educational programme in Denmark Scholarship application procedure In order to apply for a scholarship, the applicant must complete and submit the Metropolitan University College scholarship application form along with their application for admission. The application must include all required documentation pertaining to the applicant s fulfilment of the admissions requirements, as well as a motivational essay and documentation for relevant experience and activities to be taken into consideration in the assessment of the application. The motivational essay should be 1-2 standard A4 pages, and is a very important part of the application. It should explain the applicant s reasons for applying for this particular course, and how his/her educational, professional and personal background and experiences qualify him/her to study on the programme. It is important that the applicant demonstrates the ability to reflect on their own experiences and the ways in which these will contribute to the candidate s success on the programme and in their future career within global nutrition and health. Please note that only scholarship applications from highly qualified students with results above average will be considered. The type of scholarship and the exact amount awarded to each recipient is decided by Metropolitan University College. Deadline: The application deadline is 12 o clock (noon) on 15 March Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline will not be considered. Applicants who are considered for a scholarship will be invited for a personal interview. If the applicant is currently residing in Denmark, the interview will take place face-to-face in Copenhagen. If the applicant is residing abroad, the interview will be conducted via Skype. 3
