Course Title: Portfolio Development Prior Learning and Ongoing Learning Assessment Course Description: **This course will provide an overview of electronic portfolio development of prior learning and/or on-going learning. Portfolios may be used to assess and compare learning with actual course requirements or job requirements. Students will learn to select, categorize and document their achievements and accomplishments for review and assessment related to academic placement and/or employment. They will evaluate knowledge and skills acquired from previous experience or training on the job, in the community, in military service, through travel, or through personal development. Students will demonstrate comprehension and appreciation of life/work experiences and how those relate to prior or on-going experiences and they will demonstrate the ability and skill to develop a comprehensive electronic portfolio. **Computer literacy and college-level writing skills are strongly advised. If the course is land-based, students will be expected to attend regularly and actively participate. Points will be deducted for lack of participation in either course model.

Further develop writing skills Completion of Prior Learning Assessment 9. Develop critical thinking and reasoning skills for problem solving. Completion of Prior Learning Assessment Optional: Students will submit a comprehensive portfolio module and required companion documents for each course for which credit is desired up to six months after completing XXX XXX and submitting an Intent to Submit form signed by the professor and the student. One model for consideration: Assessment and Point Assignment - all of the course requirements must be met in order to successfully complete the course. Preparatory assignments to begin process of personal assessment (1 point each = 5 points)

4 Completion of a comprehensive assessment chart of life, work, and academic achievements (10 points) An outline of course requirements for one course (for which credit is desired) that meets minimum standards contained in course description/outcome statements (10 points) Development of an introduction to the students' portfolio that will provide a narrative designed according to rubric provided (10 points) Weekly postings (responses to questions and follow up conversations on line (15 points - 1 per week during typical semester) E-Portfolio established that meets criteria required according to rubric (template) provided Introduction = 10 Modules = 6 points each Other point assignments based on instruction model used. Grades according to points: 90=100 = A = B = C = D 59 = F Other Important information If you have special needs or a disability, please review the LCCC policies in the LCCC catalog and follow them. If there are special accommodations that you require to be successful in this course, please discuss your situation with the professor. In order for students to receive accommodations for a special need or disability, he/she must register with the Office of Special Needs. Students should either leave cell phones, pagers, palms, or other items that make noise, at home or securely stored out of sight and turned off. These noisemakers are considered intrusive and students need to adhere to this policy. If there is a vibrator selection and the student is able to use that with the phone stored out of sight, that option is permitted. Any student with a serious family, health or work-related situation should notify the professor in advance of that class session. In case of this type of emergency, the phone, pager, etc., may be placed on the professor s desk so that the individual can receive the notice. Students violating this policy will be expected to leave class and to lose participation points for that evening. Do not take the chance of being embarrassed by being asked to leave. Communication in advance with the professor is important when circumstances warrant communication from outside of the classroom. Tape recorders are not allowed, so that students are able to express themselves freely in class discussions.

5 Guests are generally not permitted to attend this class and must be approved in advance. No children are allowed at anytime. Plagiarism will not be tolerated in any written assignments. Do not copy or use the ideas of another person without citing appropriately, using APA standards. Students violating this policy should expect consequences in point/grade assignment and possible disciplinary action by the University. Don t do it!
