2 /2 The annual Investors in People employee sentiment poll reveals major trends across the UK workforce. By tracking the likelihood that people are looking to move jobs, the reasons for doing so, and the most attractive benefits that employers offer, this report helps organisations retain and recruit the best. Our 2015 poll of 2000 employees * reveals a major shift in employee sentiment, presenting a major opportunity for organisations looking to recruit, and a risk to those looking to retain. 5 /5 Headline statistics: Headline statistics: 32% believe the jobs market has improved in the last year year olds are the most optimistic, with 39% seeing an improvement. Business in London, Brighton and Bristol face the biggest staff exoduses, with 66%, 64% and 63% staff considering a move. Who is saying it? The UK paints a varied picture in terms of job satisfaction across the country. Belfast, London and Edinburgh all have over 50% of their workforce looking to move in the next year. Unhappy league table by geography Glasgow Cardiff Edinburgh Newcastle Norwich London % of people who are unhappy in their current roles Men are more likely to change jobs than women, with 59% considering a move compared to 56%. Happy league table by geography Professional services is the most at risk sector with 68% employees thinking about changing jobs, followed by IT & Telecoms (67%) Belfast Manchester Plymouth Brighton Southampton % of people who are happy or very happy in their current roles
6 /6 Why are people looking to move? It s important to understand the key drivers behind employee s motivations. Interestingly, job satisfaction is deemed more important than pay (44 per cent), while feeling valued at work by leadership teams is also rated as one of the highest factors (30 per cent). Since 2014, we have seen some major shifts in happiness, job satisfaction and the view that other jobs might value employee s contribution more. 48% of potential movers now believe they can find better job satisfaction elsewhere and 30% believe they ll be valued more by another employer. Headline statistics: are unhappy in their current 33% roles, up from 24% last year. Poor management is the main reason for unhappiness amongst staff, cited by 46% of employees, followed by pay, not feeling valued and a lack of career progression.
