BENEFITS SINGLE STOP VETERANS: A network of sites offering veterans access to social services. Counselors work with veterans to determine which benefits they are eligible for in as little as 15 minutes, and then guide them through the application process and connect them to other on-site services. Veterans learn a trade at state-of-the-art training facilities. The Center identifies, screens and places veterans seeking work in local jobs such as entry-level industrial, warehouse and customer service positions. 2 Brooklyn Workforce Innovations B.W.I. operates four job training programs that prepares veterans for careers in commercial driving, cabling, carpentry and television/film production. The programs also leverage strong relationships with local employers to target salaried jobs with generous benefits packages. Tammy Burgess ext Degraw St, Brooklyn, NY Workforce 1 Veterans Career Center: The Center offers intensive career services and job placement opportunities to veterans and their spouses. It work with employers who are committed to hiring veterans. As a result, the Center is connecting more veterans to stable and meaningful employment across the city. The New York City Veterans Business Alliance: A partnership between three programs that focuses on assisting veterans enter into small business and entrepreneurship. Acción: Provides loans and financial advisory services to Veterans looking to launch/expand a small business. School of Medicine s Military Veteran Clinic: Works with family members of veterans who are at a V.A. hospital to address the mental health needs of the families, especially spouses and children. 3 HOUSING Veteran Outreach and Housing Placement Initiative: Started by the Department of Homeless Services in partnership with the Bowery Residents Committee, Common Ground and Goddard Riverside Community Center, the project does outreach to connect homeless veterans to benefits and housing. Provides supportive housing to homeless New Yorkers, including veterans. The Homeward Bound program is designed to work with veterans who are ready to transition to independent living by connecting these veterans to jobs and affordable housing. George Mills x Grand Concourse Bronx, NY The Doe Fund The Doe Fund operates a veterans-only shelter in collaboration with the V.A. and Department for Homeless Services in Brooklyn. Veteran Program participants may also take part in Ready, Willing & Able, our paid transitional work program for homeless and formerly incarcerated individuals. Melvyn Romero Porter Avenue, Brooklyn, NY mromero@doe.org Department of Homeless Services (DHS): Operates a shelter system that tailors services toward unique populations of clients, including single adults, families with children, adult families and veterans. LEGAL Association of the Bar of the City of New York (ABCNY): In collaboration with hundreds of pro bono lawyers from over 60 major New York law firms, the City Bar operates Veteran Assistance Project (VAP), helping over 130 veterans claim much-needed veterans disability payments. Their services include direct representation, case consultation, advocacy, community education, training, financial counseling and impact litigation. S.B.L.S. staffs a hotline for student loan assistance for veterans, and NEDLAP offers workshops for veterans and veterans' groups on student loan debt issues. 5 National Resource Directory:* A directory with information about thousands of national and local programs that support recovery, rehabilitation and community reintegration. They maintain the Veterans Job Bank, a database for veterans that provides quick and easy access to thousands of public and private-sector job openings. Joining Forces:* A national initiative to engage all sectors of society to give service members and their families the opportunities and support they have earned. The initiative highlights issues that are of special importance to the military, including the areas of employment, education and wellness.

6 Local Veterans Centers:* Under the auspices of the Department of Veterans Affairs, local Vet Centers have therapists and clinicians that provide a broad range of counseling and referral services to eligible veterans and their families in order to help them make a satisfying post-war readjustment to civilian life.
