RATIONALE The Guidance and Counseling personnel believe that each high school student has the potential to develop attitudes and to change his or her behavior to become more self-directed. recognize that students need to plan to achieve identified goals. This planning necessarily involves, identifying goals, learning and applying decision making skills, effective communication skills, and problem solving skills. will assist senior-level students in developing these competencies. work with all students, parents, teachers, businesses, organizations, and other significant sectors of the community. As stipulated in the Missouri Model Guidance, Waynesville High School counselors attempt to spend 20% of time for classroom instruction. Structured guidance activities and support are provided for large and small group settings. Consultation services for parents, teachers, and administrators concerning student behavior and academic progress are provided. Individual planning is provided to assist every student in academic, personal, and social circumstances. Individual, small-group, personal and crisis counseling are available to all students. COURSE DESCRIPTION Guidance counseling consists of structured developmental experiences presented through classroom and group activities. The purpose of the guidance curriculum is to facilitate students normal growth and development, to promote positive peer relationships, to promote academic achievement and positive mental health, and to assist students in acquiring and using life career skills. MOST IMPORTANT LEARNER OUTCOMES Students will be able to: 1. Understand their role in their own personal and social development 2. Understand and apply skills for educational achievement 3. Understand and develop their own educational plan for high school and beyond 4. Apply career exploration and planning skills to achieve life career goals
