Waseda University is one of the oldest universities in Japan which was established in 1882, and the School of Science and Engineering was established in 1909 that is also one of the oldest schools of science and engineering in Japan. Since its foundation, we have fostered top level engineers, company executives, scholars, specialists actively involved in the front lines of the community. Department of Computer Science and Communications Engineering is newly established in April, 2014 in order to study the cutting edge of technologies to solve the global issues of human beings and to make the smart society by ICT technologies. Our department has developed world class research and education programs under that you can learn and study lots of ICT in English. All the professors in the department actively work in many different aspects of ICT and conduct the world top level research projects under the collaboration of industries. Features of University In 1882, Tokyo Senmon Gakko (the precursor college of Waseda University) was founded by Shigenobu Okuma. In 1902, it was renamed "Waseda University". In 1920 it was chartered under the newly enacted University Act. Features of Graduate School The Graduate School of Fundamental Science and Engineering focuses on areas related to information, machines, electronics, materials, and energy on the foundation of mathematics. The School consists of the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics, the Department of Computer Science and Communications Engineering, the Department of Applied Mechanics, the Department of Electronic and Physical Systems, and the Department of Intermedia Art and Science. The School aims to educate individuals who have ability to think deeply and imaginatively about modern science and technology, as well as the fundamental principles which they are based upon. 4. Message from PEACE participants To me, coming to Japan was a dream and joining Waseda University made my academic life wonderful by learning various fields of updated technology from a world class university and professors although there is a difference between Afghanistan and Japan education systems. 4
