2 PSYCHOLOGY The mind works in mysterious ways. With a psychology degree from Clarke, you ll be prepared to enter the exciting field of analyzing, evaluating, predicting and changing human thought and behavior. Clarke s secret to success is a nice balance of clinical psychology, social psychology and cognitive psychology. Faculty members bring a wealth of research, clinical and life experience to the classroom and present it in exciting ways. Clarke s psychology department is committed to maintaining a rigorous academic curriculum designed to emphasize the development of analytic and expressive skills that are the basis of investigation, evaluation and communication in the field. THE CLARKE ADVANTAGE At Clarke, many students choose an undergraduate major in psychology while planning to continue into Clarke s Doctorate of Physical Therapy program. Psychology of Women has achieved General Education Program diversity approval. As the experiential component for Psychology of Women, students volunteer for a minimum of six hours at organizations that serve women in need. Students in Positive Psychology participate in Clarke s Into the Streets experience. The Psychology Club takes part in a host of exciting activities. A Clarke psychology degree provides graduates with the necessary groundwork for graduate and professional programs in psychology, medicine, law, social work and ministry. Psychology students can take advantage of the sensation and perception lab, which will be part of the new state-of-the-art food science lab. The study found that social psychological tendencies like impression management and social comparison are alive and well on Facebook. 3 SOCIAL WORK As a multidisciplinary profession, social work requires understanding in psychology, sociology, biology and spirituality. Students learn theory, research, and practice skills from a diverse group of experienced faculty members. This background serves as a foundation for the many fields of professional social work. Classroom time is fast-paced and the work is rigorous. Students create close relationships within their cohorts as they study and learn together. Faculty are on hand to guide students through their learning process. As a professional program, the academic work culminates in a 440-hour field practicum with an area agency. Clarke students graduate as competent professionals ready to work with colleagues and clients in a range of settings. The religious studies program is aligned with the USCCB national certification standards in lay ministry and prepares students for work in parish ministries, faith-based organizations and educational institutions, social justice agencies and charities. SOCIAL WORK AND FAITH-BASED SERVICE TRACK Do you feel called to be a social worker in a faith-based or non-profit setting? Combine religious studies with social work. SPIRITUALITY AND LEADERSHIP TRACK Students who desire to deepen their faith or explore the religious dimensions of their future professions can pursue the Spirituality and Leadership Track. With the help of a mentor, students integrate Religious Studies coursework into another academic major or professional program around questions of faith, spirituality and vocation. This 15 credit track is recognized on a student's university transcript.

5 OUR ALUMNI PSYCHOLOGY EMILY DUEHR Psychology/English 01 After graduation, Emily completed the Ph.D. program in Industrial-Organizational Psychology at the University of Minnesota in She joined Javelin HR Solutions in 2011, where she is the director of Assessment Development. Her primary role is to lead the development and validation of online tests and live simulations to assess core competencies in pharmaceutical representatives and their managers. A small school atmosphere facilitated strong relationships with my professors. This benefited my career during graduate school because I was comfortable actively participating in small group discussions, which mirrored the format of many graduate courses. I was able to think critically and express my opinion during discussions, which has carried over to my consulting work as well. SOCIAL WORK REGINA KING Social Work 04 After earning a master s in social work, Regina worked at Thresholds, the largest community mental health service provider in Chicago. She served adults with severe and chronic mental health symptoms. Since April 2014, she has been an outpatient therapist at Illinois Masonic Behavioral Health Services. One of the most powerful aspects of Clarke is the available opportunities to be had to develop intellectually as well as professionally. While there, I held paid positions as a social justice intern for two years; the Social Work and Sociology Department intern for four years; I was the president of the Social Work Club; led a Social Scriptures group; and helped lead Antioch retreats. I had leadership and professional development opportunities I would have never had at a larger school. RELIGIOUS STUDIES ERIN DALY Religious Studies 13 Erin joined the staff at the Bishop Hodges Pastoral Center in Huttonsville, W.Va., as a missionary in The Bishop Hodges Pastoral Center is a retreat center and camp facility that hosts a variety of programs, including camps, retreats and youth rallies. Erin helps facilitate these programs and travels around the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to run other youth ministry programming. My degree in religious studies fed my curiosity about God and my Catholic faith. Through it I learned a lot about not just my faith, but the spiritual quest and the longing for Truth that lies in every human heart. My work at Bishop Hodges allows me to initiate a spark of that same curiosity in the young people I encounter. I definitely owe much of my love of diving into my faith to my time at Clarke.

The program of study draws upon the strengths of various disciplines and emphasizes an understanding of recent history, contemporary social/political problems and ethical values. POLITICAL SCIENCE The study of political science at Clarke challenges students to analyze the political situation in the United States and in countries all over the world. You will investigate current political, economic and social developments in Europe, Africa, the Middle East and other hot spots. SOCIOLOGY Clarke sociology minors recognize the strong connection between studying sociology and social justice. And they see the opportunity to focus on truly understanding social issues related to race, class and gender. With this minor, you ll combine learning about these core social issues while exploring other fascinating aspects of human society like education, war, religion and health all in an effort to accurately describe and explain social interactions or behaviors.
