3 IMS OF THE OUMENT The aims of this document are to: define the structure of the programme(s); specify the programme award titles; identify programme and level learning outcomes; articulate the regulations governing the awards defined within the document. IMS OF THE PROGRMME(S) This programme aims to develop critically informed, agile and resourceful graduates, who: have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of mobile app development by current scholarship and research, including a critical awareness of current issues and developments in mobile apps; have the ability to deal with complex issues in mobile app development, make sound judgements in the absence of complete data, and communicate their conclusions clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences; can demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems in mobile app, and act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at a professional or equivalent level; are able to advance their knowledge and understanding, and to develop new skills to a high level. LIGNMENT WITH THE UNIVERSITY S STRTEGI PLN Fusion The programme has been developed according to the recommended features of a Fusion postgraduate taught programme. n overview of example features which are aligned with the recommended features is as follows: ross Faculty: interdisciplinary and innovative o This Fusion Postgraduate Taught Project brings together a cross-faculty collaborative work between Faculty of Science and Technology and Faculty of Media and ommunications to develop and deliver an innovative MSc in Mobile pp evelopment. 4 o The postgraduate programme will help to meet the demands of many organisations both local, nationally as well as internationally that develop and use mobile apps heavily. o The oston onsulting Group reports that Mobile Technology has emerged as the new engine of global growth that has a $3.3 Trillion impact in 04 and has created directly million jobs and countless more indirectly worldwide. o The MSc programme in Mobile pp evelopment allows industry professionals and new graduates to develop skills at postgraduate level that is highly sought after in the mobile industry. o Students have opportunity to undertake placement. Engaging in International / Global connections: o The contents of the programme are international/global by nature and are also suitable for international students regardless of their countries of origin. Making use of the opportunity the new building offers: o Learning and teaching will be conducted in the new Fusion building. U08 This has been designed to develop the graduate attributes according to Vision and Values U08 and the Strategic Plan 0-8. n overview of example attributes that is as follows: S Education including Technology Enhanced Learning: e.g. lended teaching and learning approach which heavily utilises the use of VLE, enhanced skill-based learning from the new laboratories, equipment and services invested in the new Fusion building will improve technology learning, address the skills gap in mobile app development and deliver a better student experience. Research Informed Education: the programme is informed by the outputs on previous and existing research conducted by the academics involved in the programme. Other curriculum related attributes considered include student engagement, innovation, globalisation, personal development etc. The programme has been developed according to the key features of the ommon cademic Structure (S). Programme enrolment aligns with one of the two University enrolment/induction dates (autumn and spring). Full-time units are delivered and assessed within a semester. redit structure for programmes and units e.g. 0 credit units with 00 study hours. The programme includes intermediate awards to facilitate exit points. The personal research element i.e. the MSc dissertation or project is allocated a minimum of 60 credits at Level 7. LERNING HOURS N SSESSMENT ournemouth University taught programmes are composed of units of study, which are assigned a credit value indicating the amount of learning undertaken. The minimum credit value of a unit is normally 0 credits, above which credit values normally increase at 0-point intervals. 0 credits is the equivalent of 00 study hours required of the student, including lectures, seminars, assessment ournemouth University 05 4

5 and independent study. 0 University credits are equivalent to 0 European redit Transfer System (ETS) credits. s a general rule, time devoted to assessment should normally represent approximately 5% of the student learning time for a unit (i.e. 50 hours for a 0-credit unit), leaving the rest for specific programme-related activities, including lectures, seminars, preparatory work, practical activities, reading, critical reflection and independent learning. Of the time devoted to assessment, every 0 hours of student effort is equivalent to approximately,000 words of coursework or hour of examination. Therefore, as a guideline, a 0-credit unit would normally require the equivalent of approximately 5,000 words in total (e.g. a,000-word written coursework and a 3-hour unseen examination). 8 MISSION REGULTIONS The programme requires the University s entry requirements for postgraduate taught courses ( In addition, the minimum qualification for entry to this programme is a second class degree in a creative technology, computing, information technology, physics, electronics and other related subjects. Entry to a continuing professional development (P) unit does not require a degree qualification but relevant recent experience in industries such as mobile development, business or computing. Each applicant will be assessed on a case by case basis by the Programme Leader to ensure that the applicant has suitable experience and knowledge for the unit.
