1 MANSFIELD ISD & TARRANT COUNTY COLLEGE (TCC) Dual Credit/Early High School Enrollment GENERAL INFORMATION Mansfield Independent School District, in conjunction with the Tarrant County College Southeast Campus, offers many courses for dual credit to MISD juniors and seniors. Students will receive high school and college credit for TCC courses taken and passed through the MISD. To receive weighted credit for a TCC course, a student must be enrolled in the TCC course and earn a grade of 70 or higher in the course. All rules and regulations of the MISD apply in conjunction with these courses. These include but are not limited to absences and grades. Since the student is being given early enrollment at TCC for these courses, the student must be enrolled in a MISD high school throughout the course, or he/she will be dropped from TCC. MISD students must have the following to be enrolled in TCC courses: 80+ overall grade average, a minimum of 12 credits, and satisfactory scores on the TSI. Students will attend TCC classes on their home campus if the course is available there. If a student elects to take a course where travel is required, the student will be responsible for providing their own means of transportation. Pending continued availability of funding, students may only be expected to pay $50 per course/per semester and applicable fees.* Fees include but are not limited to the TSI re-test. Dual credit students may take a maximum of 2 dual credit courses per long semester and a maximum of 2 dual credit courses during the summer sessions. Once the appropriate early high school enrollment paperwork has been distributed by the MISD high schools, it is the responsibility of the student to apply for early enrollment, register for courses, and pay the MISD for his/her tuition. There are no refunds issued by the MISD for dual credit courses. *Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. Please see your high school counselor for details. TSI Information For information on the TSI, please contact your high school counselor. Testing is scheduled in advance and/or by appointment only with a Pre-Assessment Activity to be completed prior to the testing session. TSI Passing Scores: Reading (351+) Writing/Essay (5+) or Essay (4) and Multiple Choice (363+) Math (350+) GRADING AND ATTENDANCE INFORMATION Although students register for TCC courses with the assistance of their high schools, the students will have to follow TCC procedures for requesting transcripts of college credit. Students must remember that TCC courses will become part of their permanent college record. Students will not be allowed to drop a TCC course during a term and cannot enroll into that same course at their MISD high school during the term they are enrolled at TCC. The exception could be a student who has been sent to the alternative high school campus where there is the possibility of being withdrawn from TCC and placed into a regular high school course. The MISD reserves the right to remove students from TCC courses if they have not met their financial obligations regarding TCC tuition and/or fees. Students are treated as college students by the TCC faculty. The college professors do not call home if the student is not turning in work. TCC grades may be accessed by the student through the TCC Campus Cruiser online grading system. It is the student s responsibility to contact his/her TCC professor(s) in the event of an absence. This contact needs to be made prior to the absence unless the absence is due to a sudden illness. Students who attend TCC courses must be responsible and dependable. Senior students who fail a spring course at TCC (English, Government, Economics or other course required for graduation) will not be able to graduate and will have to repeat the course in summer school. Students will remain on the MISD calendar. Therefore, in order to make up for MISD holidays which are not TCC holidays, students may be required on occasion to attend TCC courses on Fridays or certain MISD holidays (bad weather make-up days, etc.). Students should be given prior notice by their TCC professor(s). In the spring semester, the MISD and TCC spring breaks may fall on two different weeks, so as stated previously, there may be Fridays or certain MISD holidays on which TCC classes have been scheduled for this purpose. Students should be given prior notice by their TCC professor(s). To receive weighted credit for a Tarrant County College dual credit course, students must be enrolled in the course and earn a grade of 70 or higher in the course. Revised Spring 2014 Page 1 of 10
