Courses will not run if there are insufficient numbers to form a class The Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) is calculated on 10 Board Developed Units. Category A courses are unrestricted for inclusion in the calculation of the ATAR. Only 2 units of Category B courses can be used to gain a ATAR. Students who do not need a ATAR must study at least 6 units of Board Developed courses plus another 6 units including any other Board Developed Course, Course, Content Endorsed or Board Endorsed Course. All students must include at least 2 units of English. Extension students must select English Advanced. Extension students will be allowed to study 13 or more units. You cannot enrol at a Saturday School of Community Languages or Open High School if your language is being taught at GRC Oatley. You cannot choose to do a TVET Course at another college if the course is being taught at GRC Oatley. Automotive and Electrotechnology will be taught at St George. Nursing - Health Services Assistance will require additional selection criteria. No other science course may be selected with Senior Science. Option to change to Senior Science in Year 12 exists. General Mathematics students cannot select Extension courses. No code is required on application form. This course will continue in Year 12 if sufficient numbers exist to form a class. 12. Students cannot choose both Music Course 1 and Music Course 2. Students cannot choose both VET Hospitality Kitchen Operations and VET Hospitality Food and Beverage. 5 Eligibility determination Beginners language courses in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek and Spanish Information and Application Form In order to enter a Stage 6 Beginners Language course, students must be determined eligible (see Eligibility criteria, below). Students should apply to their school principal for an eligibility determination, if possible during Term 3 of Year 10. Applying for eligibility determination Students applying for an eligibility determination must: complete the Application for Eligibility Determination, including the Statutory Declaration provide relevant additional documentation if required by the principal provide relevant additional documentation that the student wishes to include. False, inaccurate or incomplete information could place at risk a student s eligibility for the Higher School Certificate. Eligibility criteria The eligibility criteria for Beginners Languages courses are as follows. Students have had no more than 100 hours study of the language at the secondary level (or equivalent). Students have little or no previous knowledge of the language. For exchange students, a significant in-country experience (involving experiences such as homestay and attendance at school) of more than three months renders a student ineligible. Note: for the purpose of determining eligibility: Speakers of dialects and variants of a language are considered to be speakers of the standard language. Speakers of Indonesian and speakers of Malay are considered to be speakers of both languages. Determining eligibility Eligibility to undertake a Beginners Language course is determined by the principal of the school delivering the course. This may be the student s home school, the Saturday School of Community Languages, the Open High School, a Distance Education Centre or. 6 To be deemed eligible for a course, a student must meet all of the eligibility criteria for that course at the time of entry to the course. The principal s eligibility determination should, where possible, be provided to the student in writing at least 10 school weeks prior to the commencement of delivery of the course. If the student believes that the principal s determination has not been made in accordance with the course eligibility criteria, they can seek a review of the determination initially from the principal and subsequently from the Board of Studies. Principals should inform students of the procedure for requesting a review and provide students with a Review of Eligibility Determination form on request. 14 Major Works And Projects A number of HSC courses require projects, major works and performances that are to be submitted prior to the HSC written examination period. These may be marked internally by the school or externally by the Board of Studies. We recommend you study a maximum of two courses due to the demands on your time in Year 12. Note: It is important to note that schools will set a school submission date earlier, than for submission to the Board. The reason for this is that there are significant procedures to be followed before submission to the Board of Studies. Courses offered at Oatley Senior Campus that require an earlier examination or submission of work include: Course Aboriginal Studies Major Project The Major Project is worth 40% of the internal assessment. Students should begin their Major Project in the first term of their HSC year (Term 4, Year 11) and they should be completed by the end of the second term of their HSC year. Parents may refer to the Stage 6 Aboriginal Studies syllabus Course Requirements for more information about the major project and support document. Dance Core and Major Study practical examination All practical examinations are held in Term 3, usually in August. The components examined are: core and major study performance, core and major study composition and major study dance and technology. Core and Major Study Appreciation components are examined in the main HSC examination period. Design and Technology Major Design Project (MDP) Students develop an MDP, which they may start at the beginning of their HSC course. The MDP contributes 60% of the HSC Assessment component and is assessed by the Board of Studies. Parents may refer to the Stage 6 Design and Technology syllabus HSC External Examination Specifications for more information about the MDP. Drama Practical examination All students have a practical examination commencing in August or September for Group Performance. During this time individual project performance is also examined. Submitted projects are due around this time as well. Refer to the Board of Studies for the latest information on dates for HSC examinations. English Extension 2 Major Work English Extension 2 (only completed in the HSC year) requires a Major Work which is detailed in the Major Work Module of the English syllabus Components of the internal assessment tasks are: a proposal, viva voce and a report. The Major Work product is assessed externally. A Major Work Journal must also be submitted with the Major Work. Refer to the Board of Studies for the submission date. Industrial Technology Major Project Students develop a Major Project which they may start at the beginning of their HSC Course. 15 Course Languages Speaking and Listening examinations Most HSC examinations for languages include speaking and listening components as part of the external statewide examinations. All speaking examinations are held prior to the main HSC examination period, usually at the end of Term 3. Languages: Background speakers There is no external statewide speaking examination. The listening examination is part of the written examination and is held in the main HSC examination period. The Board of Studies has further information. Music 1, Music 2, Music extension Practical examinations & submitted works Practical examinations for all three music courses are held towards the end of Term 3. In addition, submitted works (compositions and musicology essays) are due before the end of Term 3. The Board of Studies has information on submission dates. Society and Culture Personal Interest Project (PIP) The Personal Interest Project (PIP) is worth 30% of the total HSC course mark. It is externally assessed and it is submitted to the Board of Studies in Term 3. The process of the project may be included in the school s internal assessment program. Parents may refer to the Stage 6 Society and Culture Syllabus for more information about the project. Textiles and Design Major Textiles Project (MTP) Students develop a Major Textiles Project which they may start at the beginning of their HSC course. The Major Project contributes 50% of the HSC Assessment component and is assessed by the Board of Studies. Visual Arts Artmaking component: Body of Work Students are required to submit a body of work in one or more of the expressive forms (drawing, painting, printmaking, graphic design, photography, digital media, sculpture, ceramics, textile and fibre, designed objects and environments, film, video, digital animation, documented forms, performance works and interactives). The body of the work is worth 50% of the total HSC Course mark. It is externally assessed and it is submitted to the Board of Studies by early September. Refer to the Board of Studies for further information on submission dates. The development of the body of work is included in the school s internal assessment program.
