Please submit the Vet Tech Application and all materials, including Official Transcripts, in one envelope package, to the Vet Tech Department Please review ALL information given at BRCC VET Tech webpages: Application materials and instructions can be found on these webpages General Education Classes Courses that MUST be completed prior to application (or currently enrolled, with admission contingent on successful completion): ENG 111 English Composition I 3 credits CHM 110 or CHM 101 Survey of Chemistry or General Chemistry I 3 or 4 credits MTE 1-5 Math Essential modules 1 credit per module (VPT for Math is required to determine current Math skills; must satisfy MTE 1-5 on VPT) * Other Required General Education Courses: PSY 105 (no substitute) Psychology of Personal Adjustment 3 credits Humanities/Fine Arts Elective Refer to the list of available choices (see below) 3 credits Social/Behavioral Science Refer to the list of available choices (see below) 3 credits SDV 100/107 College Success Skills or Career Education 1 credit BIO 101 (4 credits) is required if you have not had a lab Biology in High School with a grade of at least a C *VPT tested MTE 1-5 successfully or must have SAT score of 520 for math or ACT score of 22 for math or have successfully passed a college level math course with a grade of C within the past 2 years. If you have completed a college level Math class or have test scores that are 2 or more years ago, you must to take the placement test in order to demonstrate proficiency. Program Admission Requirements: 1) High school diploma or equivalent 2) Completion of high school or college Biology, including a lab, with a grade of C or better 3) Completion of ON-LINE Blue Ridge Community College Application (this includes Distance Education students) 4) Completion of the Veterinary Technology Program Application 5) Completion ENG 111 and CHM 110 program requirements prior to application (applicants may be currently enrolled in these courses with admission being contingent upon successful completion of these courses). 6) Demonstrated math proficiency in MTE 1-5 prior to Vet Tech Application deadline (see Ways to Show Proficiency at 7) ALL Official Transcripts from High School and Colleges/Universities attended Students should include a Transcript Evaluation Request Form if they have taken appropriate general education classes at other VCCS colleges or other accredited colleges/universities. This form can be obtained at this link: 8) Completion of 35 hours of observation of a Licensed Veterinary Technician in a Veterinary Hospital within the last calendar year, including completion of the Observation Form 9) Completion of Reference Form from a Veterinarian or Veterinary Technician 10) Upon request of the Program, completion of the Veterinary Technology Aptitude Test and an interview with Program Staff Notification of all applicants will occur by the end of April.

3 P a g e 3 Veterinary Technology Individuals interested in pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology have two program options: the tw o year, full-time, on-campus program at BRCC's Weyers Cave location or the three year, part-time, distance education program transmitted through compressed video to the Virginia Beach campus of Tidewater Community College, the Midlothian Campus of John Tyler Community College, Germanna Community College (currently the Locust Grove campus outside of Fredericksburg) and to Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke. Both programs are accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and have competitive admissions. Upon completion of either program, students are eligible to take the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and apply for a licens e to practice as a veterinary technician. Possible careers for graduates include: technician in a veterinary hospital, animal shelter, wildlife center, zoo, or with the military. Other opportunities include diagnostic/research laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, veterinary supply sales, livestock managers or veterinary education. Veterinary Technology On-Campus (BRCC) Program Award: Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology Length: Five semesters total, includes one summer (two year program) A coordinated externship, required during the summer between the first and second year, includes 350 hours of work in a veterinary hospital. Students must pass each VET-prefix course in the Veterinary Technology curriculum in order to continue in the program. A minimum GPA of 2.0 in VET-prefix courses, in addition to a 2.0 curricular GPA, is required for graduation. The program is selective and all application materials are due the final business day of January for fall enrollment of the s ame year. Applicants are screened and awarded points in the following categories: academic credentials, veterinary/animal experience, awareness of the profession, quality of recommendation and aptitude test scores. Notification of all applicants will occur by the end of April. Veterinary Technology Distance Education Program Germanna Fall 2016 Award: Associate of Applied Science Degree in Veterinary Technology Length: Nine semesters total, includes three summers (three year program) This program is designed for those students who cannot relocate for the on-campus program at the Weyers Cave location. It is designed for those individuals currently working in practices as veterinary assistants. Classes meet twice weekly at the distance education site and students must come to the BRCC campus three times per semester f or laboratories. A coordinated externship, required during the summer between the second and third year, includes 350 hours of work in a veterinary hospital. Students must pass each VET-prefix course in the Veterinary Technology curriculum in order to continue in the program. Applicants to the distance education program must be employed at least 20 hours per week by a veterinarian who is willing to serve as their official mentor and allow them to perform tasks taught in courses.
