3 Introduction Xperia SmartTags is a suite of NFC (Near Field Communication) tags that can activate different SmartTag profiles on your phone. Each tag is pre-configured with a ready-to-go SmartTag profile. When you swipe one of the tags with your phone, the SmartTag profile associated with the tag is activated. For example, if you swipe the Car tag, the Bluetooth function gets turned on and the Navigation application is launched. You can change the actions associated with a SmartTag profile and set up different SmartTag profiles to suit your various needs. For example, you can remove Bluetooth from your Car profile and change the sound mode. By setting up SmartTag profiles for different situations, you don t need to turn on the associated functions manually every time. Compatibility information for your Xperia SmartTags accessory is available at Do not place the tags on or stick them to metal surfaces in order to avoid damaging the magnetic chips inside the tags. It is recommended to use the dual adhesive stickers supplied with your Xperia SmartTags. 3

4 Getting started Turning on the NFC function To get started, you must first turn on the NFC function in your phone so that the phone can recognise NFC tags. To turn on the NFC function 1 From your Home screen, tap. 2 Find and tap Settings > Wireless controls. 3 Mark the NFC checkbox. NFC detection area The location of the NFC detection area in a phone can vary depending on the phone. You can swipe an NFC tag against the back of your phone to detect where the NFC detector is located. For more information, refer to the User guide of your phone. Setting up If you have an Xperia phone which supports NFC, the Xperia SmartTags application may already be installed under the LiveWare manager application. If you do not have the LiveWare manager application and the Xperia SmartTags application installed, you need to download the LiveWare manager application from Android Market and install it on your phone. Once it's installed, you can then download the Xperia SmartTags application. Before downloading applications from Android Market, make sure you have an Internet connection and a Google account. You may also need to have a memory card inserted in your phone. Installing LiveWare manager You can download LiveWare manager from Android Market. If your phone already has LiveWare manager installed, make sure you have the latest version. To install LiveWare manager on your phone 1 From your phone's main application screen, find and tap Market. 2 Tap to display the search field, then type LiveWare. 3 Tap to launch a search on Android Market. 4 Select LiveWare manager in the result list, then follow the instructions to install the application on your phone. Installing the Xperia SmartTags application for LiveWare manager You can download the Xperia SmartTags application for LiveWare manager from Android Market. To install the Xperia SmartTags application 1 From your phone's main application screen, find and tap Market. 2 Tap to display the search field, then type Xperia SmartTags. 3 Tap to launch a search on Android Market. 4 Select Xperia SmartTags in the result list, then follow the instructions to install the application on your phone. You can add the Xperia SmartTags widget to your phone s Home screen. 4

5 Using the Xperia SmartTags widget You can add the Xperia SmartTags widget to your phone s Home screen. In this widget, you can easily see the colour and the name of the last activated tag, check whether the NFC function is turned on or not, and access the SmartTags application directly. You can also revert to your most commonly used SmartTag profile by tapping in the right corner of the widget. For the Xperia SmartTags widget to work properly, you must have the LiveWare manager and the Xperia SmartTags applications installed on the phone. To add the Xperia SmartTags widget 1 To open the options menu, touch and hold any part of your phone s Home screen. 2 Tap Widgets > Xperia SmartTags. If some of the SmartTags described above are not included with the phone, you may purchase them separately. Setting up a SmartTag Before you can start using SmartTags, you must first set up each tag to work with your phone. After you set up the tags, your phone can recognise them and activate the SmartTag profile associated with each tag. To scan a SmartTag for the first time NFC 1 Make sure that your phone has the NFC function turned on and that the phone screen is active. 2 Place your phone over the SmartTag so that the phone's NFC detection area touches the tag. Your phone vibrates and a popup window opens. 3 Tap OK. Your tag is saved in LiveWare manager as a SmartTag. 4 Place your phone over the SmartTag again so that the phone's NFC detection area touches the tag. A popup window shows which actions have been activated. If the Xperia SmartTags widget is installed on your phone, the colour and name of the activated tag are displayed when you swipe the tag. Personalising your Xperia SmartTags You can change the behavior of your tags by adding or removing the actions associated with them. For example, you can make a tag launch your favourite applications and music, display the latest news direct on your phone screen, and adapt the volume level to your surroundings. You can add up to 10 triggers, or actions, for each tag. 7

8 The Xperia SmartTags application also features a virtual tag called Favourite actions. This tag, indicated by a star icon, also comes with a pre-configured SmartTag profile which you can adjust. To change the actions associated with a SmartTag 1 From your phone's main application screen, find and tap LiveWare manager. 2 Find and tap Xperia SmartTags > Xperia SmartTags. 3 Tap the tag that you want to edit. 4 To add an action, tap Add action and select the desired action. 5 To delete an action, tap next to the action that you want to delete. To change the status of existing actions 1 From your phone's main application screen, find and tap LiveWare manager. 2 Find and tap Xperia SmartTags > Xperia SmartTags. 3 Tap the tag that you want to edit. 4 Tap the action that you want to edit, and select an option. You can also open the Xperia SmartTags application by tapping the Xperia SmartTags widget on the Home screen. To edit the favourite actions 1 From your phone's main application screen, find and tap LiveWare manager. 2 Find and tap Xperia SmartTags > Xperia SmartTags. 3 Tap Favorite actions. This function is not tag dependent. In the Xperia SmartTags widget, you can also tap the star icon to activate the actions you've set up under Favorite actions. 8
