3 FOREWORD The 2010 Census of Population and Housing of the Cayman Islands taken on the 10 th October 2010 or the date locally known as 10, 10, 10 collected the socio-economic, demographic, and housing data of all resident people in the Cayman Islands. The information along with new subject areas such as disability and illness gives a comprehensive picture of the country s population, its changing trends and structure. Our people are the single most significant economic asset. As your Premier, I have often stressed the need to give importance to our population trends in our planning initiatives and policy debates. It therefore gives me great pleasure to have the results of the 2010 Census publicized and presented in this report. The 2010 Census data serves as a critical planning tool. It allows the country to benchmark our performance as a society and measure how we meet the aspirations of its people as identified in our national Vision 2008 exercise. It is an invaluable basis of dialogue among government, private sector and the wider civil society: we need to address the challenges posed by the data in this report. I therefore urge us all to take time and read this for evidence-based policy debate and design; decision-making at every level of society; investment and business transactions; and for all other positive purposes for the good of our beloved country. Everyone Counts was the adopted 2010 Census theme, and indeed Everyone Counts as we strive to deliver the economic prosperity that this country long enjoyed and as we seek to secure social harmony for the present and future generations.
