3 Introduction Introduction Welcome to Microcat LIVE! This guide is designed to assist new users to learn Microcat LIVE. The selection of parts within Microcat LIVE is performed using a three-step model: 1. Identify the vehicle. 2. Select parts. 3. Finalise the order. This guide is divided into the following sections: Getting started Step 1 - Identify vehicle Step 2 - Select parts Step 3 - Finalise order Each section includes: Learning outcomes Step by step instructions Visual prompts Notes for additional information This is an example note that is used to display additional information throughout this guide. 4 Getting started Getting started In this section you will learn how to: Start Microcat LIVE Log on to Microcat LIVE Change the catalogue data source Start Microcat LIVE The first time you launch Microcat LIVE the Welcome window will be displayed, providing options for start up. Select from the following links: Create/Import Users: To access the User Administration window for setting up new users. Log On To Microcat LIVE: To log on to the application. Following the initial setup of Microcat LIVE, you may choose to select the Do Not Display Again check box on the Welcome window. Subsequent logons will go directly to the Log On screen. Log on and off At the start of each work session with Microcat LIVE, you will need to log on using your assigned logon information. A user name and password (optional) are only required if User Administration has been installed and users have been created. To log on to Microcat LIVE: 1. Double click on the Microcat LIVE shortcut on the desktop. The Microcat LIVE application will be launched, and the Log On screen displayed. 2. Type your user name in the Username field. 3. Type your password in the Password field. The first time you log on, you may be prompted to change your password. 4. Click the Log On button, or press the Enter key. To log off from Microcat LIVE, click the File menu and select Log Off, or press Ctrl+L. To exit Microcat LIVE, click the File menu and select Exit, or click the Windows Close icon. Infomedia Ltd
5 Getting started Change data source Microcat LIVE provides the facility to retrieve catalogue data from a local hard drive or via the Internet. If User Administration has been enabled, only users with sufficient permission will be able to access online data. To switch the data source between online data or CD/DVD data, use one of the following options: Click the File menu and select Data Source, followed by the required option. Click the Data Source button, located on the right of the status bar. Infomedia Ltd
6 Step 1 Identify vehicle Step 1 Identify vehicle In this section you will learn how to: Access the Identify Vehicle screen Identify a vehicle by the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Identify a vehicle by the registration number Identify a vehicle by selecting all known vehicle details Access the Identify Vehicle screen To select parts accurately, it is first necessary to positively identify the vehicle. Microcat LIVE will automatically interpret parts based on the vehicle details that are specified. The vehicle is identified in the Identify Vehicle screen. When you log on to Microcat LIVE the Identify Vehicle screen is displayed automatically. To access the Identify Vehicle screen at any time: Click the 1. Identify Vehicle icon on the toolbar. Click the Navigation menu and select Identify Vehicle. Press Ctrl+I. Infomedia Ltd
7 Step 1 Identify vehicle Identify by VIN Using a VIN is the most reliable way of identifying a vehicle. To identify a vehicle by VIN: 1. Select Registration/VIN from the Search By drop-down menu. 2. Type the complete VIN in the VIN field. 3. Click the Search button. The Vehicle Identification tab will be populated with the vehicle s details. Click the Vehicle Properties tab to view additional information. 4. Click the Load button to load the vehicle catalogue. The Parts screen will be displayed. The character count on the VIN field indicates the number of characters that have been entered. Infomedia Ltd
8 Step 1 Identify vehicle Identify by registration number In some locations, Microcat LIVE can identify a vehicle by its registration number. To identify a vehicle by registration number: 1. Select Registration/VIN from the Search By drop-down menu. 2. Type the complete registration number in the Registration field. The drop-down menu retains a history of your successful searches. 3. Click the Search button. If more than one search result appears in the Databar, select the required result. The Vehicle Identification tab will be populated with the vehicle s details. Click the Vehicle Properties tab to view additional information. 4. Click the Load button to load the vehicle catalogue. The Parts screen will be displayed. Infomedia Ltd
9 Step 1 Identify vehicle Select vehicle details If the VIN is unknown, the vehicle can be described by selecting all known details in the Vehicle Identification panel. To identify a vehicle by the vehicle attributes: 1. Select the vehicle type from the Type drop-down menu. 2. Select the build year from the Year drop-down menu. 3. Select the vehicle line from the Vehicle drop-down menu. 4. Click the Details button to view all vehicle attributes. 5. Select all known details from the drop-down menus. 6. Click the Load button to load the vehicle catalogue. The Parts screen will be displayed. Infomedia Ltd
10 Step 2 - Select parts Step 2 - Select parts In this section you will learn how to: Access the Parts screen Use the Parts Identification panel to add parts to an Order List Use the Graphic Index to add parts to an Order List Use the Section Navigator Use the Quick Part Locator Work with the Databar Show or hide panels Access the Parts screen Once the vehicle has been identified, the required parts can be selected and added to the Order List. When you identify a vehicle the Parts screen is displayed automatically. To access the Parts screen at any time: Click the 2. Parts icon on the toolbar. Click the Navigation menu and select Locate Parts. Press Ctrl+J. Infomedia Ltd
11 Step 2 - Select parts Use the Parts Identification panel The Parts Identification panel allows you to search for parts using a variety of search types such as description and part number. To search for parts using the Parts Identification panel: 1. Type what you will search for in the Search For field. 2. Select the search type from the Search By drop-down menu. 3. Click the Search button. The search results will be displayed in the Databar. 4. Double click on the required search result to view the illustration. 5. Click the Add To Order icon on the Databar to add the part to the Order List. 6. To display the Order List, click the 3. Order icon on the toolbar. Infomedia Ltd
12 Step 2 - Select parts Reduce Choices Reduce Choices allows you to reduce the number of search results after the original description or section title search has been carried out. To use Reduce Choices: 1. Type the filter criteria in the Reduce Choices field. Type a key word to retain only the searches that include that particular word. Or, type a minus (-) followed by a key word to exclude the searches that contain that particular word. 2. Click the Filter button. The part descriptions or section titles that match the filter criteria will be displayed. 3. Double click on a part from the reduced list. The illustration will be displayed with the decode (callout) of the part highlighted. The Reduce Choices feature can be applied as many times as necessary to filter your results. Infomedia Ltd
13 Step 2 - Select parts Use the Graphic Index The Graphic Index is a pictorial index of the major and minor sections of a vehicle. To locate parts using the Graphic Index: 1. Click the required major section. The corresponding minor sections will be displayed, with the illustrated section titles listed in the Databar. 2. Click the required minor section. Click the Next Page and Previous Page icons index. to scroll between pages of the An illustration of the associated parts will be displayed, with the illustrated part titles listed in the Databar. 14 Step 2 - Select parts 3. Click the required decode on the illustration. If more than one item is highlighted in the Databar, double click on the required item. The key part information will be displayed in the Databar. 4. Double click on the decode on the illustration to add the part to the Order List. 5. To display the Order List, click the 3. Order icon on the toolbar. To return to the start of the Graphic Index at any time, press Ctrl+G. Infomedia Ltd
15 Step 2 - Select parts Use the Section Navigator The Section Navigator contains an alphanumeric listing of the major and minor sections of a vehicle. To locate parts using the Section Navigator: 1. Click Section Navigation in the Tools panel. The Section Navigation frame will display the loaded vehicle, and the corresponding major sections. 2. Click the Plus (+) sign next to the major section, and the minor sections will be listed. 3. Click the required minor section to view an illustration of the associated parts. To go directly to a section: 1. Type the section number in the Section Navigation field. 2. Click the Blue Arrow icon, or press the Enter key. An illustration of the associated parts will be displayed. Infomedia Ltd
16 Step 2 - Select parts Use the Quick Part Locator The Quick Part Locator can be used to check the price of a known part number, and to view the catalogues to which the part number applies. To use the Quick Part Locator: 1. Click the Navigation menu and select Quick Part Locator, or press Alt+Backspace. 2. Type the part number in the Part Number field. 3. Click the Search button. The vehicles applicable to the part will be listed under Catalogue Selection. Pricing will also be displayed if available. 4. Select the required catalogue. 5. Click the Go To button to view the illustration. Or, click the Order button to add the part to the Order List. Infomedia Ltd
17 Step 2 - Select parts Work with the Databar The Databar displays search results and part information. The Databar contains the following tabs: Illustration: The Illustration tab displays a listing of the titles of illustrated sections and parts. Sections or parts can be selected by double clicking on the required item. Part: Once a part title or an illustration decode (callout) has been selected, detailed part information will be displayed in the Part tab. Search: After a search has been performed, the search results are displayed in the Search tab. Double click on the required search result to view the illustration. The Databar tabs automatically change position depending on the action being performed. Click once on a tab to manually select it at any time. Each line item in the Databar is interpreted as to its applicability to the currently loaded vehicle. Different colour text shows applicability: Green the item is applicable Blue the item is a selective or optional fit Red the item is not applicable To show or hide non-applicable parts, click the Show/Hide Non-applicable icon on the Databar. 18 Step 2 - Select parts Adjust the Databar display The Databar display area can be adjusted to suit user preferences. Full screen view To toggle the Databar between full screen and partial screen view, use one of the following options: Click the Expand/Contract Grid icon on the Databar. Click once in the Databar area, and press the Spacebar on the keyboard. Databar height To adjust the height of the Databar: 1. Click the grey line at the top of the Databar. 2. Drag the mouse up or down to the desired height, and release the mouse button. The height of the Databar will be reset. Row height To specify the height of Databar rows: 1. Click once in the Databar area. 2. Hold down the Shift key and press the numbers 1 through 9 on your keyboard. You must use the numbers above the letters on the keyboard, not the numbers on the keypad. Shift+1 is the default (and smallest) setting for the Databar row. The height of the rows will adjust to the number of lines specified. Infomedia Ltd
19 Step 2 - Select parts Show or hide panels The Tools panel and the search panels that appear at the top of the main Microcat LIVE screens can be hidden and redisplayed as required. Hiding panels increases the display area of the screen, allowing more information to be viewed. To show or hide a search panel: 1. Click the vertical Pin icon in the upper right hand corner of the panel. The Pin icon will become horizontal and the panel will recede after five seconds. The panel title bar will remain visible. 2. Roll the mouse over the panel title bar. The panel will reappear in an unpinned state. 3. The panel can be left in an unpinned state while the required search is performed. The panel will recede when the cursor is moved off the panel area. Or, click the horizontal Pin icon to re-pin the panel in position. To show or hide the Tools panel, use one of the following methods: Click the Show/Hide Tools icon on the toolbar. Click the View menu and select or deselect Show Tools. Infomedia Ltd
20 Step 3 Finalise order Step 3 Finalise order In this section you will learn how to: Access the Order screen Edit an Order List Delete an Order List Save an order Print or an order Access the Order screen The Order screen is used to finalise the order. The items on the Order List can be edited, and the order printed or saved. To access the Order screen at any time: Click the 3. Order icon on the toolbar. Click the Navigation menu and select Order List. Press Ctrl+W. Infomedia Ltd
21 Step 3 Finalise order Edit a line To edit the quantity of an ordered item: 1. Click in the Quantity field of the line you wish to edit. 2. Type the required quantity, or use the Up and Down arrows to increase or decrease the quantity. 3. Press the Enter key. The revised quantity will be displayed on the Order List. Show or hide pricing To show or hide pricing on the Order List: 1. Right click on any line in the Order List. 2. Select Show Pricing from the pop-up menu. When Show Pricing is checked, pricing will be displayed. When Show Pricing is unchecked, the pricing columns will be hidden. Infomedia Ltd
22 Step 3 Finalise order Reposition a line To reposition a line on the Order List: 1. Click, hold and drag the line you wish to move to the required position. Ensure the row you wish to move the line to is highlighted. 2. Release the mouse. The line will be repositioned accordingly. Delete a line To delete a line of the Order List: 1. Right click on the line you wish to delete. 2. Select Clear Line from the pop-up menu. The line will be removed from the Order List. Infomedia Ltd
23 Step 3 Finalise order Delete an Order List To delete an entire Order List: 1. Click the Clear List button. 2. Click the OK button to confirm the deletion. The Order List will be deleted. Save an order To save an order: 1. Finalise the Order List. 2. Enter a name for the order in the Customer Name field. 3. Click the Save button, or press Ctrl+S. The order will be saved to the hard drive. To retrieve a saved order: 1. Click Order Profiles in the Tools panel. The saved orders will be displayed, listed under Saved Orders. 2. Double click on the required order, or right click and select Retrieve. The order will be restored to the Order screen. Infomedia Ltd
24 Step 3 Finalise order Print an order To print an order: 1. Finalise the Order List. 2. Click the Print icon on the toolbar, or press Ctrl+P. 3. Specify the required printer options, and click the OK button. The order will be printed. an order To an order: 1. Finalise the Order List. 2. Click the icon on the toolbar, or press Ctrl+Shift+M. 3. Type the address of the mail recipient in the To field. 4. Type the address of the mail sender in the From field (if required). 5. Type a subject and a message. 6. Click the Send button. The Order List will be sent as an attachment to the . Details of the mail server must be specified to enable s to be sent.
