4 2. 1. Structure Network s origin The network has its origin in the transnational project with the same name ehealth for Regions This project ran from June 2004 until May 2007 and was part-financed by the European Union within the frame of the Baltic Sea Region Interreg III B- programme. On the basis of the results and the established network of persons and organisations (from 6 Baltic Sea countries), the Political Strategic Board of the project is proposed to continue to manage the built network after the end of the project period. 5

Structure The legal basis of the network is a network agreement, which defines the network structure and tasks: Political Strategic Board (PSB) Representatives of the highest political level in the regions decide on strategic guidelines and set in motion the deployment of ehealth to the benefit of the citizen in the regions Executive Steering Committee Representatives of the network partners prepare the decisions of the PSB and support actively the progress of the network projects Management Secretariat Day-to-day management 6

Strategic objectives To increase awareness and acceptance of ehealth by citizens, medical professionals and further stakeholders in the regions To compare and benchmark the ehealth performance in the regions transnationally To bring together complementary expertise and knowledge for better quality of health care services for the citizens To jointly use medical/health care, technological and educational resources and capacities for better cost-efficiency in the regions To improve the availability and accessibility of health care services To foster mutual access to regional health care markets 7

South Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein (January 2009-December 2010) Strengthening Patient Safety between Denmark and Germany (April 2009-April 2011) ICT for Health in regions with ageing population and for chronically sick people (January 2010-December 2012) 8

Project: ICT for Health At a Glance Partly financed by the European Union Baltic Sea Region Programme (European Regional Development Fund) 20 project partners, 8 Baltic Sea Region countries involved (Denmark, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia, Sweden) Duration: January December 2012 Financial volume: 3.65 Mio. Project: ICT for Health Objective Ageing population in the BSR - more citizens with chronic diseases with a higher demand for health care. ehealth allows a mutual beneficial collaboration of patients and medical / health care professionals in prevention and treatment. However the absorbtion of knowledge and acceptance to use ehealth is varing remarkable in all partner regions (survey in five BSR countries during the former Interreg IIIB project) Overall objective Citizens with chronic diseases and medical / health care professionals in the regions of the project partners have the social capacity, knowledge and acceptance to utilise ehealth technologies in prevention and treatment by the year
