1 OEM International Tech Support 12-May-04/ MG Service Bulletin RS422/485 General technical information: - Level ±5V, no GND for reference!, +5V +T -T a pair of wires for a signal -5V - RS422: Point to point wiring, 4 wires, only 1 printer Advantage: insensible to interference - RS485: Point to "multiple-point" wiring, (2 or) 4 wires, Advantage: insensible to interference, multiple printers switchable - Length of wires up to 1200m; using long wiring/ high baud-rate termination with 120 Ohms on each pair of wires (Tx / Rx) is necessary - Handshake: With RS-422/485, Hardware Handshake (RTS-CTS) is not possible. Only Software Handshake (XON-XOFF) is supported. - Most in use: Converter-modul RS232 / RS485 on PC-side with galvanic separation Attention, general advice! Do not forget to send the command [ #!Px ] at the end of the easy-plug file; otherwise the printers are still active and print every incoming printjob! On Avery64-0x, ALX92x and DPM-0x printers, the interface RS485 / 422 is selectable the in the parameter menu. It might be necessary to set the termination via jumper on the CPU board (see next pages). On the AP5.4 and AP7.t, the optional I/O board offers a second serial port with which the interface RS485 / 422 is selectable the in the parameter menu. 2 On the TTX x50, the TTX67x, the TDI and TTK, the serial interface can be operated alternatively in RS485/422 mode. This can be changed by means of one jumper and an opt. RS-485 Chip (98438) on the mainboard (see next page or service manual/ service / page15). 3 To test the "4-wiring mode" on TTX450/650, TTX67x: Use e.g. MS-Window s HYPERTERMINAL, set the printer to Handshake mode XON/XOFF. When toggling ONLINE to OFFLINE, each time a XON / XOFF is transmitted and recorded by HYPERTERMINAL.
