4 What is MATBUS? MATBUS is the public transportation system serving the communities of Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo and Dilworth. With many routes to serve you (and with 1,000,000 Bison riders each year), we encourage you to Go Green by riding with MATBUS! I have a car; will I still use MATBUS? Absolutely! MATBUS is the best option to travel around NDSU and the entire metro area. We can drive you around NDSU, to classes at the downtown campuses, take you shopping and practically everywhere else you d like to go. When it s cold outside and your vehicle won t start, our buses are warm and ready to go! It s all free with your Bison ID and there are no parking worries! How much does it cost to ride MATBUS? MATBUS and NDSU have a U-Pass agreement, which allows all students, faculty and staff to ride any bus for free. By being enrolled at NDSU, you are automatically a part of the U-Pass system. Simply swipe your Bison ID in the farebox onboard our buses and ride any route for free. Are all MATBUS routes included in this Guide? Nope. MATBUS offers many routes not included in this Guide, due to a lack of space. For more information, visit our website at matbus.com or pick up a copy of our maps/schedules at the Memorial Union or on any of our buses. Can I ride my bike and then hop on the bus? Yes! All of the MATBUS vehicles have a bike rack attached to the front, which can hold several bikes at a time. They are very easy to use and the directions are printed right on the bike rack. If you ever need assistance, just ask the driver. He or she would be happy to help! How do I transfer to another bus? When boarding the first bus, just tell the driver that you need to transfer to another bus. He or she will contact the driver of your next bus to help you make a successful and quick transfer. You ll need to swipe your Bison ID each time you board another bus.
5 Are MATBUS vehicles accessible to everyone? Absolutely! Our buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts and ramps. The driver will secure wheelchairs inside the bus before departure. How do I exit the bus? About one block before you want to leave the bus, pull the yellow cord located by each window. Don t start exiting the bus until it comes to a complete stop. Our driver will let you off at the next corner, bus stop or closest point where it s safe to stop. Please wait for the bus to move on before crossing the street. I lost something on board a bus, now what? Contact the GTC Dispatch Hotline at to see if your lost item has been found. Items will be held for seven days, but MATBUS is not responsible for any lost property. How do I read the maps and timetables? Each MATBUS route has a different color that shows the path on the map. Along this path are many common destinations that are assigned a letter. These letters along the path are matched to the same letter on the routes timetables. The time that is listed under these letters are the earliest time a bus will be at that location. If you are boarding the bus at a location not listed on the timetable, look at the time listed prior to your location and use that as your time. Where does the bus stop? Our buses travel on routes that are shown in this brochure and on our maps the drivers cannot pick up passengers that aren t waiting along one of the route paths. Buses stop at bus shelters, bus stop signs and most street corners along the routes. Stand on the right side, near the corner of the intersection closest to the lane traveled by the bus. If possible, stand by a NDSU bus stop sign on campus or a MATBUS stop sign on the other routes. Make sure to wave at the driver so that he or she knows you wish to board. How do I stay connected with MATBUS? matbus Simply log onto your favorite networking site and search for MATBUS. You ll meet lots of new friends in college, but MATBUS might just become one of your besties! Visit matbus.com and ndsu.edu/parking/transit

23 rules of the road Always wear a helmet. People who don t wear helmets are 20 times more likely to die of a head injury if they are involved in an accident. Ride on the right side of the road with the flow of traffic. Ride on a bike path if you feel safer doing so. Obey all traffic laws and signs. Running a stop sign is not only illegal, it is extremely dangerous. Be predictable. Ride in a straight line, and use hand signals at intersections if you intend to turn. Be conscious of those around you. Listen for traffic approaching from behind. Do not wear headphones; they re illegal on a bicycle. Ride after dark only if you have a headlight and rear reflector. Be visible, wear lightcolored clothes. Reflective vests and leg-bands are a good idea. Stay in control. Don t carry more people on your bike than it was designed to carry, and don t overload yourself with packages. Keep at least one hand on your handlebars at all times. Don t hitch a ride on another vehicle. Hanging onto a motorized vehicle is very dangerous. When using a bike path, be courteous to other users. Do not use your cell phone while riding your bicycle. It is extremely dangerous.
