3 Session Description Leadership development is a cornerstone strategy of many organizations. Books and materials on the subject are plentiful. Training courses and conferences are commonplace. The challenge is often getting your arms around all of the different concepts and theories. In this special session we will explore a very practical model that pulls together the very basic, but not so obvious, elements of becoming an effective leader. We will discuss examples and evaluate our own effectiveness. Then we will talk about some very realistic, but powerful steps you can take to increase your influence as a leader. H. B. Maynard and Company, Inc Page 3

4 Foundational Question: Are effective leaders born or developed? H. B. Maynard and Company, Inc Page 4

9 What is Servant-Leadership? Servant-Leadership is more than serving and more than leading. Servant-Leadership brings together the heart of a servant, focusing on serving the best interest of others, and the competent, confident, forward-seeing call of a leader. In joining the two dimensions, Servant-Leaders are more effective at both serving and leading because they develop and inspire people and lead the way to individual and organizational success. H. B.
