A Leader s FOCUS This separates the good from the. F: things! Keep the main thing, the main thing! Until a person gets his priorities in life straight, everything else is going to be out of order. Billy Graham List the top five things that are most important in your life: The best is never the most popular. In fact, the good is often the enemy of the best. O: Do unto others as you would have them do to you BUT, you do it first! People don t care how much you know, until they know how much you care about THEM. Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it s thinking of yourself less. If you help other people get what they want out of life, you can have whatever you want out of your life. Zig Ziglar C: Are you on the inside what you claim to be on the outside? Is there a GAP between what you say your beliefs are, and what you do? 3

Six Thieves of Your Success and Responsibility The point when you take full responsibility for where you are today, is the point where your life changes forever You are where you are today because of the choices YOU have made. Our life is made of choices, then our choices make our life. C: 95% of all problems! Clarity is a Rarity! What are the key ingredients for success? The ability to PLAN, ORGANIZE, and COMMUNICATE. Remember, 85% of your success will originate from your people skills attitude, enthusiasm, self-discipline; only 15% will be due to your technical skills. One of the most common causes of failure is the habit of quitting when one is overtaken by temporary defeat. 4

How to Establish an INSTANT Bond 1. Firm Shake hands firmly. This fosters confidence and also shows that you genuinely care about people, making them want to connect with you as well. 2. Good 3. Genuine on your face. First impression is essential. Make it unforgettable. Be enthusiastic and outgoing. Smile and make eye contact when you greet people 4. Know and remember person s We love to hear our own name. Use word association to help remember. Something they do or some notable characteristic. Repeat their name during conversation to help remember. 5. Make a Find a reason to connect. Did you grow up in the same state/ area? Have you been to their home town? Are you and avid fan of a similar team/ sport as well? People need to feel like they are understood and rapport is instantly built on a foundation of common experience. Find a connector then find another then another. 6. Identify an obvious in the individual and affirm it. Everyone possesses a positive trait. Find out something good and highlight it over the course of the conversation. Be careful: Remember there is a difference between schmoozing and sincerity. People can discern a fraud, so don t be one. Remember, people want to associate with winners. If you act like you believe in yourself and are convinced of your own success, people will then more readily partner with you in your pursuits. 5

The 4 Main Personality Styles D Bold Direct, Dominant, Demanding Competitive, Being in Charge Primary Needs: Results Battleship Outgoing and Task-Oriented C Technical Cautious, Logical, Consistent, Excellence, Detailed Primary Needs: Quality Submarine Reserved and Task-Oriented I Expressive Friendly, Outgoing, Emotional, Approval Influence Primary Needs: People Cruise ship Outgoing and People- Oriented S Supportive Steady, Team player, Service, Sincere, Loyal Primary Needs: Cooperation Sailboat Reserved and People-Oriented C: Act your WAGE! 75% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. 86% of divorces are from financial mismanagement. Life is about what do you want and what are you willing to give up? U: Always seek wisdom! are the greatest limitation you will ever have! Stop learning, you stop growing. Stop growing you stop living The more you learn, the more you earn. Leaders are readers and readers are leaders. With new information comes new inspiration. 6

A BALL: If at first you don t succeed: 1. _S 2. _A 3. Do it S: Go to the Just nip it! Nip-it-in-the-bud! Great American Philosopher- Barney Fife A leader MUST confront problems! Criticize in private and PRAISE in public. Be _S, frequent, and _G with your praise. The worst thing you can say is Good Job. Be specific! 8 Goal Setting (excerpt from 7 Habits of Highly Effective People) Five Keys to Goal Setting 1. Count the. There is no such thing as something for nothing. 2. Put it to. Writing down your goals automatically puts you in the top 3%. 3. Just. 4. Use M moments. Law of the Pendulum 5. Rope. GOAL SETTING Uniquely Made How many uses can you think of? 9 INSIGHTS We are going to respond to a series of questions. Every answer you give is absolutely right. No one will question it. Simply respond to what you hear. You may answer any way you want- but you must answer. You cannot cop out by stealing someone else s answer. We will proceed around the circle, starting with a different person each time. If you cannot think of an answer at your turn, say, pass and the leader will come back to you later. Please, speak loudly so that everyone else can hear. Try not to change your answer once you decide what it will be. Do not change to what you think will be a more appropriate answer. We can learn a great deal from facial expressions, hand movements, and body language, what people do not say, or hesitate in saying. We are interested in discovering good things about each other, in finding others real identity and personal strengths/characteristics. We will also discover more about ourselves! We must listen. This is not a debate! We are not here to disagree. We are here to discover each other, as well as, learn a little more about ourselves. Too often we defend our own little worlds without listening to all the hearts beating around us. As each person answers, collect those various answers in your mind and begin developing an idea of each person in the group. If we all do this, perhaps a few of our invisible boundaries will melt and we ll know each other better. 1. What is your favorite food? 2. What is your least favorite food? 3. What is the best movie you have ever seen? 4. What physical thing do you want to build more than anything? 5. What do you like to do most with a free hour? 6.
