1 DACRON DACRON GLASS FIBER COVERED MAGNET WIRE CLASS 200 INSULATION DACRON Glass Fiber-covered Magnet Wire is manufactured by serving a combination of glass and Dacron fibers over a bare or film-coated conductor. The conductor is then heated, which melts the Dacron and fuses the glass yarns to the conductor and to each other. APPLICATIONS DACRON is recommended for the following applications: - motors and generators, - motors rewinding, - high physical abuse applications, - generator coils, - electromagnet. PRODUCTION RANGE DACRON availability: - round or shaped conductors, - bare or film insulated conductors, - single or double wraps of Dacron glass. Varnish can then be applied as required. CHARACTERISTICS DACRON meets the requirements of NEMA MW 1000 specifications 45-C, 51-C, 47-C, 46-C, 53-C and 48-C. PROPERTIES DACRON has the following characteristics: - physical protection for severe winding applications, - reliable physical separation between turns, - an insulation with extreme toughness with abrasion resistance, - excellent electrical qualities attributed to glass-insulated, - strengthened bonding thanks to Dacron. Additional thermal capability can be obtained by applying varnish, which impregnates the fibers and provides a smooth outer surface. DACRON can be used extensively in electrical machinery where high temperatures, vibration, severe winding conditions and excessive moisture are encountered. DACRON has applications similar to those of fiber-glass-insulated magnet wire, and with the correct varnish it can be used in applications requiring up to Class H temperatures. To take full advantage of the temperature characteristics of insulated wire, the slot insulation, lubricating greases, etc., must also have similar thermal ratings. Note IV. The increase in width due to the polyester glass fiber covering shall be equal to or less than the maximum increase in thickness given in the table. Note I applies to the increase in width as well as the increase in thickness. Note V. Because it is impossible to accurately separate the polyester glass fiber covering from the film coating, the total minimum increase in the thickness of the film coated polyester glass fiber covered rectangular wire shall be the sum of the minimum increase due to the film coating (as shown for film coated wire in Part 2) and the minimum increase due to the polyester glass fiber covering. The total minimum increase shall be not less than 70 percent of the maximum increase given in the table above, rounded to the nearest inch (0.025mm). Note VI.
