7 Self-Drilling Screws 410 Stainless Steel- ClimaShield 8 Product Description Tanner stocks a full line of 410 stainless steel self-drilling screws in hex washer, pan and flat phillips head. Available with ClimaShield corrosion protection or a bright hardened finish, 410 stainless steel self-drilling screws should be used when strength and corrosion resistance are factors. Type 410 martensitic stainless steel permits strength properties roughly equivalent to those of medium carbon steel SAE Grade 5 fasteners. These properties are attained as this grade of stainless steel has a carbon content that allows a sharp increase in tensile strength after heat treating and also reduces corrosion resistance. 410 Stainless Steel is magnetic, contains no nickel, loses toughness in very cold temperatures, and may have a tendency to become brittle. Its corrosion resistance is not as good as austenitic ("18-8 "or 300 series) stainless steel and are therefore recommended in mild atmospheres. Type 410 stainless steel should be considered a prime candidate for use in any application where zinc plated case hardened steel fasteners are deficient in providing the needed corrosion protection. They are not recommended for fastening dissimilar metals such as aluminum to steel or stainless steel.
