On arrival we will be met and taken on a brief orientation tour of the city on the way to our elegant hotel. This centrally situated hotel is ideal for personally discovering Copenhagen. Remainder of the day is free. Copenhagen is situated on the largest of the 500 Danish islands. This is a city that is easy to know and to discover. The centre of Copenhagen runs from the harbour to Radhuspladsen (town hall) square. Copenhagen Explore Nyhavn - Many consider this to be the heart of Copenhagen. It is a pleasant easy walk from our hotel. Nyhavn was once an unsavoury region with all the sordid aspects of harbour life. Today it is a delightful area with good restaurants and cafes. Most of the buildings have been beautifully kept in their 18 th century splendour. Heavymasted wooden ships still bob in the canal, giving all the nautical prompts our imaginations need. Nyhavn was the home of Hans Christian Anderson, in fact he had three different addresses there. A wonderful way to explore Copenhagen is to hire a bike and cycle around this lovely city. Copenhagen - At Sea Today is left free until our late afternoon departure egin our overnight cruise on the 5 star luxury liner to Oslo. Dinner tonight will be a fabulous Scandinavian smorgasbord with onboard entertainment. Accommodation will be in twin and single outside cabins. Oslo Norway (2 nights) Disembark from our cruise liner into our luxury mini buses were we will drive to our centrally located hotel to meet our local guide for an orientation tour of Oslo and a visit to the fascinating Vigeland sculpture park and the famous Holmankollen Ski jump. Oslo was founded in 1050 AD and was destroyed by fire in It was re-built as the city of Christiania reverting to its original name in This is another walking city having a distinct Viking heritage. Oslo A free day. Across the bay on the ygdoy Peninsula are several museums dedicated to the cultural history of Norway. Allow time for the fascinating Norwegian Folk Museum, the Viking and the Kon-Tiki museum. Make a visit to the Akerhaus Fortress and Resistance museum. The medieval fortress overlooks the harbour and in its parklands houses the outstanding WW2 Resistance museum. Oslo to Geilo Norway 218km (1 night) Perched amongst some of Norway s best ski fields is the diminutive town of Geilo. The stark windswept hills can be easily imagined with a mantle of snow. D D 1

Our hotel is a family run hotel with impeccable service and cuisine. Tonight we enjoy the hotel s hospitality which often runs to a national dancing exhibition given by the locals. Skei to Geiranger Norway - 125km via Hellesylt ferry (2 nights) This morning we drive along the shores of Lake Hornindal; Europe s deepest lake- 514metres. It is also Norway s largest lake. If the Hellesylt ferry timetable permits we will make a diversionary excursion the riksdalbreen glacier. Near the glacier is a cafeteria for refreshments. The mountain and valley views to and from the glacier are quite spectacular. oarding the ferry we can relax and for just over an hour enjoy the cruise on the world s most famous fjord; the stunning Geiranger fjord. Soaring mountains come right down to the fjord offering sheer cliffs for hundreds of metres along with many waterfalls. Evidence of human habitation in the many abandoned mountain and shoreside farms leave a lasting impression. Legends are many. Occasionally one can see ladders lowered to the water s edge, above is usually a lonely farm, uninhabited since the 1950s and 1960s. Geiranger Lovely unspoiled Gerianger. It is not a town and barely a hamlet but what views and walks are open to us. Here we have some of Norway s best fjord scenery. Our hotel for the next two nights is an oasis amongst a natural backdrop of mountain scenery. This morning you are welcome to join our staff on a walk of an hour or two to overview the mighty Geiranger Fjord. Alternatively we have one or two of our mini-buses available for a drive to Dalsnibba Norway s highest mountain view. On this drive we will use part of the road awarded for engineering excellence at the 1900 World Exhibition in Paris. Geiranger to Alesund Norway - 116km (3 nights) A thrilling drive is in store for you this morning driving right down to the waters edge at the fjord we then begin to climb the steep road over the mountain and often into the clouds en-route to Alesund and our hotel for the evening. eing a seafaring town there are some wonderful fish restaurants available. Salmon, halibut, monk fish, herring, North Sea prawns and of course cod. Alesund We have arranged for a three-hour excursion with our local guide who will lead us on a sightseeing tour of the town and surrounding district with our mini-buses. Alesund is unique in a number of ways. It is situated on five islands, the capital of the Klipfish industry (dried cod) and it is a town completely rebuilt after a disastrous fire in Through the generosity of a number of nations the town was re-built in Art Nouveau style. Nowhere else can you see such a concentration of Art Nouveau structures. Alesund A free day to personally explore this fascinating seaport or just relax. You may like to visit the wonderful Art Nouveau museum close to our hotel. Alesund to Førde 235km (1 night) We have many fjords to cross and more stunning scenery to enjoy today before we reach our hotel. Enjoy a sauna or a swim in the indoor hotel pool before dinner. Førde to ergen Norway 171 km (2 nights) On our journey today you have the opportunity to ride on one of the world s most beautiful and spectacular railway lines; the Flam Railway. The train ride is optional. This amazing 45 minute rail journey between the high mountains and the fjord offers wild and beautiful mountain scenery with snow-clad mountains and fertile pastures. The funicular opens from till and from to The ryggen or old part of town is around the quay. Here is the famed Hanseatic port restored to its 18 th century style. Standing in a row along the waterfront is a fine array of photogenic wooden buildings dating from These buildings now house fascinating small galleries, craft shops, restaurants and museums. ergen to Haugesund Norway 139km (1 night) En-route we will make a stop at Grieg s delightful house where you will be able to see how this famous composer lived and where he composed most of his music. Then it is on to Haugesund traveling through more magnificent country and our overnight stop. Haugesund yglandsfjord Norway 311 km (1 night) Ski fields, rushing streams and a rugged countryside will be the backdrop for our journey today. It all culminates at the delightful lakeside hamlet of yglandsfjord where we overnight with dinner. yglandsfjord to Larvik/Frederikshavn Ferry - 204km (Overnight ferry) A late departure today will find us taking the scenic minor roads to our ferry terminal for the overnight luxury ferry to Frederikshavn Denmark arriving this next morning. A great opportunity to stock up on duty free goods. Frederikshavn to Ribe Denmark 353km (2 nights) Denmark is a very flat country and the scenery today will be grassed sand hills, fishing ports, windmills and even the occasional gun emplacement left over from WW2. We follow the coast as much as practical on our way to the Viking town of Ribe. Our home for the next two nights is a hotel built in It has been carefully restored and creates a genuine atmosphere of a medieval hotel with all modern facilities. Ribe Ribe s history began is the 8 th century. It was a Viking port and in those days the sea was right beside the town. Nowadays, due to silting, the coast is some distance away. eing Denmark s oldest town you will be enchanted wandering the cobble stoned streets and laneways and enthralled with the old shops and public buildings. We may be lucky and strike a night when the Town Night Watchman calls to the hotel and escorts guests around the town on his rounds. He relates the original reason for his job and some of the old stories of the town and its inhabitants. Ribe to Wilhelmshaven Germany - 358km (1 night) This morning we continue south making for the North Sea port of Wilhelmshaven. It is the biggest naval base and only deep water harbour in Germany. The town is also known for its South each, which happens to be the only South facing beach on the German North Sea coast. Our hotel for tonight is cosy and centrally located. Wilhelmshaven to Enkhuizen Netherlands 335km (2 nights) We have an interesting drive today as we make our way to what was once the North Zuider Zee (Ijsselmeer), on our way Enkhuizen. The Afsluitdijk (Closure-Dike), which connects North Holland with Friesland, is a famous dike, perhaps the most famous in the Netherlands. On May 28, 1932, at two minutes after one o clock in the afternoon, steam whistles blew and sirens screamed and the flag was hoisted; the Zuiderzee was no more, the last opening - the Vlieter - was closed. The dike was closed and the IJsselmeer was born.it was near here that this once busy port spawned the famous East India Company. Our hotel is beside the main canal that feeds into the North Sea. Enkhuizen This old town has so much to offer that the proximity to Amsterdam seems to lose its significance. A delightful open air museum is within walking distance and strolls or bike riding along the shoreline can be an enjoyable experience. For those who want to visit Amsterdam; the local railway station is just a few hundred metres away and the easy trip to central Amsterdam take about one hour. D D D 3

4 Day Sept Day Sept Day Sept Day Sept Day Sept Day Sept Enkhuizen to Peronne France km (1 night) Today we enter France and during the latter part of the day we travel through the battlefields of the Somme to the charming old town of Peronne. In the town is the Historial de la Grande Guerre or WW1 war museum. This tastefully laid out museum is a must for anyone interested in WW1 memorabilia. Peronne to Paris France 156km (3 nights) This morning we will divert to Le Hamel and the now peaceful and scenic countryside to visit the magnificent Australian National War Memorial and war graves in the Somme. This memorial is to the Australian men and women of WW1. We will visit the local primary school in Villiers retonnaux which was a gift to the children of the town from the children of Victoria as proof of their good will towards France. Attached to the school is a truly wonderful and moving museum set up in the memory of the brave Australians who gave their lives to capture the town from invaders in We then join the motorway for the last hundred or so kilometres to Paris and estimate arrival in at our Paris hotel around 12.30pm. We suggest you take the easy walk to the Eiffel Tower this afternoon. Paris Always so much to do and so much to see in the City of Light. Should you wish to extend your time in Paris please let us know when making your tour reservation. For those who have not seen Paris before we suggest you start with a day pass on the hop-on-hop-off bus leaving from the Tower Eiffel or cruise on the river Seine or/and a Paris Canal cruise to give you some orientation to the major attractions of Paris. Using the economical and user friendly Metro is a great way to travel around the City of Light. Tonight we can arrange a optional booking for you at the fabulous Moulin Rouge for dinner and the Revue. We need to know at the time you make your tour booking as reservations at the Moulin Rouge are in great demand. Paris A free day for further private exploration of the City of light. The best panoramic views of the city are from Montmartre and the basilica Sacre-Coeur. Here you can also watch the painters work at their easels. Why not have your face immortalized by one of the portrait artists! Or you may decide to take a days excursion to Monet s Garden or the wonderful Chateau de Versailles.
