At the completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Understand and apply the major roles that managers perform in their jobs to add value to the organization. 2. Examine ethical problems and identify key concepts in business ethics and social responsibility. 3. Identify social, safety, and environmental issues relevant to a business decision. 4. Design and work in high performance teams. 5. Apply rational decision-making. 6. Describe who leaders are and what effective leaders do. 7. Analyze and establish methods to plan, organize, lead and control organizational processes. Instructional Methods 1. The primary method of learning will be using weekly tasks, mini-projects, and discussion and case analyses. 2. We will be using Aplia readings and problem sets to help us understand management concepts. You will find access to Aplia in the Blackboard course menu. You will need to use the course code to enter XXXXXXXX You will also need to purchase the access code that comes bundled with or without the paper text. 3. Teams will collaborate on some cases. It requires active involvement of each individual in a team. 4. Teams will be responsible for making team rules to develop the process of conducting the cases analyses and mini-projects. This dialogue is a major element in the learning strategy. Individual participants will be responsible for completing exams and the final paper.

2 5. For your first task, go to the course introduction section of the course menu, download, and complete the Photo Student Information Card. Please give it to me in class. Make sure to add a photo that will not be returned. 6. Participation points are awarded after you have given me the Photo Student Information card. This is found in the course introduction link in Blackboard. Course Description/Course content 1. Description: This course introduces the student to the fundamental principles and basic theoretical concepts of management. 2. Content: Chapter readings refer to Williams, C. (2013). MGMT 6. Mason, OH: Thomson 3. In each week are tasks found in Aplia found in the course menu. Several weeks do not have tasks to allow time and opportunity to complete cases and do the part exams. You will note that each part has less time available for cases and exams; this recognizes your increased knowledge and skill level. 4 GRADING STANDARD: 100% to 90% = A 89% to 80% = B 79% to 70% = C 69% to 60% = D Less than 59% = F 1. Cases and Mini-Project: The cases and miniprojects are listed in the course schedule. The due date noted in the schedule. Follow the prescribed format and use of outside scholarly research. Submit cases and miniprojects via Blackboard. Cases and projects are graded on correctness of responses, application of concepts and critical thinking. In team projects and cases, all team members receive the same grade unless you notify me in advance that a member of a team should receive more or fewer points according to the team rules. Format for cases is found on Blackboard in Course Introduction. 2. Exams: Each exam will consist of multiple choice and short answer type questions. Each student must complete three exams. All exams are found in Blackboard. 3. Participation: Individuals are evaluated on participating in teams and class activities. Online students can participate in the discussion areas. Teams can reach consensus to award more or less points for individual team members if their team rules allow it. Participation points are awarded after you have given me the Student Information card. This is found in the course introduction link in Blackboard. 4. Aplia Tasks. Look in the course menu and use the Aplia link. You will need to use the course key to enter the course: XXXXXXXX. You should receive an access number to enroll with your text (bundled) or purchase of the access code alone. 5. Final Case Analysis: Students will write a final case analysis as a final exam this is an individual assignment. Outside research to support finings is expected. Each paper should contain at least four academic sources other than the text, along with several other sources (books, magazines, internet), which form the foundation of the paper. The final case is graded using the Final Case Rubric. Submit the final case through Blackboard.

5 The paper should be in APA or MLA format, typed and double-spaced (12 pt. Times Roman font) and follow the prescribed format. This paper should be no less than five pages and no longer than eight pages (excluding title page, table of contents, references, and appendices). Instructor Course Policies 1. Course Expectations: Below are some of the behaviors expected of students in this course. As a student in this class, you are expected to: a. Attend class. Be active in the course. Participation in teams and required activities influences your overall grade. b. Be prepared. Being prepared for assignments and team meetings; do the assigned reading and assignments. c. Participate in class and team discussions. Feel free to express your opinions about various topics, and be prepared to justify your position. In your discussions, distinguish for the class facts, beliefs, and feelings regarding an issue. Ask questions. 2. THERE WILL BE NO MAKE-UP EXAMS AND LATE ASSIGNMENTS ARE NOT ACCEPTED unless prior arrangements are made. Every day the assignment or submission is late will result in a reduction of 25% of the grade for that assignment or submission. 3. Use of Computers: Students are required to use computers for their assignments. No hand-written assignments are accepted in this course.
