3 Why a Knowledge partnership between ADB and UNESCO-IHE? ADB wants to get access to high-quality knowledge The Netherlands is considered as a kind of Silicon Valley for water knowledge, while the Dutch water sector is not really active in Asia and The Pacific Both parties can learn from effective knowledge sharing and dissemination Experts involved in the KP are selected on quality Fair and market-conform rates

4 ADB-UNESCO-IHE PARTNERSHIP FIRST PHASE: Signed on November 7, 2011, initially 33 months up to Aug. 7, 2014 with budget neutral extension to Dec. 31, 2014 Funding of 2.5 m USD from ADB s Water Fund In-kind contribution from UNESCO-IHE through: Its ongoing programs and activities in the A&P region Access to its facilities and special courses Total of 17 Projects Implemented

5 Aim is to support: ADB DMC counterparts ADB staff THE PARTNERSHIP Activities: providing expert guidance on Education and Training Capacity Development Knowledge Networking programs Strengthening regional Knowledge Networking among clients, partners and K-hubs

6 Priority Themes Government-corporate-society partnerships, Corporatization of public utilities, Partnerships with knowledge institutes Water and climate change Water and food security Water, environment and ecosystems Sanitation and wastewater management Water governance

7 Expectations from ADB side To tap from the pool of experts from UNESCO-IHE s Global Network for support in: Project preparation and implementation (TA s) Operational research and joint studies, by making use of M.Sc and PhD research students Peer review of complex projects Promoting networking among clients and K-hubs Organizing sessions in workshops and Water Fora Education and capacity building activities to refresh the knowledge of staff from DMC country offices and ADB Support country Water Assessments, Future of Water in Asia study, Asian Water Info System, etc.
