3 1.Precautions for Use Avoid a smoky, humid or dusty place. Placing this product in such place causes an electric damage and/or malfunction to this product. The suitable room temperature is from 20 to 25. The high temperature of the LED could cause malfunction to this product. Cable from the LED light is delicate part made by precision technology. Do not pull so strong. Do not bend so sharp. Please handle with care. Replacing a LED/other parts may cause a fire or a damage to this product. Make sure of some points listed below when user changes the LED light. Do not change the LED light when the power is ON. After changing the LED light adjust the intensity control to "0" and gradually rotate the intensity control clockwise to confirm turning the light on. Do not touch heatsink area on the LED light when the LED is ON. Be careful that the LED light source becomes extremely hot after using for a long time.

4 2.Overview Brainvision Inc. has released the new LED-5G and LED-5B, both high-power LED illumination systems for fluorescent imaging. They can be used by as stand alone light sources, or they can be easily adapted to microscopes. Xenon and Mercury light sources have problems such as flicker and bulbs with short lifetimes. Halogen bulbs provide more stable lighting with reduced noise, but these bulbs also have a very short lifetime. However, LED's can last for several years, up to 10 years in some cases, if the temperature is controlled. Furthermore, its intensity is stable and does not produce any flicker. Electrical on/off vibration-less shutter is also one of the reasons why these LEDs are an ideal illumination source for high speed imaging. 3.Operation Environment Temperature Humidity < 65% Input oltage V V, 50/60Hz

5 4.Feedback Function The LED light source consists of LED (light emitting diode) and photodiode. The Photodiode detects the LED's light intensity and adjusts current applied to the LED in order to make its intensity stable when the feedback switch on the rear panel of the controller is ON. This feedback function works in a dark room or a condition where there is no external light. Please turn OFF the feedback switch on the rear panel of the contoller if the feedback function doesn't work correctly resulted from an external light.

6 5.Part Names 5-1. Front Panel of Controller External Input ConnectorConnect a BNC cable from an external equipment. This contoller can work in synchronization with LVTTL level input. In the case that shutter switch() is set to the lower side, high and low level input turns the LED on and off respectively. Shutter SwitchAt the upper side, the LED light is always At on. the lower side, the LED is on and off in response to external input to the external input connector(). Intensity Control : For adjusting the light intensity. Power Switch : Power is on at the upper side and power is f of at the lower side. Light Indicator (greenthe light is on when the LED is on. Over-Current IndicatorredThe light is ON when current applied to the LED is over 650mA. Power IndicatorblueThe light is ON when the power switch is ON Rear Panel of Controller DC Power Supply Inlet : Connector for the DC power supply via power supply adaptor. LED ConnectorConnector for the LED light source. Current Adjustment TrimmerFor adjusting current applied to the LED. This trimmer has been already adjusted during making. User doesn't need to set this trimmer. Light Intensity Feedback SwitchThe feedback function is on at the upper side and f at of the lower side.

With those adaptors, LED-5G/5B can be easily adapted on the THT tandem-lens microscope from Brainvision or SciMedia, and can also be used on any fluorescent microscope.

9 7.Connection and Setting Up T urn the power switch off (to the lower side). Turn the shutter switch off (to the lower side). Turn the intensity contol to "0" (counterclockwise). Connet the power cable to the DC Power Supply Inlet. Connect the LED cable to LED connetor. Connet the LED light to a microscope or set it to any place.

10 8. How to Use Manual operation for adjusting light intensity T urn the intensity control counterclockwise and set it to "0" Set the power switch to the upper side (ON). Set the shutter switch to the upper side (ON). Gradually turn the light intensity clockwise and adjust light intensity. External control for turning the LED on and off Input an external signal for controlling the turning of the LED to the external input connector. Turn the shutter switch off. The LED begins to emit light in synchronization with an external signal input. When the shutter switch is ON, the LED is always ON even if an external signal is inputted.
