2 Overview, advantages, innovation SIMATIC C7 control systems comprising SIMATIC OP & S7-300 SIMATIC OP SIMATIC S7-300 SIMATIC C7 Overview In addition to pure control functions, it is also necessary to solve many different types of HMI functions on your machine. Furthermore, you may also have to satisfy customer demands and configure your machine together with the controller in an extremely compact design. You therefore wish to implement a complete machine controller in just one unit? The SIMATIC C7 all-in-one control systems have been optimized for exactly such applications, and combine an S7-300 PLC and an operator panel in one single unit. It has therefore become possible to implement complete yet expandable machine controllers within the smallest possible space and at a lower cost (hardware and engineering overheads). The PLC part comprises CPU, I/O and interface to the I/O expansion; the HMI part is either a line-oriented or pixel graphics OP depending on the type. Advantages Combining a PLC and an OP in one device outfits the SIMATIC C7 control systems with the following advantages Less space needed: the compact design uses up much less space in the machine. Time savings: the ready-to-use control solution lowers engineering overhead, e.g. for configuration, installation and wiring Cost savings: up to 20% lower procurement costs compared with a similar modular solution - often the control cabinet is smaller or becomes totally superfluous or the C7 device can be integrated directly in the operator panel. Flexibility: simple expansion with S7-300 modules means that C7 devices are open for comprehensive and complex automation solutions. System integration: Since C7 is a full member of Totally Integrated Automation all advantages with regard to system integration can be taken for granted. Innovation The all-in-one C7-613 and C7-635 systems and the new C7-636 system with integral compact CPU profit from the further development of these S7-300 CPUs and offer even more functionality and performance: Fast actual-value recording with direct access to hardware counters and inputs for the counting and frequency measurement functions permit a significant improvement in dynamic characteristics, e.g. for positioning tasks. Tripling of the processing speed for floating-point commands results in noticeably faster program execution with mathematical functions. Scanning of the serial number of the Micro Memory Card (MMC) during operation permits copy protection for the user software. Increasing the number of function calls and data blocks facilitates the portability of user programs which were developed for C7 devices with standard CPUs and are now also to be used on C7 devices with compact CPUs. Together with the integral analog output, the new positioning functions permit direct control of MICROMASTER frequency converters. C7-635 and C7-636 support the DPV1 standard. Parameterization and optimization of field devices during runtime results in shorter setup times. Detailed device diagnostics reduce down times. HMI with integrated operator panel The operator panel of the C7 devices permits versatile HMI functions: Operating messages and fault messages provide operators with important information on the current process sequences, e.g. for troubleshooting or also as maintenance information. Display of process images: Pixel graphic displays enable representation of the monitored machine close to reality. To permit rapid recognition of process data, they can be displayed e.g. as bars, curves or status graphs. 6 Expansion options Different versions with graded performance power and the comprehensive SIMATIC S7-300 module range the SIMATIC C7 to the task in hand. If tasks become more sophisticated, the control systems can be retrofitted at any time using additional modules (FM, CP, I/O). Direct expansion The all-in-one control systems C7-613, C7-635 and C7-636 can be expanded by up to four S7-300 modules directly on the rear panel of the C7 system. Two I/O expansion sets are available for this, so that deep expansion is possible with up to four modules and slim expansion with up to two modules. An interface module (IM) is not required. The compact format is thus retained. External expansion is alternatively possible with up to four S7-300 modules using a 1.5 m long I/O cable. An interface module (IM) is not required here either. In addition, the 1.5 m long I/O cable permits greater mechanical freedom in the format. 7 Expansion with interface modules Special interface modules permit additional expansions with I/Os: Interface module IM 621 The C7 systems C7-621/C7-621 ASi can be expanded with up to four SIMATIC S7-300 modules using the IM 621 interface module. Interface module IM 360/361 To permit implementation of individual solutions, the all-in-one control systems C7-633, C7-634, C7-635 and C7-636 can also be expanded by up to 24 SIMATIC S7-300 modules via the IM 360/IM 361. Up to 8 modules can be inserted per rack. The PROFIBUS with its comprehensive range of I/Os can of course also be used for distributed expansion also in the S7-300 design in the case of the ET200M (see page 8). 8 Communication using MPI, DP and ASi Integrated communications MPI The multipoint interface is a communications interface integrated in SIMATIC C7. Use this interface to establish elementary networks. The MPI allows several programming units, operator panels, S7-300 and S7-400 to be connected simultaneously: up to 32 MPI participants up to 4 communications channels per CPU transmission rate is kbit/s The "Global Data Communications" service allows CPUs incorporated in the network to exchange data cyclically without the need for additional software programs PROFIBUS DP The all-in-one control systems C7-633 DP, C7-634 DP, C7-635 and C7-636 are available with an integral PROFIBUS DP interface. ASi (with C7621 ASi) The actuator/sensor interface (AS-Interface) is a networking system for binary sensors and actuators in the field. 9 Software development with STEP7 and ProTool/WinCC flexible SIMATIC industrial software With SIMATIC C7, you work with the STEP 7 and ProTool software tools from the range of SIMATIC industrial software. SIMATIC industrial software is managed centrally and possesses a wide range of matched tools. This means that the software is absolutely uniform throughout the complete project: for configuration of the hardware and communication, for programming, testing and commissioning, up to documentation. All data are only entered once using a standardized HMI. Contextbased help functions mean you don t need to search in the manual. Configuration, programming, commissioning and documentation with STEP 7 STEP 7 has the appropriate function for each task to be solved using the PLC; you can swap between the STL, LAD and FBD programming languages as desired. The STEP 7 instruction set means that even complex functions are simple to program. There are two versions for selection. Beginners in the STEP 7 environment should preferably use the low-cost software version STEP 7 Lite. The STEP 7 basic package is correct for all others also because it permits use of application-oriented engineering tools. The tool for HMI: ProTool ProTool/Lite, ProTool, ProTool/Pro or WinCC flexible are used to configure the HMI functionalities of the SIMATIC C7 system, and are optimally incorporated in STEP 7.
