5 the third leading cause of permanent disability in industrialized nations. Acute stroke care requires not only a rapid assessment, but a comprehensive and systematic approach. It is well established that treatment with IV tpa within 4.5 hours increases the likelihood of survival and substantial recovery compared to no treatment. Unfortunately, many stroke patients do not have access to a comprehensive stroke unit or IV tpa. The use of teleneurology has significant implications for the treatment of stroke in community based hospital systems as it allows for quick diagnosis, rapid initiation of treatment with IV tpa and successful transfer to a stroke center for further intervention, care and surveillance. 12/2010 Role of Telmisartan in an Ischemic Stroke Model, Neurosurgery Summer Research 2010, Neurosurgery, UTHSCSA, San Antonio, TX (Co-Author) Details: Neurosurgery Summer Medical Student Research 2010 poster presentation. 07/2010 Acute Stroke Update, Baptist Health System/St. Lukes, Neurosurgery/Neurology, UTHSCSA, San Antoni, TX (Sole Presenter) 05/2010 Grand Rounds: Extending Time Windows for the Treatment of Acute Stroke Patients with Advanced Neuroimaging, Valley Baptist Hospital/Harlingen,TX, Harlingen, TX, Grand Rounds Valley Baptist Health, Harlingen, TX (Invited Speaker) Details: Grand Rounds at Valley Baptist in Harlingen,TX 05/2010 Vascular Conference, Neurosurgery Conference, Neurosurgery, UTHSCSA, San Antonio, TX (Invited Speaker) 04/2010 Neuroanatomy: Chapter 14: The Blood Supply of the Central Nervous System, Neurosurgery Conference, Department, UTHSCSA, San Antonio, TX (Sole Presenter) 04/2010 Grand Rounds: Extending Time Windows for the Treatment of Acute Stroke Patients w/advanced Neuroimaging, Neurosurgery Conference, Department, UTHSCSA, San Antonio, TX (Sole Presenter) 03/2010 Cerebral Vascular, Neurosurgery Conference Meeting, Neurosurgery, UTHSCSA, San Antonio, TX (Sole Presenter) 01/2010 Peripheral Vascular, Baptist Health System 13th Annual Conference, Peripheral Vascular, Baptist Health System, San Antonio, TX (Invited Speaker) Details: 13th Annual Peripheral Vascular/Baptist Health System. 11/2009 SOC Teleneurology,Baptist Brain, & Stroke Network, Uvalde Physician Seminar, Baptist Health System, Uvalde Memorial Hospital, San Antonio, TX (Invited Speaker) Details: Stroke Presentation at Uvalde Physician Meeting. 11/2009 Stroke Presentation, Emergency Physician Meeting, Baptist Health System, San Antonio, TX (Invited Speaker) Details: Stroke presentation to the Baptist ER physician. 10/2009 Vascular, Neurosurgery Conference, Neurosurgery, UTHSCSA, San Antonio, TX (Sole Presenter) Details: Department of Neurosurgery Conference; Vascular Conference.
