1 Rules for computer use at Åva Gymnasium In order to have a well-functioning computer use at the school. Ethical requirements are placed on users. The requirements are no different from other requirements that are placed on citizens in a modern society. The rules below apply, in the appropriate parts, irrespective of how you gain access to the network and the Vklass (intranet). Who may use Åva Gymnasium s computers, network and the intranet? In order to use your laptop and gain access to Åva Gymnasium s computers, network and intranet, you must be actively studying at Åva Gymnasium as well as have a signed agreement for the loan of your laptop. Computers, network and intranet are intended for use: during activities related to teaching as a tool for performing schoolwork for information retrieval for increasing knowledge and expertise Åva Gymnasium considers it unethical when someone: attempts to gain access to network resources without having the right to do so attempts to conceal their user identity attempts to disturb or discontinue the intended use of the computers, network and intranet waste available resources (personnel, storage, hardware, software, paper or other equipment) attempts to damage or destroy computer-based information infringes the private lives of others. attempts to insult, humiliate or violate others without permission attempts to provide public network services, e.g., connection to network - wireless network and server - web, game and file sharing servers uses the computers for gaming when not required during a teaching situation Responsibilities You will use your own name and take responsibility for your actions and opinions. You are solely responsible for everything that is done with your user identity. This means, among other things, that you can be made accountable for what is stored on your laptop, is kept in your account (H:), sent mail and in the intranet. Excuses such as, I didn t know that and nobody told me that, do not protect you from personal responsibility. You shall keep up-to-date with applicable rules and regulations. You shall use the Täby municipality s and your account when you send which concerns schoolwork. You are responsible for following the rules on permissible use, ethical rules and applicable safety rules. 1

2 To choose and protect your password The password may not be a word from a dictionary and shall be changed frequently. A good password should be a long word, deliberately misspelt and interspersed with numerals or special characters. Made-up words can also be good. The password shall be easy for you to remember so that you do not need to write it down. You shall password protect: Your account school account which provides access to mail and the intranet Your laptop Logging of traffic By being allowed to log in to the school s computers, network and intranet, you agree to internet traffic being recorded and to the records being monitored. The Täby municipality s IT department and personnel at the school have the opportunity to examine your home directory (H:). If these rules are broken Those who infringe or are suspected of infringing upon the rules stated above can be suspended. In addition, disciplinary or legal measures can be taken. Serious infringements will be reported to the police. 2

3 Agreement for the loan of a computer for students at Åva Gymnasium Introduction For all subjects, it is essential that you master modern presentation techniques and information retrieval. Virtually all relevant and modern medias are linked to computers and the internet. Åva Gymnasium loans computers to every student. The computers are at the disposal of the students around the clock, all year round. The computers shall be used as a tool for the students education at school as well as at home. By signing this agreement, you are obligated to comply with the applicable rules for computer use and loan of teaching materials that apply at Åva Gymnasium, Täby municipality. Care and usage The computer is personal and it is not permissible to lend it to anyone else. You are responsible for the use and transportation of the computer in such a way that it will not be damaged or be placed at risk of being lost. During transfer between, for example, different classrooms, the computer shall be turned off. You must put a lock on your locker. The computer shall always be taken home at the end of the school day. The computer shall be taken to Åva each school day and shall be charged at the beginning of the school day. The computer will be open for your own programme installations. It is forbidden to install another operating system than the one that is already preinstalled. The software that is included in the computer s basic installation may not be uninstalled. You are responsible for the equipment not being used in a way that conflicts with the applicable legislation, for example, through downloading of copyright protected materials. You are personally responsible for that which is stored on the computer make sure that backup copies are made or that it is saved in another place. You are responsible for the equipment being used in accordance with the applicable rules for computer use at Åva Gymnasium. Personnel at the school have the right to examine your computer during random inspections. 3

4 Insurance The computer is covered by comprehensive insurance, which means that the insurance compensates sudden and unforeseen physical damage to the computer. The insurance protection applies during the entire day, both in and outside of school. This generally implies that normal care must be taken for compensation to be approved. A computer is prone to theft and is easily damaged. Take heed, therefore, to the information below in order to avoid damage that is not covered by the insurance. Never leave your computer out of sight, in or outside of school. For theft, normal care is always required, taking into consideration that the product is prone to theft. In the event of theft, this must always be reported to the police and the report provided to the insurance company. Never leave your computer inside a car, irrespective of whether it is visible or not, or whether there is only a small risk of break-in. When your computer is both being used and not, place it where the risk that it will be damaged is minimal. Unfortunately, a fall to the ground often results in the computer being damaged. Therefore, never place the computer where there is an obvious risk of it falling to the ground or where someone may step on it. A computer shall never be placed on a bed or on the floor without a protective case. When the computer is closed, ensure that there are no loose objects, such as a pen, lying between the lid and the keyboard. If the computer is damaged, lost or stops working, you shall follow the stated procedure for service or repair. If the computer is damaged or lost, due to lack of care, you are liable for replacing it. The insurance excess is SEK 750 and is paid by you or your family/caregiver. Termination of the contract The school may terminate the contract in the following cases: if you violate the regulations in accordance with this agreement if you repeat a school year if you take approved leave from studies (e.g., study abroad) The agreement ceases to apply when you finish school Return of the computer Upon the termination of the agreement, you are to arrange for the return of the equipment to a location stated by the school. The equipment shall be in the same condition as when it was delivered normal wear excluded. Upon the termination of the agreement (when you finish third year), you will receive an offer for purchase of the computer. Breach of this agreement A breach of this agreement, will result in an annulment of the agreement. 4
