1 WINE LIST INTRODUCTION We are pleased to introduce our 2016 wine list. As always, we have listened to our customers feedback, sampled a wide range of wines (this was particularly challenging!) and of course worked closely with our wine suppliers to provide a wine list which befits Langley Castle and the cuisine served in the award winning Josephine Restaurant. Our intention is to offer uncompromising quality at affordable prices and we really do feel that these wines deliver on all counts. The New World continues to offer some of the best value for money, with South America especially, providing quality wines at affordable prices. As ever, Australia and South Africa are producing consistently high standards of wine. And let s not forget the Old World classics, which are still the reliable, quality benchmark for many wine lovers. France continues to produce an abundance of stunning wines to suit all palates, while Italy and Spain are enjoying a real resurgence. So whether you re here on business, for a celebration or just for pleasure, we are confident that you will find a wine to complement the occasion. Medium-bodied with a concentrated mid-palate and a long, fresh finish. 14 Weinhaus Ress Riesling 2014 BALTHASAR RESS, RHEINGAU, GERMANY Crisp, medium-bodied dry Riesling, with lemon, lime and apple fruit flavours, a floral lift and a clean finish. 19 Wooded Chenin Blanc Kanu 2014 STELLENBOSCH, SOUTH AFRICA Big, full-bodied Chenin, combining ripe peach and apricot fruit with the honey and spice of barrel fermentation, and cut with a green apple freshness. 21 Mas des Bressades 2014 COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES, LANGUEDOC ROUSSILLON, This captivating blend of local grape varieties offers aromas of ripe fruit and summer flowers, satisfying weight on the mid-palate, then a crisp mineral finish. 23 Coopers Creek SV Bell Ringer Albarino, Gisborne 2014 COOPERS CREEK, GISBORNE, NEW ZEALAND New Zealand s first Albariño is an exuberant, zesty affair, brimming with white peach and melon fruit, reined in by the grape s typical citrus/mineral character

The palate is rich and spicy but still retains a seam of elegance and a long, poised finish. 32 Castel Firmian Teroldego, Mezzacorona 2014 MEZZACORONA, TRENTINO-ALTO ADIGE, ITALY Wild berries and savoury spice characterise this round, fruit-driven introduction to the local grape Teroldego. Complete and velvety in the mouth, with a juicy freshness. 34 Pèppoli Chianti Classico 2012 MARCHESI ANTINORI, TUSCANY, ITALY Intense red fruit aromas are offset by delicate notes of vanilla and chocolate. Pleasantly lingering with a fresh, vibrant feel in the mouth. 40 Rioja Cantos de Valpiedra 2012 SPAIN An intense aroma combining ripe sloes and black fruit with a mineral lift and cigar box/vanilla notes from the oak. Silky-textured and fresh in the mouth, with ample fruit fleshing out the supple structure. 43 Merlot Casa Lapostolle 2013 RAPEL VALLEY, CHILE Elegant, complex and aromatic on the nose, full of red fruit and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with an elegant, juicy mouthfeel; long and round on the finish. 49 Mount Holdsworth Pinot Noir, Wairarapa 2014 MOUNT HOLDSWORTH, WAIRARAPA, NEW ZEALAND An exuberantly fruity Pinot Noir that offers bright strawberry and cherry aromas, as well as a finely etched medium-bodied palate of satisfying structure and length Rosé Wine 125ml 175ml Bottle 57 Côtes de Provence Rosé Carte Noire 2014 MAÎTRES VIGNERONS DE ST TROPEZ, Very refined dry rosé, with an attractive floral aroma, redcurrant fruit, and excellent length in the mouth Dessert Wine Glass Bottle 58 Muscat de Frontignan ml CHÂTEAU DE STONY, LANGUEDOC ROUSSILLON, Sweet and highly perfumed with lovely honey and orange marmalade fruits. Rich and floral on the finish. 59 Pineau des Charentes Rouge 5 years old 50ml 3.95 CHATEAU DE BEAULON, Fresh, frank, supple, with notes of black cherry in alcohol, blackcurrant, red rose, perfect harmony of fruity strength and mellowness. Delicious.

4 WHITE WINE 125ml 175ml Bottle PINOT GRIGIO - PINOT GRIS - PINOT BLANC 1 Castel Firmian Pinot Grigio 2014/15 MEZZACORONA, TRENTINO, ITALY Very clean, nicely balanced Pinot Grigio, with a gentle floral aroma, good medium weight in the mouth, and a refreshing finish. 2 Pinot Blanc 2012 RENÉ MURÉ, Crisp and aromatic, with a fresh floral aroma, lovely balance and weight in the mouth, and gently peachy fruit. 3 The Pointer Pinot Gris Coopers Creek 2014 MARLBOROUGH, NEW ZEALAND This Pinot Gris stands out for its fulsome spicy pear flavours, really capturing the essence of the variety. The palate is richly textured but never heavy, with finesse CHARDONNAY 4 Deakin Estate Chardonnay 2014/15 DEAKIN ESTATE, VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA This Chardonnay shows aromas of ripe pear, nectarine and apple. The palate is ripe and smooth with delicious fruit character without being over the top. 5 Mâcon-Villages Domaine Chenevrières 2012 GEORGES DUBOEUF, BURGUNDY, Beautiful honeysuckle aromas on the nose and a soft, rounded palate with notes of red. 6 Founders Block, Chardonnay 2013 KATNOOK ESTATE, COONAWARRA, SOUTH AUSTRALIA This stylish Chardonnay offers subtle peach and nectarine aromas offset by some grapefruit zing and a touch of toast. The palate is dry and refreshing, with a rounded mid-palate and an elegant finish. 11 Sauvignon Blanc Casa Lapostolle 2014 RAPEL VALLEY, CHILE Elegant aromas of citrus and tropical fruits with a touch of minerality. Medium-bodied with a concentrated mid-palate and a long, fresh finish. 12 Mount Holdsworth Sauvignon Blanc, Wairarapa 2014 MOUNT HOLDSWORTH, WAIRARAPA, NEW ZEALAND This North Island Sauvignon marries the variety s typical zesty, grassy aroma to real texture and succulence. Green apple and passion fruit flavours turn crisp and mineral on the finish. 13 Sancerre Le Mont, Foucher Lebrun 2014 FOUCHER LEBRUN, LOIRE, Crisp, flavoursome Sancerre which offers floral and boxwood aromas. The palate shows juicy citrus fruit alongside the trademark elegance and minerality of the appellation RIESLING - GRUNER VELTINER 14 Weinhaus Ress Riesling 2014 BALTHASAR RESS, RHEINGAU, GERMANY Crisp, medium-bodied dry Riesling, with lemon, lime and apple fruit flavours, a floral lift and a clean finish. 15 Firestone Riesling, Central Coast 2013 FIRESTONE, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES Exuding aromas of nectarine, mandarin, jasmine, lemon and lime zest, and honey, this wine has achieved the perfect balance between crisp acidity and soft sweetness. 16 Gruner Vetliner Kamptaler Terrassen 2013 WEINGUT PETER SCHWEIGER, KAMPTAL, AUSTRIA From the terraced slopes for which Kamptal is famous, this is a savoury, serious style, with extra layers of spice and concentration. Impressive stuff. 17 Riesling Clos Saint Landelin 2009/ RENE MURE, GRAND CRU VORBOURG, This renowned vineyard produces dry Riesling of great character, layering concentrated lime juice with warm minerality, rich yet incisive on the palate CHENIN BLANC - MUSCADET 18 Muscadet sur Lie Carte d Or 2014 SAUVION & FILS, SÈVRE-ET-MAINE, LOIRE VALLEY, Bright aromas of apple and lemon peel with some minerality. Silky and smooth on the palate with well-balanced flavours and a long finish. 21 Mas des Bressades 2014 COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES, LANGUEDOC ROUSSILLON, This captivating blend of local grape varieties offers aromas of ripe fruit and summer flowers, satisfying weight on the mid-palate, then a crisp mineral finish. 22 Finca Montepedroso Rueda 2013 FINCA MONTEPEDROSO, CASTILLA Y LEON, SPAIN A vivid expression of the Verdejo grape, with its characteristic notes of fennel, green apple, cut hay and peach, this wine is also imbued with an extra depth and richness in the mouth. Fresh and dry, this is particularly characterful Gavi. 25 Vermentino di Bolgheri 2014 GUADO AL TASSO, FAMIGLIA ANTINORI, BOLGHIERI DOC, ITALY This shows the combination of crispness and breadth that marks Vermentino, with engaging citrus flavours and a long mineral finish. 26 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 2013 DOMAINE DE BEAURENARD, RHONE VALLEY, An excellent example of white Châteauneuf: gently aromatic, with notes of pears, apricots, hawthorn and fennel, then round and textured in the mouth, with a seam of minerality providing focus

7 RED WINE 125ml 175ml Bottle SYRAH - SHIRAZ - GRENACHE 27 Finca La Colonia Syrah, Norton 2015 BODEGA NORTON, MENDOZA, ARGENTINA Delightfully fresh, juicy Syrah, with an aromatic peppery-floral nose leading to a palate full of berry fruit, finishing crisp rather than heavy. 28 Finca Antigua Garnacha 2011 LA MANCHA, SPAIN High aromatic intensity with initial hints of mineral, violets and ripe red berries. Notes of Indian ink and subtle nuances of new oak, tobacco and breadcrumbs. Extraordinarily long. ITALIAN RED GRAPE VARIETIES 32 Castel Firmian Teroldego, Mezzacorona MEZZACORONA, TRENTINO-ALTO ADIGE, ITALY Wild berries and savoury spice characterise this round, fruit-driven introduction to the local grape Teroldego. Complete and velvety in the mouth, with a juicy freshness. 33 Sabazio Rosso di Montepulciano 2014 LA BRACCESCA, FAMIGLIA ANTINORI, TUSCANY, ITALY Earlier-drinking than its big brother, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, this offers bright red berry and floral aromas, a medium-bodied palate and a long mineral finish. 34 Pèppoli Chianti Classico 2012 MARCHESI ANTINORI, TUSCANY, ITALY Intense red fruit aromas are offset by delicate notes of vanilla and chocolate. Pleasantly lingering with a fresh, vibrant feel in the mouth. 35 Barolo 2011 ALFREDO PRUNOTTO, PIEDMONT, ITALY Complex nose with notes of rose, strawberry and forest fruits. Delicately floral, perfumed yet persistent on the palate, this is Barolo at its best. 36 Brunello di Montalcino 2010 PIAN DELLE VIGNE, FAMIGLIA ANTINORI, TUSCANY, ITALY Complex, generous nose with ripe aromas of cherries and raspberries, light tobacco notes and hints of coffee and cocoa powder. Multi-layered structure with a nicely rounded texture and elegant fruit leading to a very long finish

8 RED WINE 125ml 175ml Bottle SPANISH RED GRAPE VARIETIES 37 Candidato Tinto Tempranillo 2014 VINO DE LA TIERRA DE CASTILLA, SPAIN Bursting with berry fruits (strawberry, raspberry and blackcurrant), and a creamy note on the nose. Full-bodied and fresh with hints of candy, and a long, complex finish. 38 Finca el Paso 2013 JUMILLA, SPAIN Bright, juicy fruit with the depth and power of old vines: Monastrell gives the blueberry fruit and aromas of leather and spice, while Syrah adds some floral top-notes. 39 El Pajaro Rojo, Bierzo 2013 LOSADA, CASTILLA Y LEON, SPAIN Beautifully aromatic nose of juicy red fruits and the distinctive violet notes of the Mencía variety. The palate is full and fruit-driven, with lots of mineral lift. A really characterful expression of this unique grape. 40 Rioja Cantos de Valpiedra 2012 SPAIN An intense aroma combining ripe sloes and black fruit with a mineral lift and cigar box/vanilla notes from the oak. Silky-textured and fresh in the mouth, with ample fruit fleshing out the supple structure. 41 Finca Valpiedra Rioja Reserva 2008 SPAIN That rare thing: a single-vineyard Rioja, giving an excellent expression of the fruit with fine nuances of dark berries perfectly combined with the smokiness provided by the ageing in French oak barrels. Round and full-bodied with an elegant, ripe structure and a long, silky, persistent finish. CABERNET SAUVIGNON - MERLOT & BLENDS 42 Quercus Cabernet Merlot 2013 QUERCUS, GORIZIA, SLOVENIA Fruity bouquet of blackcurrant, strawberry bush and plum, leading to a smooth, full-bodied palate with a long finish. 43 Merlot Casa Lapostolle 2013 RAPEL VALLEY, CHILE Elegant, complex and aromatic on the nose, full of red fruit and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with an elegant, juicy mouthfeel; long and round on the finish. 44 Château Lalande de Gravet 2012 SAINT EMILION GRAND CRU, BORDEAUX, Delicious and ripe with plum and redcurrant fruit allied to a fruitcake-style richness Katnook Estate Cabernet Sauvignon KATNOOK ESTATE, SOUTH AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA This superb Coonawarra Cabernet sings with ripe blackcurrant, mulberry and mint. Toast and chocolate notes add complexity, while the palate shows developing flavours of cedar, vanilla and berries. Classically proportioned yet full of ripe fruit. 46 Château Batailley, Pauillac 2007 CHÂTEAU BATAILLEY, BORDEAUX, Brilliant and vibrant. It has lovely fresh blackcurrants on the nose and fine raspberry and blackberry fruit on the palate, mingling harmoniously with an earthy minerality

9 RED WINE 125ml 175ml Bottle PINOT NOIR - GAMAY - CABERNET FRANC 47 Casa Valduga Raizes Cabernet Franc 2011 /12 CASA VALDUGA, BRAZIL A fascinating example of Cabernet Franc showing red fruits, strawberry and cherries well matched with spices; soft yet refreshing on the palate. 48 Brouilly Château de la Perrière 2013 GEORGES DUBOEUF, BURGUNDY, This juicy Brouilly shows a fine spectrum of fruit, especially raspberries, Morello cherries and blackcurrants. There is some typical Brouilly power on the palate, but a good deal of finesse as well. 49 Mount Holdsworth Pinot Noir, Wairarapa 2014 MOUNT HOLDSWORTH, WAIRARAPA, NEW ZEALAND An exuberantly fruity Pinot Noir that offers bright strawberry and cherry aromas, as well as a finely etched medium-bodied palate of satisfying structure and length. 50 Savigny-Lès-Beaune 2010 DOMAINE TOLLOT BEAUT, BURGUNDY, Delicate berry aromas with a rewarding, open, medium bodied, raspberry palate and just the right acidity and decent lasting finish. 51 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 2008 Henri de Villamont, Burgundy, France An elegant style of Gevrey from a well-situated single vineyard, offering a beguiling blend of red and black berry fruit, a juicy texture, and a hint of earthy complexity. 52 Freestone Vineyards Pinot Noir, Joseph Phelps 2011 JOSEPH PHELPS, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES A complex, textural Pinot Noir that offers aromas of cherry, raspberry, anise and tea leaves, along with a tangerine brightness that expresses the wine s coastal origins. The palate is generous yet finely structured, with good capacity to age MALBEC 53 Château Haut Monplaisir Tradition 2012 CAHORS, SOUTH WEST, This wine shows the classic Malbec characterics: deep plum and berry aromas, with some leafy brightness, and a rich, appetising palate that blends fruit with mineral and tobacco notes. 54 Malbec Reserva 2012 BODEGA NORTON, ARGENTINA Round and velvety, with flavours of ripe black fruit, violets, spices and tobacco. Long and complex on the finish

Medium bodied and easy-drinking with a dry and refreshing finish. 56 Cipresseto Rosato di Toscana 2014 MARCHESI ANTINORI, TUSCANY, ITALY One of Tuscany s original rosés, Cipresseto shows a delightful mid-pink colour, aromas of blackcurrant and cherry, and an attractive crisp balance. 57 Côtes de Provence Rosé Carte Noire 2014 MAÎTRES VIGNERONS DE ST TROPEZ, Very refined dry rosé, with an attractive floral aroma, redcurrant fruit, and excellent length in the mouth DESSERT WINE Glass Bottle 58 Muscat de Frontignan 2014 CHÂTEAU DE STONY, LANGUEDOC ROUSSILLON, Sweet and highly perfumed with lovely honey and orange marmalade fruits. Rich and floral on the finish. 59 Pineau des Charentes Rouge 5 years old 50ml 3.95 CHATEAU DE BEAULON, Fresh, frank, supple, with notes of black cherry in alcohol, blackcurrant, red rose, perfect harmony of fruity strength and mellowness. Delicious. 60 Château Jolys Cuvée Jean 2011 JURANÇON, SOUTH WEST, Lusciously rich with a nose of exotic fruits, peaches, pineapple and white flowers. The palate is powerful and smooth, with the same aromas and complexity as the nose. Pure, elegant and very well-balanced. 61 Tokaji 5 Puttonyos, Sauska 2002 SAUSKA, TOKAJ, HUNGARY An exceptional Tokaji, opulently flavoured yet still so fresh and youthful, with aromas of fig, honey, dried peach, marmalade and caramel. Intense sweetness is balanced by brilliant citrussy acidity; the wine finishes tangy and whistle-clean. 125ml

Lightly biscuity on the palate, with great freshness and purity. 68 Billecart Salmon, Brut Reserve, NV The aromas are chiefly characterized by pear and blackberry, with hints of cut hay. Light and refined with a touch of citrus on the finish. 69 Pol Roger, Brut Reserve, NV With its fresh summer fruit flavours and tiny, persistent mousse, Pol Roger is one of the most easily-enjoyed well-made NV champagnes around. 70 Veuve Clicquot, Yellow Label, NV A subtle and classic Champagne, buttery and dry with a fine mouse. 71 Laurent-Perrier Rosé, NV This wine has a coral pink colour and faint strawberry flavour which stems from the Pinot Noir skins, delicately staining the juice. 72 Billecart Salmon, Brut Rosé, NV A subtle aroma leading to an elegant, delicate bouquet of fine notes of red fruits.
