2 OHL PRIORITY SELECTION OHL Priority Selection Process In 2001, the Ontario Hockey League conducted the annual Priority Selection process by way of the Internet for the first time in league history. The new process allowed for eligible players and their families, as well as fans across the league to follow the process in real time online. The 2013 OHL Priority Selection will once again be conducted online on Saturday April 6, 2013 beginning at 9:00 a.m. You can follow the entire process online at Player Eligibility North American players born between January 1, 1994 and December 31, 1997 from protected OHL territories are eligible for selection in the 15 rounds of the 2013 OHL Priority Selection. Selected Players in the OHL OHL Member Teams are permitted to register a maximum of four 16 year old players selected in the OHL Priority Selection. Those 16 year old players that are allowed to be signed are the first two 16 year old players selected and a maximum addition of two 16 year old wild carded players in any round of the OHL Priority Selection. All other 16-year-old players selected are eligible to be called up as an affiliated player or floating affiliate player for a maximum of 10 games or for any OHL regular season or playoff games when such player s team has been eliminated from competition for that season. Order of Selection The order of selection is determined by inverse order of finish during the past OHL regular season schedule of games with non-playoff teams selecting ahead of playoff teams. Teams are permitted to trade draft choices, other than their first round selection, during the trading period from Monday April 1 to Thursday April 4, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. OHL Central Scouting The Central Scouting Bureau of the Ontario Hockey League is an information service and support organization designed to provide the Member Teams with a reference in regards to the players available for selection in the annual Priority Selection Process. The primary objective of OHL Central Scouting is to identify, rate and rank players to be eligible for the Priority Selection, according to their OHL potential. OHL Member Teams combine player data received from the Central Scouting Bureau with evaluations from their team scouting staffs to make their player selections. The OHL Central Scouting Bureau has been evaluating players since the season. 3 OHL Scholarship Program Once a player graduates from the OHL, he will receive a minimum scholarship of tuition, textbooks and compulsory fees towards an undergraduate degree for each year played in the Ontario Hockey League. Photos: Aaron Bell/OHL The OHL Scholarship can be applied to a program that is different than a traditional university or college four-year undergraduate degree / diploma program such as a Technical or Trade School, Firefighting or EMS. The OHL Scholarship Program is administered through the league office. Other scholarship criteria to note: At the conclusion of a player s junior eligibility the player has 18 months to access his scholarship therefore allowing him to play minor professional hockey. A player s scholarship may be utilized at any recognized university/college in the world. He is a prototypical Power Forward. The best part of Mike's game is his physical play. He has the ability to throw punishing hits in all three zones. Mike has a pretty good skill set and his team relies on him to chip in offensively as well. He scores the majority of his goals in the dirty areas of the ice. He drives the net hard for rebounds and pass and has good hands in tight to be able to finish his scoring chances. As he fills out and gets stronger things will all come together. AuSTIN CLAPHAM D Mississauga Rebels Ht: 6.01 Wt: 190 lbs 7/9/1997 Home: Scouting Report: Austin is a defensemen who has a lot of potential to be a very good player at the next level. He is used in all situations by his coaching staff. He makes a good first pass out of his end and has the ability to make good passes in transition as well. Austin has one of the best shots from the point of any defensemen in this years draft. It s very hard and he has the ability to get it off quickly without getting blocked. He is very agile on his skates and moves well in all directions. Overall Austin is a defensemen that is going to be able to play a lot of minutes in the future. NICK BOKA D Detroit Compuware Ht: 6.01 Wt: 185 lbs 9/8/1997 Home: Plymouth, MI Scouting Report: Nick is a very punishing and tough stay at home defensemen. His biggest attribute is his physical play. He doesn't think twice about hitting an opponent into the boards no matter how big or small they are. Nick has above average puck skills and when he keeps the game simple with the puck he is very effective. He is a very powerful skater in every direction and uses his skating ability very effectively to close gaps and to take the body all over the ice. Overall Nick is the type of defensemen that will help most every team win a championship. austin Clapham KYLE CAPOBIANCO D Oakville Rangers Ht: 5.11 Wt: 163 lbs 8/13/1997 Home: Mississauga, ON Scouting Report: Kyle is a very smooth skating offensive minded defenseman. He is the type of D-man that loves to have the puck on his stick and is very dangerous when he has. Kyle is always looking to join the rush and create scoring from the back end. He is very smart and understands when the right time to jump up into the rush is and when he should just stay back. Kyle has very good puck skills which allows him to beat other player one on one. He does a very good job of placing his shots and seems to get a good percentage of his shots on the net. MARCuS CRAWFORD D South Central Coyotes Ht: 5.10 Wt: 178 lbs 3/21/1997 Home: Ajax, ON Scouting Report: Marcus is a highly skilled offensive defensemen. He has the ability to do a lot of things that most defensemen at his age can't do. He has great puck skills and does a great job on the offensive end of his game. He has a very good shot from the point - it's accurate, he gets it off very quickly and rarely does he have it blocked. Marcus doesn't engage physically very often he prefers to stay on the right side of the puck and wait for a player to bobble it and then he jumps on puck. Brydges, ON marcus Crawford Scouting Report: Lawson is a very intimidating player on the ice because of his size, skating ability and skill. He is one the best wingers in this years draft and he can impact a game in a number of ways. He has everything you would ask for in a power forward - he has very good hands for a player of his stature, he is a very strong skater with a long stride that will only get better as he gets stonger and his strides become more powerful. He has a very high skill level that combined with his skating and speed made him very hard to handle for an opposing defender. He has a junior level shot already in a number of ways - release, accuracy and speed. He lost part of the season to mono and that affected his second half. He is a natural goal scorer who can be deadly at any time during the game. He has good size and skates well with a powerful stride. Michael only needs a couple of chances to score and can be a gamebreaker in tight checking game. sean Day CHRISTIAN EvERS D Omaha Lancers Ht: 6.02 Wt: 190 lbs 5/25/1997 Home: Waukee, Iowa Scouting Report: Christian is a Solid stay at home defensemen that can chip in occasionally offensively. He makes for a very intimidating presence on the blueline. Christian has above average puck skills which allow him to make good passes in all three zones. He has a very heavy shot from the point and moves very well for a player of his stature. He has good mobility and rarely gets beat wide. He is at his best when he keeps the game simple by moving the puck up ice and playing solid defense. Christian has a high compete level and seems to really enjoy the physical side of the game. SEAN DAY D Detroit Compuware Ht: 6.01 Wt:180 lbs 1/9/1998 Home: Scouting Report: Sean is a player that has the ability to bring people out of their seats when he is on the ice. He is an effortless skater with a long, powerful stride which makes him very deceiving when he is in full flight as to just how fast he is going. Sean is very explosive of the mark which allows him to get up to full speed in just a couple of strides. His mobility in all four directions is outstanding, when he pivots from backwards to forwards or vise versa he doesn't lose any of his momentum. He has very good puck skills and is able to beat an opposing player one-on-one very easily. BRENT GATES C Detroit Compuware Ht: 6.01 Wt: 176 lbs 8/12/1997 Home: Grand Rapids, MI Scouting Report: Brent is an offensive minded skilled centre that loves to have the puck on his stick. He has a very high skill level which makes him very hard to handle for the opposing team in a one-on-one situation. Brent does a very good job of placing his shots - it s not overpowering by any means but he always seems to place it exactly where he wants to. Brent is a very smart player and has the ability to play in all situations due to his understanding of the game. He has good vision and he will move the puck at the right time to his teammates to create a scoring chance. JOSH DEFARIAS D Toronto Marlboros Ht: 5.10 Wt: 163 lbs 3/28/1997 Home: Brampton, ON Scouting Report: Josh's biggest asset as a player is skating ability. He has great mobility in every direction and has the ability to lead a rush and then get back to play defense as well. He never seems to get tired because of how effortless of a skaters he is. Josh has very good puck skills and makes a good first pass to his teammates on breakouts. He also quarterbacks the powerplay for his team and makes good decisions on when to pass and when to shoot. Josh is very smart and always has the right body position on the opposition. Jordan has the ability to take over a game when he wants to and I have seen it on more then one occasion. He is a prototypical power foward - he has great size and will finish his check on a consistant basis. For a player of his stature he has exceptional hands and skills. He plays a big part in his teams success and seems to create offense most times he is on the ice. He has very good hands and is able to beat a defender with his moves. He has quick hands and is creative with the puck. Sam has a good shot and is not shy to shoot the puck whenever he has it on his stick near the net. He is a good skater and is one of the top offensively skilled players in the draft. Sam has all the tools to be a very good player at the next level. LuKE KIRWAN C Middlesex Islanders Ht: 6.01 Wt: 215 lbs 9/23/1997 Home: Dewitt, NY Scouting Report: Luke is a very physically mature player that is playing Jr hockey in the U.S. He is physically ready to step in to our league. He has very good puck skills and his best attribute is his shot - it is hard and very accurate and he releases it faster then most players already playing in our league. Luke is a very powerful skater with a good stride and is good at using his body to protect the puck in all three zones. Luke is a prototypical power forward who is at his best when he is going up and down his wing crashing and banging and creating scoring chances. TROY HENLEY D Oakville Rangers Ht: 5.11 Wt: 188 lbs 1/13/1997 Home: Oakville, ON Scouting Report: Troy is a very intimidating defenseman that can play in every situation that he is put in. He has a very hard shot and accurate shot from the point and is a very powerful skater who has great mobility in all four directions. Troy may be one of the hardest hitting defensemen in this draft and he never shies away from the rough going. He is a very effective penalty killer because of how fast he is able to take time and space away from the other team and most players can't handle being pressured like that. Troy is a player that other teams are not going to enjoy playing against. GRAHAM KNOTT LW York Simcoe Express Ht: 6.00 Wt: 160 lbs 1/13/1997 Home: Holland Landing, ON Scouting Report: Graham is a player that never takes a shift off and you know exactly what you are going to get every time out. He isn t flashy, but he is effective. Graham has a good shot which he releases fairly quick. He is a very good skater and uses his size and skating ability in all areas of the ice. Graham is a player that seems like he is not afraid of anything while he plays - he takes the puck hard to the net, finishes all of his checks in all three zones and he stands up for his teammates when called upon. Because he competes so hard he rarely loses a battle for the puck. He is a defensemen that goes underappreciated most of the time. He makes very few mistakes during the course of a game and always seems to make the obvious play which is usually the best one. Michael has very good puck skill and makes a crisp accurate first pass. He shoots the puck very well and does a good job of walking the puck to the middle of the ice to create an open lane to shoot. There are times when he does things with the puck that you can't believe he just did that and he leaves you shaking your head. Nikita has one of the top shots in the league and in every way, release, accuracy and speed and he is not shy to use his shot from anywhere on the ice. He always seems to get to loose pucks and create scoring chances for himself and his teammates. Although he a goal scorer, Nikita also has the ability to make the players around him better by giving them the puck at the right times. Overall Matthew is an electric player that is always around the puck and if he continues to develop he will make a solid top six type of forward. He has a very good shot from the point, and is an effortless skater who has excellent mobility. Tyler has all the tools to be a very good player at the next level, now all he has to do is refine them. He is one of the leaders on his team and he tends to take control while on the ice. Justin has a pretty good skill set which allows him to make a good first pass. He also transitions the puck very well in the neutral zone off of turnovers. Justin uses his big frame well to help him separate the opposition from the puck in all three zones. He has all the characteristics to be a very good shut-down defensemen and a great penalty killer as well. He is an explosive skater which allows him to close gaps and take away time and space from the opposition. He is one of the hardest hitters in this age group and does it on a consistent basis. Cameron rarely loses a battle for the puck along the wall or in front of the net. When he has time he can make a good first pass and is going to be a player that other teams best players are not going to want to play against. He has an excellent skill set and at times it seems as if the puck is on a string. He is hard to handle one-on-one because of his skill and speed. Mitchell is a very good skater with quick feet and an ability to change gears in mid stride and beat a defender. He is going to be the type of player that will put up a lot of points. He has size, skill and skates well. From the tops of the circles down in the offensive end you won't find a player that can take better control of the game when he wants to. He does a great job of protecting the puck and when he has a step on a defender he has the quickness to get to the front of the net and he the shot and skill to score goals from that area. Hayden is a huge centre that gets up and down the ice very and has the ability and quickness to beat defenders off the rush. KRIS MYLLARI D Ottawa Senators Ht: 6.01 Wt: 170 lbs 2/5/1997 Home: Kanata, ON Scouting Report: Kris is a versatile defensemen that does a lot of things very well. He has excellent mobility which allows him to log a lot of ice without looking tired. He makes a very good first pass out of his zone and also has the ability to transition quickly on a turnover in the neutral zone. Although he is not overly physical, he won't shy away from contact anywhere on the ice. Kris is used in every situation at all times of the game by his coaches. He does a good job of running the powerplay from the blueline, making good shot/pass decisions with the puck. He has a very good skill set that he uses all the time to help his team try and create offense. He has a good shot from the point, its usually low and hard. He is a good skater with excellent mobility. Garrett is a very smart defensemen, he plays a ton of minutes for his team and he has learned to pace himself and only go when the opportunity presents its self. Garrett has very good vision from the back end and distributes the puck very well in all three zones. He has a long smooth stride and is able to reach top speed quickly because of his explosiveness and strength. Brett has a good skill set and is able to beat a lot of defenders one-on-one with his speed and skill. He does a good job of protecting the puck all over the ice which makes him very hard to handle for the opposing team. He has a very good shot and sees the ice well to create scoring chances for his linemates. He is technically sound and doesn't waste a lot of movement when he is on his game. He does a very good job on his angles and when his timing is on with his butterfly he is very hard to beat, When he is on his knees his shoulders are at or near the cross bar which doesn't leave the shooter with a lot to look at. Luke is a very confident looking goalie. He is very athletic for a kid his size, controls rebounds well and has quick reflexes. Overall Luke has a very bright future if he continues to develop. You always know exactly what you are going to get from him game in game out. Ryan is an explosive skater that has the ability to hit top speed very quickly and he also has another gear that most players don't possess. Ryan has very good puck skills and is able to beat defenders with dekes and coupled that with his speed he is a very intimidating player to defend when he is coming at you. He takes a lot of chances all over the ice with and without the puck, either making a high risk pass or by pinching and trying to create a turnover. Zach has very good puck skills and he uses them in all three zones to gain an advantage on his opponent. He has the ability to beat any defender one-on-one by the way he is able to change gears in mid flight. He also has a high skill level with very quick hands. Mitchell has a great snap shot and is able to get it off very quickly. He can shoot while keeping his feet moving which is something not many kids at his age can do. Overall Mitchell has the ability to be a top six forward on any team as he matures as a hockey player. Every aspect of his game has improved - skating, puck handling etc. - and that is a big reason for his teams success at some of the major tournaments. Connor possess a very hard shot and he has the ability to get it off quickly. He is a very hard defensemen to beat one-on-one because he has very good mobility for a player of his size to go along with his long reach. Dylan is one of the best playmakers in the draft. He has the ability to get his teammates the puck in a very good position in all three zones of the ice and especially in the offensive zone. Dylan can create offense in many different ways whether its off the rush, off the cycle or on the half wall on the powerplay. He uses his size and smarts very well down low. Marie, ON Scouting Report: Blake is an entertaining player to watch because of his speed and skill level. He is one of the best skaters in the draft and he has made many a defender look as if they are standing still as he blows by them to score a goal. Blake also has great puck skills and one-on-one moves which leave you asking "did he just do that?" He has a very quick and accurate shot which he surprises a lot of goalies with because of how fast he releases it. Although Blake is used in all situations he thrives in the offensive zone - even when he is killing penalties he is looking to create offense. He is fun to watch when he has the puck on his stick as he can do a lot of things that other players can't. Ethan is a very quick skater - he jumps in and out of holes very well and is hard to handle in the offensive zone. Ethan is the kind of player that most coaches love to have on their team because he will do what ever it takes to win a hockey game.
