SV Chairman Rolf Nordahl, Ph.D., Associate Professor Administration Iben Keller Tel: Carla Townsend Sturm Tel: The Study Board for Media Technology is responsible for the bachelor and master programs within Medialogy, IT, Communication and New Media, and Service Systems Design including study curricula, study counseling, and quality assurance, as well as treatment of applications for credit and exemptions. Below you will find explanations of the applications you can make. While most requests require the support of a teacher or supervisor, the approval of a teacher or supervisor does not guarantee the Study Board s approval. The Study Board always makes the final decision. Please be aware of the support offered by the student counselors. The student counselors can offer you advice and help you in creating various applications to the Study Board. IT, Communication and New Media student counselors: Medialogy student counselors: All applications must be sent to the Study Board for Media Technology: [email protected] Merit/Credit You may apply to the Study Board to receive credit for courses you took under another education. The courses must be similar in content. Your application must include: Explanation of which courses in your current AAU education you would like to receive credit for. Explanation of how the courses you previously took cover the material taught in the corresponding AAU courses, and a copy of the course description(s)/study plan. You must highlight the relevant course description(s) A copy of your transcripts from your previous education.

2 Pre-Approval If you wish to deviate from the study structure of your degree, you must apply to the Study Board for pre-approval. See the following site for a pre-approval application form: /. You need to send an application for pre-approval for the following: Study abroad: studies abroad for the 9 th semester. External studies: studies at another Danish university for the 9 th semester. Courses in another AAU education: AAU courses outside of Medialogy/IT, Communication, and New Media/ Service Systems Design. Internship: working as an intern at a company for the 9 th semester. The focus of the internship should be working on a project which relates to your education. If you take a semester abroad or at another Danish university, you are responsible for sending the transcripts to the Study Board at the end of the semester. If you do not send the transcripts, you will not receive credit for the semester. Applications for studies abroad, external studies, and courses in another education must include: Completed pre-approval form (see above link), signed by your supervisor. Explanation of how the courses relate to and supplement the Medialogy/ IT, Communication, and New Media/ Service Systems Design education. A minimum of 15 ECTS of back-up, or Plan B, courses, in case your first choice courses are unavailable Course descriptions of the proposed and back-up courses. Applications for an internship must include: Completed pre-approval form (see above link), signed by your supervisor. Detailed explanation of what area/problem you will be working on during the internship. Explanation of how the internship relates to and supplements the Medialogy/ IT, Communications, and Media Technology/ Service Systems Design education. A contract, signed by the company, stating the conditions of the internship. See the following website for information on internship contracts: irksomhed/

3 Dispensation/Exemptions You need to send an application to the Study Board for exemption to the following rules: 4 th attempt: you may use three attempts at a course and/or project exam without requiring exemption. However, if you do not pass in your first three attempts, you must apply for exemption for a 4 th attempt. 5 th attempt: similar to above, you need another exemption from the Study Board if you require a 5 th attempt at a course and/or project exam. However, 5 th attempts are only granted in exceptional cases, for example a death in the immediate family or a severe illness documented by a doctor s letter. 24 month rule: the 24 month rule stipulates that you cannot be enrolled in the 5th semester if you have unfinished exams from the 1 st semester, nor can you be enrolled in the 6 th semester if you have unfinished exams from the 2 nd semester. You can apply to the Study Board to be exempt from this rule, thus allowing you to continue on the 5 th /6 th semester while still having unfinished exam(s) on the 1 st /2 nd semester. Semester control rue: the semester control rule stipulates that you must pass certain parts of the education in order to be registered for the respective semesters. You can apply to the Study Board to be exempt from this rule, thus allowing you to, for example, continue on the 6 th semester while still having unfinished courses on the 3 rd semester. 4 Admission to the Master s before finishing the bachelor s: if you have not passed all of your exams from the bachelor degree, you must apply to the Study Board for an exemption if you wish to start on the Master s degree. If granted an exemption, you must pass all of the remaining Bachelor exams by the end completing 30 ECTS of Master s level activities. It is not possible to be enrolled past 30 ECTS of the Master s degree while missing Bachelor exams. Deadline for semester project/bachelor project: if you do not hand in your semester project/bachelor project by the hand-in deadline, you use an exam attempt. If you wish to receive an extension to the project hand-in, you must apply to the Study Board. The application must the submitted at least two weeks before the original deadline. Deadline for Master s thesis: if you do not hand in your Master s thesis by the hand-in deadline, the Study Board will, in collaboration with your thesis supervisor, create a revised problem statement and you use an exam attempt. You will have three months from the original hand-in date to turn in your revised thesis. You can apply for an extension to the first hand-in date through the Study Board. The latest possible date for the extended hand-in is the last weekday in July. The application must the submitted at least two weeks before the original deadline. The extension allows you to not use an exam attempt, nor will you have to work with a revised problem statement. Applications for exemption for a 4 th attempt, 5 th attempt, 24 month rule, and admission to the Master s must include: Explanation of the conditions resulting in the failure to pass the exam in the initial attempts. Explanation for how the conditions have changed. You should make an argument, supported with examples, of why you can now pass the exam, whereas in the past you were unable to. A signed study plan and explanation of deviations, if present (the study plan is signed by the student counselor, who will also help preparing the application). Argument for passing the exam. Documentation for participation in the course a second time (this is especially important if you have to apply for a 5 th attempt). Application for exemption for the semester project/bachelor project/master s thesis hand-in deadline must include: Explanation of the conditions resulting in the need for an extension. Explanation of how the extension will benefit your project and allow you to complete it before the new deadline. An attached letter from your project supervisor, supporting your request for an extension. Application must be submitted at least two weeks before the original deadline.
