5 QUALITY MANUFACTURING IN RECORD TIME At Storke Vinduer there is no such thing as off the shelf. Every single window and door is produced in accordance with an individual specification, without compromising on delivery time. Our unrivalled lead times are only made possible by our unique building process. This has been specifically designed to accelerate manufacturing time and guarantee fast delivery schedules. We use only slow growing trees from managed Scandinavian forests where the reate of replanting is greater than that of felling. 5

6 Opti-Wood is a unique process developed and registered by Storke Vinduer to ensure only the best materials are used in our windows and doors. After selecting only premium quality wood, this process then scans, identifies and eliminates any imperfections leaving you with a flawless finish. SELECT Working with a natural material such as wood means taking our environmental responsibilities very seriously. We do this by conserving resources, selecting wood at the highest available quality and by exceeding environmental compliance regulations.

7 SCANDINAVIAN PINE The pine tree is by far the largest and most important variety of all the conifers, providing more resin, paper pulp and building timber than any other tree family. Evergreen and resinous, the pine s thick and scaly bark provides a protective layer around the sapwood and heartwood interior. Sapwood is the youngest part of the tree and is generally softer due to its conduction of water and fluids. Recognizable by its texture, it is lighter than the inner heartwood, is low in resin content and has very few knots. As the tree grows in diameter, the innermost layers of sapwood become heartwood and new sapwood is produced on the inside of the woody stem. As a tree increases in age and diameter an inner portion of the sapwood becomes inactive and finally ceases to function, as the cells die. This inert or dead portion is called heartwood. Its name derives solely from its position and not from any vital importance to the tree. Full of preservation fluids such as resin, the heartwood section is much harder in texture. While knots from the tree s early years are clearly visible in the heartwood, these are removed by our unique Opti-Wood process, leaving the wood flawless and ideal for manufacturing doors and windows. THE PROCESS The quality and specification of the wood required for Storke windows is of a premium standard. Length and size are also important and so by completely scanning the source material, we can identify and select the highest content of heartwood for use in the end product. 10 moisture measurements are taken per centimetre and inferior wood is rejected. The selected wood is planed, scanned and filmed so that any knots, cracks, pockets of resin and other defects are revealed. After the scanning process, the wood is cut and defects are removed. The pure wood is then press bonded together into 6-metre lengths called comb joints which form the building blocks of our products. Comb joints have many technical and aesthetic advantages. They have great stability and strength as well as a uniform surface, with only a few small knots on visible surfaces and a very minimal risk of resin content. Unlike conventional VAC/FAC processes, Storke Vinduer insists on further treating its timber with an environmentally friendly water based impregnation system. 7

9 25MM ENERGY BAR GLAZING DETAIL Cleverly designed to achieve minimum heat loss and exploit maximum light, our windows are double-glazed with an bar framework located between the two panes. As the bar does not touch the glass on either side, there is no cold bridge. A timber profile is then bonded to both sides of the window, matching the spacer bar inside. Where conventional windows normally have 42mm or 60mm bars, our profile has also been developed to integrate a much more streamline 25mm bar. 11 SIDE SWING WINDOWS have an opening position of up to 90 and provide enough space between sash and outer frame to clean windows from inside the building. SIDE HUNG WINDOWS** are fitted with an espagnolette lock, friction brake and butt hinges. The friction brake is fitted at the bottom of the sash, making it possible to have the window open between 5 and 90. SIDE SWING REVERSIBLE WINDOWS** are similar to Side Swing, but allow the windows to open to a maximum of 170, although it is recommended that this facility be used for cleaning and not ventilation. **Available in Ireland on request. As airtight construction and energy efficiency make homes more comfortable and much less expensive to heat or cool, ventilation supplies fresh air to the home and removes stale air. Storke s adjustable window ventilation system is discreet from the inside and completely invisible from the exterior. 19 FIXED WINDOWS & FIXED FRAMES As the name suggests fixed frames and windows cannot be opened and are therefore ideal for large glazed areas. They can also be integrated into other configurations with other window types. Glazed areas as part of an extension or new build are an excellent way of prolonging the summer season and can be custom designed to suit all types of buildings and styles. 25 DANNEBROG WINDOWS are an example of classic Danish design. While the name includes a wide range of window varieties, their fundamental shape is inspired by the Danish national flag the Dannebrog. A Dannebrog window can either stand alone or consist of two or more elements. The variety in glazing bars can provide even more options. Dannebrog windows are mostly side hung, but when appropriate they are also available in a top hung version. 29 SOLID DOORS typically have decorative features that can be as simple and contemporary or as traditionally ornate as you wish. FRAME DOORS, complete with Opti-Wood frame, usually have either glass, raised or routered panels integrated on both sides of the door. Both types are produced in an abundance of styles to suit any taste or building. Also available are half doors or stable doors where the top half can open separately from the lower section. After assembly, all our doors and window frames are then primed, filed and sanded before they are finished with a flawless coating of paint measuring at least 80µ in thickness. At Storke we recommend our spray painting technique as the quality of the finish far exceeds the results that can be achieved with your own brush both in terms of protection and appearance. Our doors and window systems are available in RAL colours, as well as our standard colour range. 33 LOW E ENERGY SAVING GLASS All clear glass from Storke is energy glass. That means more heat is moving inside the house than out through the window. This invisible metal coating inside the glass reflects the heat back into the room. Argon glass contains a dense inert gas which slows heat transmission through the window. GLASS OPTIONS Patterned glass comes in many different styles, such as cotswold, sandblasted or stipolyte which can make glass seem partially or completely opaque. Special options include tinted and noise blocking glass which can reduce noise penetration by 35dB. WARM EDGE HERMETIC SEAL BAR An innovative addition to the Storke product range, warm edge windows provide better insulation and help prevent condensation. By replacing the old style hermetic bar with a synthetic material, the window conducts less heat and reduces reflection. 33
