1 Department of Campus Recreation Facility Use Policies PATRON POLICIES Facility use policies have been developed to provide a safe environment for the UNCG community and their guests to recreate. Campus Recreation staff are available to answer questions, provide assistance, and to ensure that policies and procedures are applied in a manner that provides for a safe physical and emotional environment for all CampusRec participants. We ask all participants to comply with our policies and to remember that CampusRec Staff have the final say in rule interpretation and enforcement. Student Recreation Center Memberships - Students currently enrolled in classes have access to the Student Recreation Center. Faculty/staff, alumni, and spouses/life mates of members may purchase a membership on the 4 th floor of the Student Recreation Center. ID Policy - Patrons must have a current membership to the recreation facilities, and must present their current valid UNCG ID or Student Recreation Center membership card to the staff upon entering the facility. No ID, No Entry! Guests Guests must be sponsored by a Campus Recreation member to use facilities. In order to purchase a guest pass, the guest must present a picture ID with proof of age (must be 18), be with the member, and complete an Assumption of Risk form. The Campus Recreation member is responsible for and must accompany the guest at all times. The cost for a guest pass is $6.00 a guest. Minors - Children under 18 are only allowed to use the Student Recreation Center on Friday evenings after 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sundays. Minors must be accompanied and directly supervised at all times by an adult. An Assumption of Risk form must be signed by the child s parent or legal guardian. Children under 17 are not allowed to use the Weight Room or fitness equipment at any time. Confiscated ID Patrons may gain access with their valid UNCG ID or Student Recreation Center membership card. University IDs and Student Recreation Center membership cards are nontransferrable. Those who attempt to enter the facility with another individual s ID will forfeit the ID. The owner of the confiscated ID must meet with the Assistant Director during business hours to obtain the ID. Proper Attire - All patrons must be wearing a shirt and non-marking athletic shoes. Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times except in the locker room area. Patrons must wear a shirt at all times inside the facility (a shirt that covers a participant s full back and front, but may be sleeveless). Staff has the authority to make judgment calls for any gray areas Jeans, sandals, and open-toed shoes are not allowed in the Weight Room or on fitness equipment.
2 Food & Drinks - Food and drinks other than water are not allowed in activity areas. Enclosed water bottles with water only are allowed in activity areas. Glass containers are prohibited. Rollerblades, Bikes, Skateboards, Scooters - Rollerblades, skateboards, bikes, and scooters are not allowed in the Student Recreation Center. Bicycles may not be left inside the Student Recreation Center for any amount of time; they must be locked up at a bike rack located outside of the facility. Pets - Pets are prohibited in the facility except handy dogs assisting a person with disability. Equipment Equipment may be checked out at the Pro Shop/Equipment Room with a valid UNCG ID or Student Recreation Center membership card. Patrons returning broken equipment will be charged for the replacement of the equipment. Tobacco Products & Alcohol - Tobacco products and alcohol of any kind are NOT allowed in the facility. Patrons suspected to be under the influence of alcohol will be asked to leave the facility immediately. Weapons & Firearms - No weapons or firearms of any kind are allowed in the Student Recreation Center. Patrons possessing any weapon or firearm will be denied access into facility, or asked to leave the premises immediately. Athletic Footwear - Non-marking court/athletic shoes must be worn in all activity areas. Close-toed shoes must be worn in the Weight Room. Any patron wearing shoes that mark the court will be asked to change shoes before he/she may continue the activity. Patrons may not participate in socks or bare foot with the exception of specialized fitness classes. Backpacks/Gear Bags - All personal belongings, backpacks or gym bags must be stored in a locker. Only gear bags containing handball/racquetball equipment are allowed in the racquetball area. Bags and personal belongings found in activity areas will be turned in at the Equipment Room. Locker Rooms & Lockers - Lockers in the locker rooms are available for semester or yearly rental through Student Recreation Center main desk or may be used for the day. If personal locks are left on lockers overnight, they will be cut off, and the contents will be stored in the Equipment Room. Lockers are available throughout the facility for day use only. Locks may be checked out at the front desk. If a patron loses the key and the lock must be cut, the patron will be charged for the cost of the lock. Vandalism - Any patron vandalizing recreation facilities in any manner (kicking, hitting, writing, etc.) will be removed immediately. Patrons may also be held financially responsible for any damage. Abusive Behavior - Patrons exhibiting abusive behavior, either verbally or physically, toward a fellow patron or employee will be asked to leave the facility immediately. Comment Forms - Patrons wishing to voice a concern or praise a program, service, or employee are encouraged to complete a suggestion form. These forms are located at the entrance counter at the
3 Student Recreation Center. These forms are collected regularly, and answered by the Director of Campus Recreation. Reservations Intramural Sports, Club Sports and other scheduled groups take precedence over informal recreation. Hanging on Rim Hanging on basketball rims or backboards is strictly prohibited. Weight Room and Fitness Area Policies Age Participants must be 17 years of age or older to work out in the weight rooms and at least 14 years of age to use cardio equipment. Chalk Chalk is not allowed in the weight room. Olympic Lifts Olympic style pulling or pressing movements are not allowed, including cleans, snatches, jerks. Power Rack All exercises using the 45 lbs. weight lifting bar must stay in the designated Power Rack in the appropriate lifting position. Only the 25lbs. bar is allowed outside the Power Rack. Cardio Equipment- There is a 30-minute time limit on all cardio equipment. Open machines may be used on first come first serve basis. Dumbbells and Weight Stacks - Dumbbells and weight stacks should not be dropped. Dumbbells or Weight Stacks from the Weight Room should not be utilized on the track and 2 nd floor of the facility. Collars Collars are required at all times. Please use a spotter when necessary. Weight Equipment Patrons should not stand on benches or equipment frames, or lean barbells/weight plates against walls or benches. Equipment is to be used as intended by the manufacturer and is for use in the exercise room only. Equipment may only be moved by a staff member. Only UNCG Campus Recreation fitness equipment can be utilized in the facility. Weight Room Etiquette - Avoid loitering on equipment and allow others to "work in" when performing multiple sets. Wipe off equipment immediately after use. Towels and water bottles with a soap solution are provided at various exercise machines. Draw String/Backpacks/Duffel bags No draw string bags, backpacks and duffel bags are allowed in the Free Weight Room. Draw string bags and small backpacks are allowed in the Exercise Room and Cardio spaces if not interfering with walkways or present a tripping hazard. Personal Training - Personal trainers must be UNCG Campus Recreation employees. Anyone caught training another individual will be asked to leave the facility immediately.
4 Exercise Safety - Exercises that prohibit the safety of those performing the exercises and other patrons (contraindicated exercises, untraditional exercises, and occupy excessive space) are not allowed. Drinks Drinking water is encouraged from the drinking fountain or carried in plastic water bottles only. No food or other beverages allowed. Glass bottles are not allowed. Attachments Patrons must use an attachment on the cable machines. Hand Stand Push Ups If wanting to do headstand push-ups please check out ab mat from Equipment Checkout and utilize under head. Headstand push-ups are only allowed in Syngry Studio. Synrgy Studio Policies Capacity - 10 patron max in the Synrgy Studio. Chalk Chalk is not allowed in the Synrgy Studio. Olympic Lifts Olympic style pulling or pressing movements are not allowed, including cleans, snatches, jerks. Weight Equipment - All equipment must stay in the Syngry Studio. No outside dumbbells or weights from Free Weight Room are allowed in this space. Weight Room Etiquette - Avoid loitering on equipment and allow others to "work in" when performing multiple sets. Wipe off equipment immediately after use. Heavy Bag- Kicking the heavy bag is not allowed. Boxing gloves must be worn when using heavy bag. Wraps alone are not acceptable. Please wipe down boxing gloves after use (inside and out). Slam Balls - If wanting to slam balls against the floor or wall, please use wall balls, not medicine balls. All balls must stay in Synrgy Studio. Headstand push-ups - If wanting to do headstand push-ups please check out ab mat from Equipment Checkout and utilize under head. Headstand push-ups are only allowed in Syngry Studio. Rec Field ID Policy All users must have a current UNCG ID or Student Recreation Center card. Alcohol & Tobacco Products No alcohol or tobacco products of any kind are allowed on the field. Anyone suspected to be under the influence of alcohol will be asked to leave the field immediately. Glass Containers Glass containers are not allowed.
5 Pets Pets must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet at all times. Pet owners must remove all pet waste. Bikes Bikes are not allowed on the field. Participants must lock bikes in the proper areas outside of the field. Golf Practicing any type of golf shot is prohibited on the field. Campus Recreation Courts & Irwin Belk Recreation Track Vehicles Motorized vehicles are prohibited. Bikes - Bicycles, rollerblades, and skateboards are prohibited on the courts. ID Policy - UNCG ID required for use. Guests Guests must be sponsored by a Campus Recreation member to use facilities. In order to purchase a guest pass, the guest must present a picture ID with proof of age (must be 18), be with the member, and complete an Assumption of Risk form. Guest passes must be purchased at the Student Recreation Center. The Campus Recreation member is responsible for and must accompany the guest at all times. Etiquette - Users should remain on right side of track except when passing. Waste - Don t litter please pick up your trash. Glass Containers Glass bottles are prohibited. Alcohol & Tobacco Products - Consumption of alcoholic beverages and use of tobacco products not allowed. Anyone suspected to be under the influence of alcohol will be asked to leave immediately. Pets - Pets must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet at all times. Pet owners must remove all pet waste. Safety - Patrons are encouraged to use track and courts with companion. Inclement Weather - Trail and court use is dangerous during thunderstorms and lightening. Suspicious Activity - Report illegal/suspicious activity to the UNCG Police Department via the Blue Light Emergency Phone or (Emergencies). Rosenthal Pool Members- Faculty, staff, and students all have access to Rosenthal Pool with a valid UNCG ID. Faculty and Staff do not have to be members of the SRC to access the pool.
6 Guests- Guests must be sponsored by a UNCG Faculty, Staff, or Student. In order to purchase a guest pass, the individuals must come to the SRC and the guest must present a picture ID with proof of age (must be 18), be with the member, and complete an Assumption of Risk form. The UNCG Faculty, Staff, or Student sponsoring the guest is responsible for and must accompany the guest at all times Supervision - No swimming or pool use without proper ON DECK supervision of a lifeguard or instructor. Showers - Swimmers or pool users must shower before entering the pool. Infections/Sores - No one is permitted in the pool with open sores or infections. (This is as much for the protection of the person with the sores as it is for other swimmers). Walk - Do not run on the pool deck. Behavior - Inappropriate behavior or language will not be permitted on the deck or in the pool. Diving - No diving into the shallow end of the pool. Swimming Ability - Children and adults should be able to independently swim a lap of the width of the shallow end before swimming in the deep water. If unsure of a child s swimming ability, ask the child to swim the width of the shallow end to demonstrate their swimming ability. Swimmers should not touch the bottom of the shallow end while taking the test. Flotation Devices - Although flotation devices are allowed in the pool, flotation devices are not to be used as substitutes for swimming ability. Footwear - Street shoes are allowed on the deck. However guards should observe shoes that are muddy or dirty and ask the person to remove them before walking on the deck. Emergency Phone In the case of an emergency, please use the emergency phone located on the wall outside the staff bathroom at the deep end of the pool. Food/Drinks - No eating, drinking (other than plastic water bottles), or glassware in the pool area. Alcohol/Tobacco Products Alcohol and tobacco products prohibited. Anyone suspected of being under the influence or possessing these items will be asked to leave immediately. Horseplay - Horseplay is NOT allowed in the pool. Fitness Classes - Recreational swimmers should yield to the Campus Recreation aerobics classes in the shallow end of the pool. Attire - All swimmers must wear a bathing suit to use the pool. Appropriate t-shirts and shorts (no jean shorts) may be worn over bathing suit.
7 Minors - Minors are only allowed in the pool during Family Weekend hours on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. Minors must be accompanied and directly supervised by an adult at all times. An Assumption of Risk form must be signed by the parent or legal guardian of the child. Diving Board - THE DIVING BOARD IS CLOSED.
