9 GENERAL SHOWING RULES AND CONDITIONS The use of sub-headings as well as emboldened type in these rules is for ease of reference only and does not affect the interpretation of the rules. 1. ENTRIES:- 1.1 RULES - Every exhibitor making entries for the show shall be deemed to have agreed to abide by these Rules and it is on this understanding only those entries are accepted. 1.2 ENTRIES:- All entries must be made on the Society s on-line entry system before the dates specified in the Schedule. 1.3 CLOSE OF ENTRIES:- on-line entries may be closed at any time after the published date please check website. 1.4 RIGHT OF REFUSAL:- The Council reserves the right to refuse any entry. 1.5 WITHDRAWAL OF CLASSES:- Except where British Show Jumping Rule applies, in the event that there are less than six entries in any class at the date of closing, such class may be withdrawn, in which case the entrants will be advised and their entry fees returned. Rule may be applied where there are fewer than 4 starters. 1.6 NOMINATION ENTRIES will not be accepted. 1.7 ESSENTIAL ACTION:- Exhibitors will comply with any directions or instructions given to them by the Society which the Society deems to be expedient. 1.8 RESTRICTED LIABILITY:- In the event that a class or classes are cancelled by the Society (whether or not the Show takes place) then the maximum compensation due to an exhibitor will be a refund of the entry fee(s) paid by the exhibitor in respect of the class or classes that have been cancelled. 1.9 QUALIFYING CLASSES:- Competitions qualifying for events organised by other bodies are offered in good faith on information provided by those bodies. No liability is accepted by this Society if those events take place in circumstances other than those originally stated or do not proceed. 2. OWNERSHIP:- Exhibits in all classes must be the bona fide property of the exhibitors and all exhibits must have been the property of, and in the possession of, the exhibitors at the time of entry. Any person who has care and control of an exhibit on the Showground will be deemed to be the Agent of that exhibit s owner for all purposes connected with that exhibit. 3. ENTRY/STALLAGE AND PENNING FEES. 3.1 SEE SPECIAL CONDITIONS:- Entry/stallage and penning fees must accompany entries or same will not be accepted. The entry/stallage and penning fee for any animal entered and not exhibited will be forfeited. Any additional costs incurred by the Society arising from non clearance of a cheque must be paid by the exhibitor before he/she is allowed to compete. 3.2 INTEREST:- Interest upon sums due to the Society under these Rules shall be payable at the rate of 3.5% above the base rate charged by Lloyds Bank from time to time and shall be payable commencing 14 days after the published date for the close of entries in the relevant section. 4. PASSES:- See Special Regulations applying to the appropriate section. 5. JUDGES:- 5.1 APPOINTMENT:- A list of Judges for the forthcoming Show shall be nominated by the Council. 5.2 DEPUTY:- In the event of a Judge or Judges failing to attend on Show Day, the Secretary or Chief Steward may appoint a Deputy or Deputies. 5.3 JUDGES INTEREST IN ENTRIES:- Exhibitors are particularly requested to note the name of the Judge appointed for the Classes they wish to enter, and are advised, in the interest of all concerned, not knowingly to enter an animal bred by, or that has been owned by, the Judge appointed. In cases where the Judge has a continuing business or financial relationship with an exhibitor, he/she should not judge the animal(s) entered by that exhibitor, whether or not the particular animal(s) form part of the business relationship. Where the Judge has had a past financial or breeding interest in a particular animal(s), he/she should not judge it. In the event of a Judge having an interest in any exhibit(s) then he/she shall first judge and place all other exhibits and an alternate Judge, if possible from the Breed panel, shall then place the exhibit(s) in question. The alternate Judge shall be nominated at the absolute discretion of the Society through the Chief Steward of the Section. 6. STEWARDS:- An exhibitor cannot act as Steward in any class in which he/she has an entry. 7. OBJECTIONS:- The decision of the Judges shall be final. Objections of any kind must be made in writing and delivered to the Secretary making clear that it is an objection which is being handed in. A deposit of 60 shall be paid with each objection which must be made within one hour of the Judge s decision being given on the day of the Show; in the case of a joint objection a deposit shall be payable by each objector. Such objections will be considered by a panel of not less than three members of the Society appointed by the Chairman or Vice-Chairman and their decision shall be final. Anonymity will not be available to any objector. The deposit may be forfeited at the discretion of the panel. 9

10 8. SAFETY:- The Organisers of this Show have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all Officials and Stewards. It is a condition of entry that exhibitors conform to the requirements of the Society s Safety Policy and of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and for ensuring that safe working practices are followed by themselves, their employees, Agents and Contractors. (See also Cattle Regulation on Cattle Handling). A full copy of our Health and Safety policy can be found on our website. 9. UNRULY ANIMALS:- All animals must be controlled to the satisfaction of the Stewards who shall have power to exclude from the Showground any vicious or unruly animals. Animals with a previous record of unruly behavior should not be brought to the Showground. 10. LIABILITY:- The Council will not be responsible for any error which may appear in the Catalogue or for any entry being made in the wrong class, nor will the Council be held responsible for exhibits not arriving in time to be judged. The Council do not hold themselves responsible for any loss, injury or damage to any persons or exhibit at the Show, and it shall be a condition of entry that exhibitors hold the Society blameless and indemnify it against legal proceedings there from. 11. CONDUCT: BEHAVIOUR - In the event of a competitor, or anyone connected with a competitor, being guilty of improper or abusive behaviour towards his or her animal, any Official of the Society or the general public, the Chairman or Chief Steward shall have the power to order the offender to leave the Showground and recommend that the Council shall refuse that person s entry for future Shows. Should an exhibitor be aggrieved at such action he/she may lodge an objection in writing. Such objections will be considered by a panel of not less than three members of the Society appointed by the Chairman or Vice-Chairman and their decision shall be final ANIMAL HEALTH If any exhibitor brings an animal to the Showground suffering from a contagious disease all his animals may be sent home and future entries from him may, by resolution of the Council, be refused Unfit or diseased animals may be sent home In any case concerning the health or well-being of an animal, the decision of the Society s Veterinary Officer shall be final The Society deplores the administration of substances not naturally occurring or abnormal quantities of natural substances to animals or humans intended to alter their behavior in the ring ( doping ). Certain of the Societies to which the Show is affiliated, or under whose rules classes are held, set conditions regarding doping and dope testing and all entries in such classes are subject to those conditions Any animal showing signs of infectious disease or appearing to be about to give birth or abort will be isolated until the Show Veterinary Surgeon (if necessary in consultation with the Divisional Veterinary Manager) permits its return to the farm of origin. 12. PRIZES:- Prize cards will be given to all winners and prize money paid out in the Horse Secretary s Tent. For late classes only please claim from the Show Office before 30th September. Prize money not claimed will be forfeited. Trophies must be left on the showground on show day. 13. DATA STORAGE:- Information from entry forms may be stored on computer and the name, address and details of entries will be published in the Catalogue of Entries; information about results may also be published and/or provided to the Press and Breed Societies for publication. Information about exhibitors and their animals may also be provided to DEFRA, Trading Standards, Depts. of County Councils, BCMS., SAC, Breed Societies and others having regulatory functions as well as the Society s Veterinary, Environmental Health, Legal and Safety Advisers. The making of an entry is irrevocable consent for the storage and disclosure of information in this way. 14. CONTRACT:- The contract between an exhibitor and the Society shall be made at Moreton-in-Marsh. 15. SPECIAL REGULATIONS applicable to any Section and any special class conditions shall be deemed to be part of these General Conditions. In the event of a conflict, then the Special Regulations shall prevail. 16. LEGAL COMPLIANCE:- Exhibitors shall comply with all relevant Statutes and Regulations. 11 SPECIAL REGULATIONS APPLYING TO ALL HORSE CLASSES IN ADDITION TO THE GENERAL SHOWING RULES 1. ENTRIES -No horse may be entered in both a Hack and Hunter or Riding Horse Class. No Horse which has been nicked or docked may be shown. 2. RESTRICTED ENTRIES:- It may be necessary to restrict entries in any class if warranted; accordingly entries may have to be accepted on a first come first served basis. 3. AFFILIATION:- In any Class or Section which is affiliated to a Governing Body it shall be a condition of entry that exhibitors, whether or not members of that Body, shall comply with its Rules and will be liable to dope testing. 4. PASSES:- Vehicles carrying horses/ponies ONLY will BE ADMITTED free. Vehicles other than horseboxes will not be admitted into the Horse Box Park but can park for free in the Public Car Parks. Personnel not holding tickets will be charged normal prices at the pay on foot entrance gate. 5. No tickets, passes or numbers will be sent out prior to the show unless you have ordered and paid for extra tickets, or you have ticked the box for owners who will be traveling separately. A copy of your booking entry form must be displayed on the dashboard to get your lorry into the Horse Lorry Park. Vehicles not towing a Horse Trailer will NOT be allowed in the Horse Lorry Park but can be parked in the Public Car Parks and enter on foot through the pay gates. 6. NUMBERS - can be printed off the system or picked up from the Secretary s Tent on show day. 7. SUBSTITUTION of animals in place of those already entered but unable to be exhibited is NOT allowed, except where BSJ and SSA Rules permit. 8. REFUND - The entry fee for horses unable to be exhibited after entry owing to accident or illness will be refunded if written notification accompanied by a Vet s Certificate is received before the Show (scan acceptable), except where British Show Jumping or SSA rules apply. Any levy which has been or is to be paid to Horse of the year Show, or any other organization will not be refunded. An administration fee will be charged. No refund will be made if the exhibit is found to be ineligible to compete, whether for want of registration or otherwise, nor if duplicate entries are made. No entry fees will be refunded should the exhibit be unable to attend the show due to any Animal Health Order issued by DEFRA. 9. STYLE - Horses must be ridden astride in all classes except Side Saddle. 10. PROBATIONARY JUDGES - Exhibitors may be required to allow Probationary Judges to ride their horses as the Society is anxious to improve the Panels. 11. HARD HAT On the Showground and for all Classes the wearing of a skull cap or hat and safety harness according to the current approved BSI or European Standard is compulsory. 12. PRIZE MONEY - Prize money will be paid out from the Horse Secretary s Tent. For late classes only please claim from Show Office before 30th September. Prize money not claimed with be forfeited TROPHY - No trophies to be taken off the showground. They will be awarded and then given back to the Horse Ring Steward. 13. SHOWING CLASSES - Prizes may be withheld if in the opinion of the Judge the exhibits do not reach the standard required. The 4th and subsequent prizes will be withheld if less than 6 entries are forward. 14. LOCAL CLASSES - are open to exhibitors residing or farming within the counties of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. Any part of the exhibitor s regular holding coming within the area entitles him to show. The words regular holding to mean Ownership, Tenancy or Lease. Show officials shall not be held responsible for acceptance of entries which may prove out of area. 15. JUDGING - If the judging of the number forward in a class may exceed the time allowed for that class, at the Judge s discretion it is regretted that it may not always be possible for the Judge to ride each horse or for every competitor to be allowed an individual show. 16. FALL - If a rider falls off a horse in a class, the rider is not allowed to remount in the ring and the horse is eliminated from the class. No judge or steward has the authority to waive this rule. The rider is permitted to compete on other horses entered in the class. And the horse is permitted to compete in other classes in which the horse has been entered. 17. TIMING - Classes may commence at or after the published time. The Society will not be responsible for any loss where an exhibitor has made entries in more than one class and because of a time overrun it is not possible for him/her or the horse/pony to compete in one or more later classes. No claim for refund of fees paid or other loss, direct, indirect or consequential will be accepted or paid. 18. LUNGING - This is not permitted anywhere on showground. Anyone found lunging will be disqualified from their class and asked to leave the showground. 19. AMATEUR STATUS:- A person is an amateur for showing purposes, when showing Ridden Hunters in an amateur class, if he or she does not: 1) Engage in livery, buying, selling, dealing or hiring horses as a means of deriving a main source of income since 1st January,

12 2) Accept remuneration whether it be monetary or goods in kind for employment in connection with horses in a racing, showing or livery stable or riding school (instruction at Pony Club and Riding Club excepted) since 1st January, ) Show a horse owned or sponsored by a company or commercial firm, or a horse for which his or her immediate family accepts livery or training charges from a person outside the immediate concern since 1st January, ) Show a horse which a professional rider has ridden in any ridden hunter or ridden sport horse class during the current year, with the exception of working hunter classes & ladies hunter classes, unless the horse has subsequently been re-registered under new ownership. 5) Professional show persons must not enter the Amateur Ring whilst the classes are in progress. A Professional show person is another term for a professional producer and as such a professional groom who works for a producer can enter the ring to groom 6) A professional rider must not ride or exercise an amateur s horse on the day if it is competing in amateur classes 20. MOBILE PHONES The use of mobile phones is not permitted within the collecting and judging rings. HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW ENTRY FEES: Certain classes in the Horse Section are marked as HORSE OF THE YEAR SHOW QUALIFIERS and their entry fees incorporate a per entry contribution which will be passed to the Horse of the Year Show Organisers, Grandstand Media Ltd. This contribution does not include Value Added Tax which is, however, included in the remainder of the fees and all others at the standard rate of 20% (or that prevailing at the tax point). Those reclaiming VAT as input tax are advised that particular care is needed Horse of the Year Show Qualifying Classes (including Hunter qualifiers) Held under the rules of the British Show Horse Association. Horses must be registered with the Association and all Owners, Exhibitors and Riders must be Association Members. Riders must be 15 years of age or older. Registration numbers must be quoted on entry form. HUNTERS Classes (4,5,6,7,15 &16) are qualifiers for Horse of the Year Show. The first prize winner will qualify to compete at the final. If already qualified the second will qualify, if the first and second are already qualified then the third will go forward. No Horse lower than third place will qualify. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the Year Show office. HACK, COBS & RIDING HORSES Classes (3, 21,22,23,24,25,27 & 28) are qualifiers for Horse of the Year Show. The first prize winner will qualify to compete at the final. If already qualified the second will qualify, if the first and second are already qualified then the third will go forward and so forth to fifth place. Qualification will be verified by the Horse of the Year Show office. In accordance with BSHA Rules the annual BSHA Horse of the Year Show fee of 15 must have been paid to BSHA before the entry is made if the Exhibitor wishes to qualify. The BSHA Horse of the Year Show fee cannot be paid in retrospect. This fee is not the Horse of the Year Show contribution, which goes to Grandstand Media Ltd. SHB(GB) Registration Numbers PLEASE in classes 1, 2, 8, 17, 18, 19 & 20 affiliated to Sport Horse Breeding and held under their rules, GIVE US THE CURRENT REGISTRATION NUMBER or, if you ve only just applied for it, SAY SO. The BSHA Horse of the Year Show fee cannot be paid in retrospect. This fee is not the Horse of the Year Show contribution which goes to Grandstand Media Ltd. Horses competing at the Horse of the Year Show and qualifying shows in The Hunter sections of The Sport Horse Breeding of Great Britain classes at their Affiliated Shows cannot compete in Hack, Cobs and Riding Horse classes at the same show, on the same day and vice versa. This does not apply to SHB (GB) Ridden Sport Horse classes. The three highest placed prize winners in all open affiliated classes will qualify to compete in the BSHA Classic Supreme Classes at the National Championship Show 9th 11th September The BSHA offer a Novice, Young Rider and Amateur rosette in each Open class and a Champion rosette for each section.
