2 Scotland BBC Children in Need-supported projects as at November COMMUNITY PROJECT NAME GRANT AMOUNT GRANT USE Aberdeen Advocacy Service Aberdeen 94,817 This project will help children and young people with a variety of additional support needs, disabilities or other challenges in their lives. It will help them articulate their needs, express their opinions and participate in decisions that affect them. Aberdeen Beatback 95,040 This project will help develop the self confidence and social skills of disabled children and young people by running weekly music, singing and dance workshops and performances. Aberdeen Grampian Regional Equality Council Ltd 28,182 This project will help build confidence and self esteem of children affected by racial abuse, bullying, discrimination and harassment by providing counselling and a dedicated support service. This will help them feel happier, safe and more settled. Aberdeen Printfield Community Project 9,924 This project will run after school activities for children living in an area with high unemployment, crime and anti-social behaviour. The fun activities will help them to be more confident, healthier and happier, and improve community relationships. Aberdeen St Andrew s Children s Society 7,000 This project helps children and young people going through adoption or fostering. New therapy and counselling rooms will help them to build positive relationships with their new families, to meet and support each other, be happier and better able to cope. Aberdeen Fersands & Fountain Playscheme 9,000 Junior youth clubs and after school activities including arts and crafts, outings, sports and dance for young people living in an area of disadvantage. They will feel happier, more confident and included, make friends and have fun. 2

3 Aberdeenshire Avenue Confidential 48,408 Counselling sessions to help children and young people who have been affected by family breakdowns. They will feel happier, calmer and more confident, more able to deal with their feelings and reduce anger, and improve family relationships. Aberdeenshire Scottish Spina Bifida Association 87,541 This project will help young people who have spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus and their siblings. It will provide a one-to-one service and group activities, help them access social and leisure activities, make friends, be more confident and independent. Angus Links Park Community Trust 7,997 This project will run street sports sessions on Fridays and Saturdays in areas around Montrose where young people are at risk of antisocial behaviour. They will be more engaged in their communities, healthier and have opportunities to volunteer. Argyll and Bute Argyll and Bute Argyll and Bute Befrienders - Argyll & Bute Childrens Befriending Scheme Gareloch Group - Riding for Disabled Association Islay & Jura Community Enterprises Ltd 129,876 This project will help and support young people facing a variety of challenges by providing a trained volunteer befriender. This will help them to be more confident, increase engagement with education and improve relationships with families. 9,265 Through working with horses this project will help disabled young people to have fun, make friends and increase their emotional wellbeing. 6,774 This project will cover the cost of a weekly therapeutic swimming activity for disabled children living on Islay and Jura in Argyll and Bute. It will increase skills and confidence, increase social contact and improve fitness. Argyll and Bute Kintyre Youth Enquiry Service 57,610 This project will provide a range of support and diversionary activities for young people in a rural area. It will increase confidence, develop new skills and improve leadership skills. Argyll and Bute Oban Youth Cafe Project Ltd 84,992 This project will provide 315 young people in and around Oban with access to youth services five nights every week as well as a range of complementary activities throughout each year of this three year grant. 3

4 Argyll and Bute North Argyll Carers Centre Ltd 85,165 This three year grant will provide 3 age specific after school clubs every week for young people with caring responsibilities living in North Argyll. It will improve their confidence and resilience, reduce isolation and contribute to their development. Borders Borders Connect Berwickshire Youth Project Eildon West Youth Hub (TD1 Youth Hub) 68,896 The project will support employability and intergenerational activities for young people in Eyemouth by upcycling six mopeds and facilitating sessions in the community cafe. It will enhance personal development, confidence and life chances. 77,559 This project will run sports activities, drop-in and outreach services for young people in a rural area with high unemployment, low incomes and issues with alcohol etc. They will be healthier, have greater access to information and be more engaged. Borders Escape 101,682 This project will run a drop-in youth cafe and other activities in Hawick, providing young people at risk of offending and from workless households with opportunities for self development, learning and fun. Borders Interest Link Borders 93,415 This project will help young people with a range of disabilities and complex needs by providing the support of volunteer befrienders and access to activities. They will have fun, make friends, be happier and more confident and learn new life skills. Borders Stable Life 121,166 This project will help young people experiencing stress such as poor mental health, abuse, or exclusion from school using horse centred support and therapy. They will be happier, more confident, more able to deal with their emotions and learn new skills. Clackmannanshire Community House 126,191 This project runs clubs, activities and holiday activities for young people living in an area with high unemployment and many challenges. They will learn new skills, be happier and more confident, and community relations will be improved. Clackmannanshire Play Alloa 59,259 This project runs a Saturday Club with arts and crafts, music, dance, physical and outdoor activities, for children with complex support needs. They will have fun and make friends, improve their social skills, be more confident and independent. 4

5 Dumfries and Galloway Dumfries and Galloway Creetown Initiative 38,804 This project will support youth clubs in the rurally isolated areas of Creetown and Newton Stewart working with 125 young people aged They will learn new skills, increase in confidence and better engage with their local community. Sports Driving 9,225 This project will enable 60 disabled children and young people from Dumfries and Galloway to take part in the equestrian sport of Sports Driving. It will improve confidence, increase skills and enhance mental and physical energy. Dumfries and Galloway Women s Aid Dumfriesshire & Stewartry 3,350 This project will run trips and activities for young people who have been affected by domestic violence. They will be more confident, improve relationships with mothers, make friends, develop their social skills and feel less isolated. Dumfries and Galloway Dumfries and Galloway Women s Aid Wigtownshire 7,651 This project will provide a series of trips and activities for 91 children and young people affected by domestic abuse in Dumfries and Galloway. It will let them have fun, decrease their isolation and increase confidence. Turning Point Scotland 10,000 This project will provide 20 disabled young people with a sensory room and other equipment for their youth group in Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway. It will help them have fun with friends, learn skills and have improved overall wellbeing. Dundee Attic Charity 56,306 This project will run a variety of clubs, groups and activities for children facing economic and social deprivation. They will be happier and more confident, make friends, learn new skills and improve their expectations for the future. Dundee Boomerang Community Centre 80,340 This project will run youth clubs for children who live in an area of little opportunity and could otherwise be involved in anti-social behaviour or substance abuse. The project will increase their confidence and integrate them into the community. Dundee Chalmers Ardler Trust Child & Family Project 35,700 This project will run activity groups for pre-school children and their young parents in a disadvantaged area. The children will get the chance to have fun, play with others, get ready for nursery by developing social skills and bond with their parents. 5

6 Dundee Disabled & Carers Information Centre Association 83,257 This project helps young carers living in Dundee, with one to one and group support and activities. They will be happier, more confident, better able to cope with their situation and less socially isolated. Dundee Hot Chocolate Trust 102,561 This project will fund open drop-in sessions for vulnerable young people in a disadvantaged area. This will be supported by more intensive one-to-one and group work sessions with residential opportunities to increase confidence, resilience and wellbeing Dundee Princes Trust Scotland 3,600 A five-day intensive course for marginalised young people, including a residential with outdoor activities. Young people will overcome challenges to develop their confidence, build up trust and social skills, leading to increased aspirations. Dundee RockSolid Youth Project 84,652 This project runs youth clubs and after-school activities for young people living in an area of disadvantage. They can also take part in volunteering and planning activities. They will be more confident, develop life skills and have fun. Dundee St Andrew s Project 65,915 This project increases emotional well being by providing supported play for infants and their parents. Sessions and support will also be provided for parents to help address issues of care, child development, parenting and support. Dundee St Marys Community Facility Management Group 5,535 This project will run after-school activity clubs with games, sports, arts and crafts, for children living in an area with many disadvantages. They will develop social and communication skills, have fun and make friends, and improve self esteem. Dundee Tayside Council On Alcohol 98,475 This project helps children living with kinship carers due to parental substance misuse. Group and one to one support and activities will help them to be happier and more confident, improve family relationships and to feel included in their communities. Dundee Women s Aid Dundee 54,230 This project will run school holiday activities for young people who have been affected by domestic violence. This will help them to be more confident, develop their social skills and feel less isolated. 6

7 Dundee Youth Link Dundee 37,128 This project will help children and young people facing a variety of challenges by providing the support of volunteer befrienders and access to activities. They will have fun, enjoy new experiences, be more confident and make friends. East Ayrshire Home-Start East Ayrshire 21,600 This project will provide home support for disadvantaged families with children under 5, helping them access support and play opportunities and offering parenting support. The children will be healthier and happier and have improved family relationships. East Ayrshire Park School 8,000 This project will purchase equipment for disabled children and young people to access the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme. It will also purchase sensory equipment leading to improved engagement in education, increased life skills and better health. East Ayrshire Women s Aid East Ayrshire 8,900 This project will provide sport and arts activities and short breaks for 114 children and young people affected by domestic abuse in East Ayrshire. It will increase confidence, reduce social isolation and enhance family relationships. East Ayrshire Yipworld 39,960 This project will work with girls & young women suffering from low self confidence and related issues, providing them with motivational workshops to build their confidence and self esteem and equip them with the skills to lead a healthier, safer lifestyle East Ayrshire Zone Initiative Limited 60,000 This project will provide after-school play facilities for young people who live in an area of low income and deprivation. These play activities will enable the young people to have fun, make friends and improve their confidence. East Renfrewshire St Luke s High School 3,350 Weekly after-school groups where young people living in an area of multiple disadvantages can have fun and take part in activities and trips. They will be more confident, improve their social skills and resilience and broaden their experiences. East Dunbartonshire Afasic Scotland 30,000 This project will run a weekly youth club for young people aged years with speech and language barriers, where they can meet and socialise with others with similar needs. They will have fun and become more confident and independent. 7

8 East Lothian Bridges Project 104,458 This project will provide individual, therapeutic and group work to increase the emotional well being and life skills of young people affected by challenging circumstances and distress, leading to behavioural issues. East Lothian First Step Community Project 72,783 This project will help very young children who are affected by difficult family circumstances. It will provide specialist support to help them in their development, and give them the chance to play and have fun with other children. East Lothian Tranent Youth & Community Facility (Recharge) 99,249 This project will help young people facing challenges from an area of limited opportunities by providing intensive one to one and group support, and a youth managers programme. This will help them become more confident, raise self esteem and aspirations. Edinburgh Children 1st 132,350 A family support service for children living in a variety of challenging circumstances in Edinburgh. Children will be happier, more confident and resilient as they and their families are given tailored support, some with volunteer befrienders and helpers. Edinburgh Citadel Youth Centre 129,982 This project will help girls and young women from Leith in Edinburgh to become more confident and resilient and raise their aspirations. It provides one to one and group support and activities, plus a peer mentoring programme. Edinburgh Craigmillar Community Arts 9,900 This project will run weekly drama, music and art activities for children living in an area of disadvantage. They will be happier and more confident, gain new skills, make friends and be more included in their community. Edinburgh Craigmillar Literacy Trust/ Craigmillar Books For Babies 9,070 This project will help children under 5 with additional support needs from an area of disadvantage by providing books and other resources in home visits, teaching songs and games. Children will improve their communication skills, be happier and more active. Edinburgh Dance Base Ltd 29,124 This project will provide dance workshops for children with learning difficulties and physical or sensory impairment. By attending regular sessions the young people will improve their communication skills, self-esteem and have fun. 8

9 Edinburgh Deaf Action 110,257 This project will bring together young deaf people, siblings and friends from across Edinburgh, Fife, Lothian and the Borders to promote independence, self-esteem and confidence through a programme of activities. Edinburgh Dean & Cauvin Trust 54,815 A programme of group activities for young people preparing to leave care or who have just left care. They will be supported to develop the skills they need to live independently, be happier and more confident, and able to make informed positive choices. Edinburgh Dunedin Canmore Housing Association 105,353 This project runs drop-in youth cafés for young people from disadvantaged areas who may have complex needs or be at risk of school exclusion. Social events and activities will help them to be more confident and go on to further education or employment. Edinburgh Edinburgh Cyrenians 85,004 This project will help young people, mainly living in kinship care, to resolve family conflicts. Young people will be happier and more confident, improve communication and conflict resolution skills, and improve relationships with their families. Edinburgh Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre 94,836 This project helps young people who have experienced sexual abuse. It provides a variety of individual and group support to help them deal with their feelings, feel happier and able to move on with their lives. Edinburgh FABB Scotland 8,763 An after school sports club for disabled children, with a variety of activities offered. Children will be healthier, fitter and more confident, spend time with friends, have fun and increase independence. Edinburgh Firsthand 8,937 A befriending service for disabled children and their siblings to help them access a variety of activities. Children and young people will be less isolated, improve family relationships and increase independence. Edinburgh Granton Youth Centre 104,334 This project will provide drop-in sessions and activities for young people from an area with multiple social and economic challenges. They will be more confident, learn new skills, participate more in their local community and raise their aspirations. 9

10 Edinburgh Hearts & Minds 87,912 Clowndoctors use performing arts to interact with children and young people who are disabled or ill, in schools, hospitals, residential care and hospices across Scotland. They will reduce stress and anxiety, improve communication skills and have fun. Edinburgh Edinburgh Edinburgh Jack Kane Community Education Centre Junction Young People, Health & Wellbeing Kaimes Special School Association 9,823 An active healthy lifestyles project, with sessions on healthy eating and sports or other physical activity, for children and young people living in an area with many disadvantages. They will be healthier and more active, learn about and grow healthy food 75,867 This project will help young people with a range of health and well being issues by providing 1-to-1 support sessions. They will be more confident, increase self esteem and communication skills, and identify and work towards their own goals, 62,367 This project provides ski lessons and trips for children with autism or ASD. It helps them to be more confident, to have fun, and learn how to cope with accessing activities along with other children and the general public. Edinburgh Move On Ltd 97,445 A mentoring service for young people affected by homelessness or living in care, matching with adults or peer mentors. They will be more confident, increase self-esteem, have higher aspirations and achieve goals towards future education or employment. Edinburgh Multi Cultural Family Base 81,005 This project will help vulnerable children from a variety of ethnic backgrounds to have fun, feel safe and included, learn about and mix with other cultures and increase confidence, by providing after school and holiday groups. Edinburgh North West Carers Centre 10,000 This project will help young carers to be more confident and independent, and give them a break from their caring responsibilities. Trained volunteers will support them to access the services of the organisation and enable them to travel independently. Edinburgh Oxgangs Neighbourhood Centre 9,639 This project will run Baby and Toddler groups for low income families who face a number of social and financial challenges. Children will be less isolated and improve their learning, helping their life chances. 10

11 Edinburgh Positive Help 81,567 This befriending service works with young people living day to day with HIV and/or Hepatitis C. Through regular support from a befriender the young person will have fun, feel supported and have improved expectations for the future. Edinburgh Rock Trust 70,713 This project will help 16 to 18 year old care-leavers. Working towards recognised qualifications, they will learn skills to help them maintain a tenancy, be able to make successful transitions to independence and will be less at risk of homelessness. Edinburgh Saheliya 52,725 This project will provide counselling for girls and young women from black and minority ethnic communities who have been affected by traumatic and crisis situations. They will feel happier, safer and more confident, and improve their mental health. Edinburgh SCOREscotland 121,403 This project will help children from black and ethnic minority communities by providing support and activities and working with other local groups on joint projects. This will help them be more confident, feel safe, make friends and integrate with others. Edinburgh St Crispin s Out of School Care Association 63,303 This project runs an after school club for children with significant additional support needs. This helps them to have fun and make friends, be more confident, develop communication and coping skills, and promotes inclusion. Edinburgh St Teresa s Youth Club 50,915 This project will help young people from low income families in an area with a lack of opportunities by running weekly and holiday activities. They will learn new skills, have fun, become more confident and contribute to the community. Edinburgh The BIG Project 116,772 This project will increase the motivation, self esteem and confidence of children and young people living in Broomhouse in Edinburgh by providing activities and trips along with residential breaks and individual youth support. Edinburgh The Playback Trust 74,219 This project will run monthly activities and day-trips for children and young people who have a variety of disabilities. They will have fun, spend time with friends, be more confident and independent, be included in their community and try new things. 11

12 Edinburgh Venture Trust 30,253 Two wilderness expeditions with ponies for learning disabled children, including support before and after the trips. They will get the chance to overcome a variety of challenges to help them be more confident, make friends and develop self esteem. Edinburgh Waverley Care 129,732 The project will reduce isolation, increase self-esteem and develop the coping strategies of young people affected by HIV and AIDS by providing group and one-to-one meetings, activities and trips away. Edinburgh Yard Adventure Centre 52,557 This project will provide supported play sessions for disabled children and their families in a purpose built centre. This will reduce isolation, improve well being and give the whole family a chance to make friends with others in the same situation. Edinburgh YMCA Edinburgh 44,804 This project will provide holiday activities for children living in an area with high unemployment and low incomes, who may be carers or have additional needs. The children will have fun, be more confident, try new things and feel supported. Edinburgh Youth Bus Group 45,055 This project helps young people in areas with few opportunities who could be at risk of substance misuse or offending. It runs a drop-in club on a bus plus mobile sports, providing a safe place for young people to take part in fun and learning activities. Falkirk Falkirk Carers Befriending Project (Falkirk & Clackmannanshire) Falkirk Football Community Foundation 99,088 This project supports young carers by providing trained befrienders. The young people will receive one to one support and also attend group activities which lets them have fun, improve their self esteem and confidence and relieve stress. 80,031 This project will provide outdoor sporting activities and coaching for children who are young carers. This will help them to be happier and more confident and learn new skills. Fife Cottage Family Centre 91,089 This project will provide a therapeutic and counselling service to children experiencing challenging family and social situations. They will be happier and more confident, and improve their family relationships and aspirations for the future. 12

13 Fife Families First St Andrews 73,800 This befriending service helps children and young people who are facing a variety of emotional and social challenges. It helps them to be happier and more confident, to improve their social skills and to be less isolated. Fife Fife Women s Aid 118,102 This project will help families who have experienced domestic abuse. Support will be given before and after school and in holidays, so children and mothers will feel safe and secure, improve family relationships and reduce stress. Fife Funky Fifers 4,727 This grant will help a group from Fife go to the 2016 Wheelchair Dance Championships in Blackpool. Young wheelchair users will be less isolated, more confident, fitter and healthier, have fun and make friends. Fife Home-Start Kirkcaldy 3,856 This project will run weekly family groups for children under 5 and their parents or carers, affected by social and economic challenges and family difficulties. Children and parents will learn to play together and improve skills and confidence. Fife Home-Start Levenmouth 23,363 This project will provide weekly educational and fun sessions for disadvantaged families with children under 5, help them access play and learning opportunities and offering parenting support. Fife Fife Methilhill Community Children s Initiative Royal National Institute of Blind People, Scotland 7,733 This project will run a programme of creative and cookery sessions at a weekly club for children living in an area of social and economic challenges. They will have fun, learn new creative skills and about healthy eating, and be more confident. 91,776 An after school club for visually impaired children and young people, who may also have other disabilities. They will have fun, make friends, learn new skills and become more independent. Fife Safe Space 55,351 This project will provide counselling and support to young people aged affected by sexual abuse. It will help them to deal with their feelings, and feel safer and happier. 13

14 Fife Yard Adventure Centre 10,000 This project will provide supported play sessions for disabled children and their families in Fife. Children will have fun, make friends, be more confident and active, and families will be less isolated. Fife YMCA Kirkcaldy 79,346 A holiday playscheme including sports, arts, music and trips for children living in a disadvantaged area and facing challenging circumstances. The children will have fun and make friends, be more confident, learn new skills and feel cared for. Glasgow Drumchapel Table Tennis Club 9,700 This project will provide a programme of Table tennis aimed at 1000 children and young people aged 5 to 18 yrs., who attend 20 Primary Schools and 3 High Schools (including 3 Special Needs Schools) in the Drumchapel area of Glasgow. Glasgow Gorbals Youth Brass Band 6,225 This project will provide music lessons and group performances for young people living in an area of social and economic deprivation. They will increase self-esteem, make friends across the community, learn new skills and raise aspirations. Glasgow Paragon Ensemble Ltd 10,000 A Saturday morning music club for disabled children and young people aged 5-18 and their siblings. They will be more confident and independent; improve their social, communication and creative skills; make friends and have fun. Glasgow Glasgow Park Villa Football Development Group The Well, Multi-Cultural Advice Centre 8,892 This project will provide football activities for 70 young people in Govan, Glasgow. It will promote physical activity, encourage positive relationships with the community and provide essential life skills. 6,246 This project will provide a weekly mothers and toddlers playgroup for 40 children in Govanhill, Glasgow. It will improve confidence, increase social skills and enhance language skills to increase communication and reduce isolation. 15 Glasgow Givin it Laldie 30,114 This project will run a choir for children living in an area of high unemployment and low incomes, also affected by drug and alcohol issues and sectarianism. The children will be happier and more confident and make friends from different communities. Glasgow 3D Drumchapel 29,651 This project will provide a safe place to play for children living in an area of deprivation. Through various activities and regular one-toone play sessions with their parents the children will improve their well-being & family relationships. Glasgow Glasgow Ayrshire Communities Education & Sport Balornock East Residents Association 49,500 This project will improve the social skills and aspirations of young people disadvantaged by living in an area of deprivation by providing a range of fun activities, outings and projects after school and in the holidays. 60,830 This project will run summer activities, youth clubs, a youth board and healthy cookery sessions for children living in an area with multiple challenges. They will learn new skills, be healthier, more active and more confident. Glasgow Bobath Scotland 8,066 This project will provide a week of group activities for up to 20 children with Cerebral Palsy during October 2015 in Glasgow. It will increase confidence, increase independent living skills and reduce isolation. Glasgow Bridging The Gap 113,070 This project will support a schools transition programme, a baby and toddler group and play sessions for children and their parents/carers from an area of multiple deprivation. Glasgow Glasgow Buddies Clubs and Services (Glasgow West) Limited Crossroads Youth & Community Association 105,068 This project will run an after school club, Sunday club and holiday activities for children with a variety of disabilities. They will have fun, make friends, improve their social skills and become more confident and independent. 103,855 This project will deliver a range of youth work activities for 75 young people each week, complemented by residential experiences. Delivering in Gorbals, Glasgow, the project will increase confidence, improve health and develop life skills. 15

Glasgow Family Action In Rogerfield & East (FARE) 85,024 This project will increase confidence and self-esteem, improve health and well-being and break down territorialism for young people in Easterhouse, Glasgow, by providing activities and support. Glasgow Fuse Youth Cafe Glasgow 105,200 This project will establish a healthy living project delivering cooking and exercise classes in Glasgow s East End. It will improve health, increase confidence and support healthier lifestyle choices. Glasgow Geeza Break 103,748 This project will provide a range of play activities for children living with kinship carers in an area of low income and deprivation. They will have fun, make friends and improve their self-esteem. Glasgow Get Funky 9,454 This grant will provide dance classes for 54 children and young people in Pollock, Glasgow. It will improve their confidence, fitness and support them to work together as part of a team. Glasgow Glasgow Govan Home & Education Link Project (HELP) Govan Schools Piping Association 109,845 This project will provide a play therapy service to 225 children aged 3-12 in Govan, Glasgow. It will improve relationships, increase engagement in education and increase resilience. 10,000 This project will provide 120 young people from four schools in Govan with tuition in bagpipes and drumming. It will improve their creativity, increase confidence and create a greater sense of community. Glasgow Hear My Music 7,960 This project will provide intensive support to 10 autistic children and young people to enable them to progress to joining a music group. It will increase their confidence, reduce instances of challenging behaviour and improve communication skills. 16

Glasgow Home-Start Glasgow South 55,264 This project runs play sessions with a variety of trips and activities, for young children living in families facing many challenges.
