Please do let me know if you have any questions. Cordially, Robin Datta, Ph.D. Director, EdCC Honors Program Chair, Department of Political Science Edmonds Community College rdatta@edcc.edu
3 Philosophy and Values of the Program The program s philosophy and values build on those the College articulates. Program Philosophy: In keeping with the Edmonds Community College Mission the Honors Program increases the academic opportunities for highly motivated, intellectually talented, and creative students who strive for additional academic challenge. The program is open to all EdCC students who meet the basic admissions criteria and it emphasizes the identification and encouragement of students coming from campus programs. Students admitted to the program are challenged to develop their potential via a variety of education related activities, by developing mentoring relationships with dedicated faculty, and by participating in a community of motivated learners. Program Mission: The phrase Every Step of the Way encapsulates EdCC s general approach to educational opportunity. The Honors Program strives to build on that opportunity by: Providing and supporting an enriching and stimulating academic environment Creating and supporting a community of learners Encouraging students to make the best use of campus opportunities for integrative, interdisciplinary, and experiential work Stressing work in advanced critical thinking and analytic skills coupled with higher- level expression Serving as a pathway from remedial and college- prep programs through the college s academic transfer and professional tech programs and out to the four- year transfer institutions and/or employment
