2 About the Conference Welcome The Georgia Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) would like to invite you to attend the 2016 Cardiovascular Update. This meeting reflects our dedication to reducing cardiovascular risk and improving patient outcomes. Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Pharmacists should participate in order to enhance their knowledge, improve assessment skills, and network with colleagues. At this meeting, you will have the opportunity to learn more about the latest research and clinical guideline updates in cardiovascular medicine and apply this information to your own clinical practice. We look forward to providing you with an individualized experience that meets all of your learning needs. Emily Taylor, ANP-BC Activity Program Director About the Conference The conference registration desk will be open from 7:00am - 5:30pm on Friday. The program will begin promptly at 7:45am and continue until 5:00pm. All registrants will need to provide their member or non member ID# and address. Each attendee will be sent an evaluation link from assessment@acc. org following the course. Once the evaluation has been completed, you will be prompted to enter your name (as you would like for it to appear on your certificate) and your address. Once this information has been submitted your certificate will be automatically sent to the address you provided. Attire Casual attire is appropriate throughout the conference. 5 Speakers and Objectives Suzanne Cambre, RN, BSHA Ms. Cambre has been a cardiology nurse since 1974 and worked with Dr Mark Silverman at Piedmont for 37 years. Currently she is a nurse at Northside Cardiology. Murmur Assessment able to compare and contrast various heart sounds and practice appropriately identifying sound, as well as describing quality and character of murmur. Robert Campbell, MD Dr. Robert Campbell is a pediatric cardiologist at Children s Healthcare of Atlanta Sibley Heart Center and a Professor of Pediatrics, Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Cardiology. Dr. Campbell graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, attended medical school at Emory University School of medicine, residency at Emory University, and pediatric cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan. In 1984 he joined the pediatric cardiology faculty at Vanderbilt University at Nashville, TN and from he was the pediatric cardiac electrophysiologist at Vanderbilt. Following his move to Atlanta, GA in 1987, he was active in a private pediatric cardiology practice. Sudden Cardiac Death able to have a broader understanding of the scope of the problem of SCD, and population health-based interventions that lead to a decrease in sudden cardiac death in our community. Mary Katherine Cheeley, PharmD Mary Katherine Cheeley, PharmD, BCPS, CLS is a clinical pharmacist in primary care. She received her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in. She completed her Primary Care pharmacy residency at Grady Health System and received her board certification in pharmacotherapy in She also received her clinical lipid specialist certification in Dr. Cheeley currently practices in the outpatient internal medicine clinics, lipid clinic and the heart failure clinic at Grady Health System. She is an active member of the National Lipid Association and various pharmacy organizations. Her areas of special interest include dyslipidemia, resistant hypertension, and health literacy related to patient outcomes. Evidence-based Management of Hypertension: Keeping up with the Guidelines able to understand and apply pharmacologic principles in order to appropriately assess, manage, and treat hypertension, as defined by the ACC/AHA guidelines. Ellen Hillegass, PT, PhD, CCS, CAACVPR, FAPTA Dr. Ellen Hillegass is a physical therapist with APTA board certification in cardiovascular and pulmonary clinical specialty. She currently holds position of Adjunct Professor at Mercer University in Atlanta in the Department of Physical Therapy and Western Carolina, NC and developed the Cardiopulmonary Residency program at Mercer. Ellen is also the President and CEO of Cardiopulmonary Specialists, a private consulting firm that provides consulting and education on cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation and is a partner in PT Cardiopulmonary Educators, a web based education company. In addition, she is an instructor of continuing education programs across the country with Education Resources. She has been active in the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section for many years and is the co chair of the Payment and Policy committee. She is also on the board of directors of the COPD Coalition and chair of the strategic planning committee. She is also a member of the NQF Cardiovascular Performance Measures. Ellen was the Chair of the Clinical Practice Guidelines committee on Venous Thromboembolism for the APTA, and is the past Chair of the oxygen recommendations task force for the APTA. She is the Editor of Essentials in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy, an entry- level text with the fourth edition due late 2015, as well as the author of a clinical notes book entitled PT CLINICAL NOTES (formerly REHAB NOTES). She received her entry level training in Physical Therapy from the University of Pennsylvania, Masters of Medical Science in Cardiopulmonary physiology from Emory University, and doctorate in Exercise Physiology from the University of Georgia. The Patient with Pulmonary Disease: Understanding and Interpreting Pulmonary Symptoms and Diagnostic Tests able to recognize how to differentiate between symptoms associated with cardiac disease and those associated with pulmonary disease by understanding the pathophysiology of various pulmonary diagnoses, accurately assessing pulmonary symptoms, and appropriately interpreting diagnostic tests. 5
6 Speakers and Objectives Maan Jokhadar, MD Dr. Jokhadar is a cardiologist at Emory University and specializes in adult congenital heart disease and advanced heart failure/transplantation. He is fellowship director for the adult congenital training program. Dr. Jokhadar graduated from the University Damascus School of Medicine and then went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for internal medicine residency. He then came to Atlanta for cardiology training at Emory University, where he stayed on as faculty. Dr. Jokhadar has been the recipient of numerous teaching awards. Diastolic Dysfunction: A Cure for Insomnia able to recognize the clinical syndrome of diastolic heart failure. Explain common pathophysiology and identify signs/symptoms of diastolic dysfunction. Utilize appropriate diagnostic tools and apply appropriate therapies. Michael Lloyd, MD Dr. Lloyd is an electrophysiologist at Emory University Hospital Main Campus. He directs the arrhythmia device clinic and the Emory electrophysiology fellowship program. His primary focus is the treatment of atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, the implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, and the care of adults with congenital heart disease and arrhythmias. His research focuses on novel pacing methods, novel resuscitation devices, and arrhythmias in adults with congenital heart disease. Diagnosis and Management of Ventricular Arrhythmias able to analyze ventricular arrhythmias, understand cardiac disturbance etiologies and pathophysiology, and discuss various treatment options available. Arthur Reitman, MD, FACC A native of New Orleans, Dr. Reitman is a board certified cardiologist who graduated with a bachelor s degree in English literature from Washington University in St. Louis in He earned his medical degree from Louisiana State University, New Orleans, in After completing his internal medicine internship and residency at Tufts Affiliated Hospitals, he went on to a Cardiovascular Disease fellowship at Brown University, Providence, RI Dr. Reitman completed an Interventional Fellowship at The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City in 2002 and is board certified in Interventional cardiology. Special interests include complex coronary atherosclerotic disease, including atherectomy devices, novel antiplatelet therapeutics, and nuclear cardiology. Dr. Reitman is currently on staff at WellStar Cobb, Douglas, Kennestone and Paulding Hospitals. He currently serves as the medical director of the Catheterization Labs at WellStar Kennestone and Cobb Hospitals. Merging Management of Cardiogenic Shock able to discuss guideline-based medical and interventional therapy options related to cardiogenic shock. Barry Silverman, MD Dr. Silverman is board certified in cardiology and has over 30 years of cardiology experience. He specializes in non-invasive cardiology and pacemaker implantations. He obtained his medical degree from Ohio State University, his internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Hospital. His additional fellowship studies are from Johns Hopkins University and currently maintains teaching appointments at Emory University. 7 Statement of Need: The practice of clinical cardiology is evolving rapidly. Managing the needs of the cardiovascular patient has become increasingly complex. Utilizing the guidelines for the management and treatment of the CV patient is prominent in maintaining the highest quality of patient care. Goal Statement: The goal of this event is to provide evidence-based, relevant information regarding the evaluation and treatment of cardiovascular disease in the clinical setting. Cardiovascular Team members will participate in didactic lectures as well as an interactive assessment workshop to enhance their scientific knowledge and clinical skills. Session topics include diastolic dysfunction, ventricular arrhythmias, hypertension, murmur assessment, cardiogenic shock, pulmonary disease, and sudden cardiac death. Educational Design: CVT members will participate in didactic lectures as well as interactive workshops to enhance their scientific knowledge and assessment skills. Target Audience: The target audience for this course is Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Physician Assistants and Pharmacists that are based in a hospital or private practice. It is for the beginner, intermediate or advanced individual. Accreditation & Designation: (Nurses) The American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. The ACCF designates this educational activity for a maximum of 7.0 continuing education hours. Requirements for successful completion are attendance in a session in its entirety and completing the evaluation tool. While offering credits noted above, this program is not intended to provide extensive training or certification in the field.
