SUPERKIDS ROCK! (The Planet) Words and music by Sheila Wilson A short conservation musical, for super kids everywhere Key Stages 1+ and 2 Copyright 2011 Golden Apple Productions. A Division of Chester Music Limited, part of the Music Sales Group, Berners Street, London, W1T 3LJ, UK. The stage is empty. Children run on from all directions, greeting each other, hugging or high-fiving, waving and laughing as the introduction begins. Then they face the audience, and sing with gusto (and actions). Author s note: always make sure the children know the songs and words very well before teaching the (optional) hand-jives and actions. Otherwise they may never reach their potential volume! Superkids Rock! (actions, two part singing, kazoos) Superkids, superkids, Superkids to the rescue! Oh, superkids, superkids, Superkids will impress you! We come in all shapes and sizes, Full of promise, and some surprises. We are kids on a mission, Kids with a vision, Wonderful, witty and wise! (Part A) (Part B) Whoa! Superkids rock the planet! Whoa! Superkids rock the world! Whoa! Superkids rock the planet! Whoa! Hand Jives: Step left & clap; then right & clap. As above. As above. As above. Instrumental We come in all shapes and sizes (Part A) (Part B) Whoa! Superkids rock the planet! Every time that we meet, We choose a challenge to complete. First we rock and we roll, Cause music s so good for your soul! Wobble flat RH left to right; then LH R to L. RH V across eyes L to R; LH R to L; x2. Roll hands L, R, L, R. Criss-cross hands to left, then to right.
Superkids, superkids, Superkids to the rescue! Oh, superkids, superkids, Superkids will impress you Superkids! Superkids! SUPERKIDS! Yeah! For yeah, 1/3rd point up (with RH further forward than LH); 1/3rd bend a little & point front R, 1/3rd bend & point front L. Practise this before the song! Jack: Lisa: Amit: John: Alice: Dave: Come on, everyone gather round! Hands in the middle (they pile right hands together, and bend down) Su.uperkids!! (they jump up as they shout it) Superkids rock! What are we going to sing about today? Well, I ve been thinking... What about? We say we rock the planet. Yeah! Superkids rock! Maybe we should think about caring for it, too? How do you mean? Do you mean like save the planet, and all that? Su uperkids save the planet! How can kids (even Superkids!) save the planet? Hmmm (with chins on hands, wittily) A few children walk past, drinking cans of fizzy drink. 1: Hah! There s those super kids. 2: Always singing, dancing, having ideas. 3: Huh, what are they up to now? 4: I don t know. They should get a life, like us. Yeah, duh, hahah. (Then a bored silence develops) 5: What shall we do now? Err, I dunno. 2
6: Umm, let s watch TV. 7: Yeah, okay They finish their drinks, and throw the cans on the floor as they leave. Superkids: Did you see that? Pass It On! (actions, two-part singing, claps) During the intro & choruses, one or more Superkids pick up trashed cans from the ground (and maybe a clean paperbin) and toss them entertainingly into a green container. Everything s got to go somewhere, So pass it on, pass it on! (Clap, clap) Everything s ending up somewhere, So pass it on, pass it on! Actions for second time through: Wobble RH towards audience, then LH. (continue) (clap, clap) (continue) (continue) If you throw that can away Hundreds of years it s gonna stay Under our feet, til we live in A world that s just a global rubbish bin. Recycle it, recycle it! Like the wheels on a bike go round and round. Recycle it, recycle it! Get it back on the shelf, not in the ground. If you care for your fellow man, Re-use it, if you can. You know it s the best, It costs the world less, Remember this song And pass it on (Clap, clap) Point RH low left then high R ( John Travolta ). RH slow circles in air. John Travolta x2 RH palm down; LH; RH palm up; LH. Sway gently L to R John Travolta. x2 Repeat song (Part B echoes Part A) Whoa pass it on, pass it on. Whoa pass it on, pass it on. Whoa pass it on, pass it on. Whoa pass it on, pass it on. Sway gently L to R until end of song. Pass it on. Jane: Pete: Jade: Hah, I never thought recycling could be such fun! Ohhh, I ve got it now Got what? 3
Pete: I see how Superkids Pete: Pete: Julie: Mohammed: Susie: Su uperkids! (as before) Yeah, yeah, superkids can save the planet! How? Well, one person can t do it alone - (he jumps forward) Nor can two! (jumping forward) Nor three! (he also jumps) (Jumping) So how do we do it? Asha: (Jumping) I know - (Jumping) If we each do our bit Pete: Yes! If we each did, say, at least three things Julie: And everyone who heard us did, say, at least three things Alan: Then all together we would help to Gill: Pete: Save the planet! Well, we ve sung about recycling... What s our next song? Guy is wearing a short-sleeved T shirt. Guy: Brrr! (He turns on a heater & holds his hands out) Guy! Put a jumper on! Down, Down, Turn It Down (2-part singing, handjives, kazoos) Down, down, turn it down. Just a little, turn it, turn it down! (Girls) Down, turn it down. Down, down turn it down! (Girls & boys, 2 parts) Down, turn it down. Down, down, turn it down! (Repeat) 4 RH shimmy down; LH. Repeat. Tap L shoulder x2 then R, with clasped hands. Wobble clasped hands from chin down to hips. Tap L shoulder x2 then R, with clasped hands. Wobble clasped hands from chin down to hips.
If we all turn down the dial, Things improve in just a while, (Maybe a decade or two) For your kids as well as you. If you love the planet, And the people who inhabit it, Think about the benefit! Slide that lever down a bit! Instrumental (piano and kazoos) (KS1 option: repeat v1 This may sound a little strange, instead of v2) As you ll hardly feel the change, Yet we get to save the power, For another day or hour. Do yourself a favour And become a supersaver! The earth will not get weaker! It even works out cheaper! Oh, Down, down RH forefinger in air (as if for a good idea ). RH flat and lower it. Sway and click fingers L then R RH forefinger in air (as if for a good idea ). RH flat and lower it. As previous chorus. Kazoos Turn it down! Both hands point in air then point down Tom: Anita: George: Yeah! How do I look? (He s put on a sweatshirt) Great! So we can turn THIS down (she turns off the heater) And by the way, we don t need ALL those lights on! A teacher (real, or actor) says Oops, quite right and turns a light off in the audience - or somewhere where it will be noticeable) Nimisha: Cool! So, if we all recycle Ed: And we all turn the power down a bit Mia: Luke: Sarah: We re all helping to save the planet! That s not so hard! We need one more good idea to make it three. Hmm (posing, chins on hands again) (and laughing) A mum & dad (or granny & grandpa) come onto the stage side, make themselves some tea (cold water to be safe), and settle down to watch. 5
Mum: Dad: Mum: Brian: Brian: Sue: Brian: Look, it s those Superkids! I love their shows. Shh, they re thinking about the next song. I ve got an idea but it s a bit wet. What? Water! Groan Anyway, why water? There s LOADS of water in the world! AHA! Water, water everywhere, but not enough to drink Water, water, everywhere? This song will make you think H 2 O Blues (Brian could sing a solo verse) (KS1 option: repeat v1 H 2 O, H 2 O, instead of v2) Well, here s the news, I ve got the H 2 O blues. H 2 O, H 2 O, Don t be confused, I ve got the H 2 O blues. But there s oceans of water! You d probably think, As you turn on the tap And it runs into the sink. Yes, there s oceans of water! You probably say, As you pull out the plug And it just empties away. H 2 O H 2 O But the ditches are dirty, And glaciers are ice, And the rivers are murky, And sea-salt water s not nice! Yes, a single percent, Is just all that remains, So you know it makes sense, To keep it out of the drains. 6
H 2 O, H 2 O, Maybe everyone ought to Have the H 2 O blues. H 2 O, H 2 O, Will you give serious thought to The H 2 O blues? H 2 O, H 2 O, Maybe everyone ought to Have the H 2 O blues. H 2 O, H 2 O, Will you give serious thought to Don t forget what I taught you Won t you give serious thought to These old H 2 O blues? I ve got the H 2 O blues. (Whisper) Yeah! The couple watching applaud. The Superkids bow. Leon: Hang on Mum, Dad: how much water did you use?! (They hold up the kettle, which is still half full) M&D: Oops! Sorry, Superkids. They pack up & leave the stage, being heard to say... M: Great song! Those Superkids have really made me think. D: Yes. I bet there s lots of ways we can save water. M: Perhaps I ll take a shower tonight instead of a bath. D: And maybe I ll start collecting rainwater to water the garden. Noah: Joy: Alan: Yeah! Su uperkids! That s three great ideas we ve sung about. But there s still something missing An anthem. Yes. (To the audience:) Every good show has one. They arrange themselves with the back row holding up banners, or holding their hands in the air & swaying (for the intro and choruses). Love The Planet Look at the world around us, Look at our planet earth. How can we treat it lightly, Knowing its precious worth? Children can hold hands for this song. 7
Look at the world around us, Here for eternity. Help us to treat it rightly, Tending it carefully. Love the planet, save our world, For the future boys and girls. They have placed it in the trust, Of all Superkids like us, All the Superkids like us. Repeat song Whoa, Superkids, Superkids like us. Whoa, Superkids, Superkids like us. Ahh ahh. Raise hands and sway together L to R. Lower & simply hold hands for the ahhs. Mohammed: If Superkids everywhere join us, Then Superkids will save the planet! Su uperkids rock! (jumping) To the audience: John: Anna: Josh: Angie: Of course, those were just three ideas, We d love to hear more. Calling all superkids everywhere: let s share ideas. At Hey, look at the time! It s time to fly Everyone adopts a Superman flying position during the intro to the reprise. FINALE: REPRISE SUPERKIDS ROCK! (with same actions and ending as before) THE END 8
