2 NNOVATION The year was 1997 and the vision was to, well, to survive and make a difference. The first invention was an external fixation system, targeting device, better ESF pins, and better outcomes. Off we went. Then we got into the habit of obsessing over every orthopedic procedure. The question was never how can we improve the product or procedure it was when! During 2001 the groundbreaking Crimping/Tensioning system was introduced for cranial cruciate stabilization. This revolutionized how lateral suture procedures were done and dramatically improved surgical outcomes. Shortly thereafter, there was the break off bone anchors, then a new low profile TPLO plate, evolutionary designs for TTA followed by the first forkless TTA plate and the first cuttable TTA cage, advancement in coxofemoral luxation, hip resurfacing, fracture fixation and synthetic CCL replacement systems. Eight patents, several pending, many innovations and a lot of hard work and dedication, we have moved on. We are now beginning again, with Everost. Focused on next generation materials, products, and, of course, re-obsessing over every orthopedic procedure. The challenge over the years has been the development of optimal fixation methods. The engineers at Everost introduced the very first low profile TPLO plate that allowed for adequate fixation, as well as, easy closure. Many companies have continued to offer their own style of TPLO plates for the last decade. We challenged ourselves to think more advanced and not settle for designing just another plate. We are proud to introduce the Xorption TPLO Plates! Not only is the geometric design unique and novel but the plate is produced with the very latest bioabsorbable composites. Everost is pioneering bioabsorbable materials in many areas of veterinary orthopaedics. These TPLO plates have the strength necessary to allow for natural healing but will bioabsorb into the body over time. The engineers at Everost have been designing and redesigning TTA implants for over 10 years. We introduced the cuttable TTA cage, the forkless plate and the MPL spacers, to mention a few. 16 Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) is one of the greatest advancements for the surgical repair of cruciate deficient stifles, pioneered by the late Dr. Slocum. The founders of Everost have been designing TPLO implants for more than 10 years and hold U.S. patents in the area. With all the TPLO plates available today we challenged our engineers with the task of designing a NEW range of implants that are strong enough to allow for effective bone healing, but aren t too stiff to cause stress shielding. With today s materials, engineers have become complacent in their designs because many times we don t have to worry about the mechanical strength of the implant (when using 316LVM or Titanium), we just have to worry about the design and fit. We are proud to introduce the Freedom Lock and Liberty Lock TPLO plates. These implants are the very first locking implants that provide fixed angle options with poly axial freedom. Not everyone wants the freedom of sending screws at different angles and would prefer the holes to be at fixed angles. We have designed the Freedom Lock and Liberty Lock plates to have the best of both worlds. If one prefers to used them as fixed angle they would simply do so. If you would like to change the angle by 15 degrees in any direction the drill guide is put in at the desired angle. This technology is truly a break through. At the time the sole supplier of TPLO plates was struggling with quality issues. The technique was a very favorable one and the surgical community simply wanted a well designed, dependable implant and our engineers came to the rescue. We were the only company at the time that was able to mass produce a high quality implants. Since than, we have continued to innovate in the area of TPLO. We are now proud to introduce the Freedom Lock TPLO plates. These plates are the first to offer fixed angle locking with the freedom to change the angel if desired. The unique locking mechanism is set at a fixed angle but the angle can be changed by 15 degrees if desired allow for ideal screw placement. The shape of the plate is novel, as well. The cranial nose on the distal part of the plate allows for desirable bone purchase in the center of the tibia. It also offer s an additional angle to apply compression. The Freedom Lock implants are made from a unique Ti-6Al-4V alloy with a proprietary surface treatment that allows it to out perform the standard titanium implants. This combination of the unique Ti Alloy and the proprietary surface finish has been recognized as providing greater strength, biocompatibility and enhanced stiffness. The surface treatment also increases fatigue strength and improves surface characteristics. 20 Freedom Locking Screws Locking Holes, Freedom Lock The novel feature of the Freedom Lock Screws lies in the head. The head has a tapered geometry; double helix threads and the threads have interrupts. The interrupts of the thread allows the screw head to enter into the plate threads at different times, therefore, allowing for 15 degrees of freedom in the locking angle. The Freedom Lock screws are manufactured from the highest quality Titanium alloys to ensure the ultimate success. The screws undergo the same surface treatment as the plates. 32 Lateral Stabilization Surgical stabilization of a cranial cruciate ligament rupture using extracapsular suture techiniques was first described by DeAngelis and Lau decades ago. When our engineers first started looking at the technique in 1997 the best solution available was using fishing line and tying knots. It was clear to us, at the time, there had to be a better way. Over the years that followed, our engineers developed the crimp clamp system and upgraded the suture materials from fishing line to a certified monofilament. However, we didn t stop there. We continued to design better and more ergonomic crimping tools, precise tensioning devices and introduced high strength fibers to the procedure. Our designs became the standard of care. 35 RotaX Step-by-Step Instructions for Use Step 1: Drill femoral and tibial holes Step 1a: Drill the femoral hole in the caudolateral cortex of the lateral femoral condyle, at the level of the distal pole of the lateral fabella. Step 1b: Drill the tibial post hole at the Gerdy s tubercle (Area where the iliotibial band and the fascia lata go into the tibia). Step 2: Seat femoral post to desired height. It is recommended to seat to the bone surface if soft tissue doesn t hinder it. Step 3: Seat tibial post to desired height. Step 6: Pull the loop back toward the Femur and pull the opposite end of the loop to get the end to hook on the anchor. 38 ContinuOS ContinuOS Loop Ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber was introduced to the orthopaedic market years ago. It is a braided suture prepared from fibers of UHMW, long chain linear polyethylene. These sutures have excellent strength, high flex strength, great abrasion resistance, good handling characteristics and elicit a minimal inflammatory reaction in tissue. Everost is the first to introduce the ContinuOS loop fiber, which is constructed from the UHMWPE fibers and made into a continuous loop via a proprietary process. 46 FreedomLock Fracture Implants The engineers at Everost have been working on locking systems for many years. Our founder was the first to offer a polyaxial system to the veterinary market. Freedom Lock is the latest in locking technology and is an innovative mechanism that allows for 15 of freedom with screw placement. Unlike other systems, the screws do not cut their threads (leaving small chips of metal floating around), but instead have a unique thread profile on the screw head that allows the screw to enter the plate threads at different angles. This locking technology is being used on all the Everost locking implants including limited contact plates, TPLO plates, and a variety of specialty plates. The Freedom Lock implants are made from a unique Ti-6Al-4V alloy with a proprietary surface treatment that allows it to outperform the standard titanium implants. This combination of the unique Ti Alloy and the proprietary surface finish has been recognized as providing greater strength, biocompatibility and enhanced stiffness. The surface treatment also increases fatigue strength and improves surface characteristics. 52 Stainless Steel Locking Trauma Liberty Lock Buttress Plate The Stainless Taruma implants have the same locking mechanism as indicated in the Liberty Lock TPLO plates. The plates are very unique in that they can be contoured in all planes yet have rigidity close to limited contact plates. Between each screw location is bending zones to control where the bend occurs so not to damage the locking holes. The screw holes allow for 10 degrees of angulation in all directions. For much of that time patient specific sizes and contours simply didn t exist and veterinary surgeons were forced to use inadequate implants from the human side.
