1 Goals of Transnational Law and Business University TLBU Commencement Ceremony Development of regional & international cooperation and World Peace The Basic goal of the TLBU system is to strengthen the friendship and cooperation of regional and international society through educational exchange program. East Asian society is comparatively weak in regional and international exchange and cooperation. For the regional cooperation of East Asia, TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul provides a common education program of East Asian elite students who graduated from the best law schools in each of their respective countries. TLBU Graduate School of Law provides full scholarship to all students. For international cooperation, TLBU global system is composed of TLBU Graduate School of Law, TLBU Global School in Seoul (Bilingual Primary and Secondary School, the TLBU Institute in Paris and TLBU Foundation in NY NJ Area, in which area we are currently preparing for law firm and international high school institutes. 2 TLBU Seoul Main Building TLBU Field Studies in Europe (European Union in Brussels) TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul, Korea TLBU Graduate School of Law offers a two-year Masters of Law & doctorate program (SJD) on International Law, International Organization, European Community Law and Introductory U.S. Law. Emphasis is put on offering practical knowledge on various fields of transnational law. A. Masters of Law Degree Program 1. In-depth Study of International Law & International Business Law With the rapid pace of change in the global society, we inevitably have shifted our focus to international legal knowledge, instead of restricting our interests to domestic law. TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul will provide intensive lectures on International Law and International Business Law. Lectures on International Law will include field studies in International Organizations, where students can actually experience the operational system of International Organization. 2. Field Studies in Europe (Field Experience of International Organization and European Community Law) TLBU Institute in Geneva-Lyon organizes very practical field studies for international organizations and European Community Law. During one month in Paris, students will embark upon in-depth practical field studies of international organizations and comparative studies of European Community Law. The field training is also an invaluable opportunity to experience the culture of Europe. Field Studies for Chinese Law in Beijing (Cooperative Agreement with China University of Political Science and Law) During the first year, students will participate in 'Field Studies in Beijing' at the China University of Political Science & Law, one of the finest law schools in China. For this purpose, an official agreement on student exchange programs was reached with CUPL. 5 Doctorate Degree Program (Scientiae Juris Doctor SJD) The SJD is the highest degree offered by the TLBU Graduate School of Law. Candidates for the doctorate degree undertake coursework, research, field studies and develop a concentrated research dissertation. Because of our expectation of outstanding scholarship, TLBU is very selective in accepting candidates to the program and only applicants with exemplary credentials are considered. Admission is based upon the applicant s academic qualifications, scholarly potential, dissertation topic, and personal virtue and character. - SJD Program Overview Reading Assignments and Tutor System TLBU Field Studies at International Labor Organization in Geneva Each SJD student will have monthly reading assignments in accordance to his/her area of focus. Extensive reports and presentations based upon such reading assignments are to be submitted on a monthly basis. Participation in coursework will be conducted in small groups and extensive one-on-one consultations with a supervising professor ensure personalized academic growth. Special Lectures SJD students will attend various special lectures at TLBU covering modern trends in law, policy, culture, and business. International and regional government officials, experts and scholars share practical real-world knowledge and insight through TLBU Special Lectures. SJD students will be able to put their legal knowledge in the broader context of actual application and interaction with other social, cultural, political, and economic frameworks. Field Studies TLBU Graduate School of Law provides Field Studies in Europe for its students. Once in-depth coursework is completed, first-hand exposure to international organizations provides invaluable Special Lecture at Affiliate Law Firm in Paris experience for TLBU graduates. Students will meet with international experts, tour facilities, and study the backdrop behind the policies, procedures and mechanisms of international organizations. Case Study Every semester, candidates are given a case 5

6 TLBU Commencement Ceremony assignment in accordance with their area of focus. The study of the actual implementation of international laws, regulations, and policies, in real-world conflicts is an important aspect of the TLBU SJD program. Students are expected not only to hone their analytical and advocacy skills, but to become fully proficient with all forms of dispute resolution. Research Assignments All graduates of the TLBU SJD Program must be skilled in legal research and analysis. The ability to locate and discern relevant sources of information is emphasized through comprehensive research assignments. Ultimately, the development of a quality SJD dissertation depends heavily on a student s ability to efficiently and effectively conduct systematic research. Teaching Internships The ability to comprehend and analyze complex international legal systems is further developed at TLBU through Teaching Internships. Students will develop coursework and materials, and administer lectures based upon their area of focus. In addition to providing training for students interested in becoming qualified professors, Teaching Internships require students to fully grasp a subject area and develop their own expressions of the details and mechanisms of that topic. - Course of Study In most cases, candidates will complete the SJD coursework in two years. Candidates must earn at least a B average, and must also complete substantial independent research and writing. After completion of the coursework, candidates must successfully defend and complete a dissertation to earn the SJD diploma. - Scholarship Full scholarships will be extended to all accepted candidates, covering tuition, room & board, and limited stipends for foreign research & field studies. TLBU Commencement - Residence In principle, all candidates are to reside at the TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul throughout their SJD studies. - Who May Apply In principle, holders of a Masters of Law degree from the TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul are given highest priority for SJD admissions. 6

Combined with TLBU s rich academic background, TLBU Law Firm is expected to bring about excellence in legal services across the world. International Law Clinic Center at TLBU in Seoul For the efficient training of young international lawyers, International Law Clinic Center is set up at TLBU Graduate School of Law in Seoul. This International Law Clinic Center networks with a number of qualified law firms operated by members of the TLBU Community across the globe, including Washington DC, New York, Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, and France.
