1 Annex 10 Nursing Laboratory Operations Management 1. Venue and Facilities 1.1 Main Campus --- Health Assessment Room, Nursing Laboratory and Tong On Nursing Laboratory All 3 laboratories include 22 beds, including health assessment area and basic nursing area. The laboratories at main campus can accommodate 90 people for different types of teaching activities. The laboratories are mainly used for fundamental subjects teaching and students practice on health assessment and nursing skills. 1.2 Mong Ha Campus --- Childbearing and Adolescent Nursing Laboratory, Geriatric and Rehabilitation Nursing Laboratory and Adult Nursing Laboratory All 3 laboratories include 24 beds, including natal area, newborn caring area, youth health education area, elderly nursing area, rehabilitation area, adult specialised nursing area and peace corner. The laboratories at Mong Ha Campus can accommodate 100 people for different types of teaching activities. The laboratories are mainly used for specialised subjects and students practice on specialised nursing skills. 2. Teaching Facilities 2.1 SimMan Universal Patient Simulator 2.2 SimMan for multi-function cardiopulmonary auscultation 2.3 SimMan Patient for Nursing Practice 2.4 Intravenous injection, intramuscular injection, wound care models 2.5 Abdominal examination and prenatal care models, newborns models, breast self-examination models, etc. 2.6 ECG monitoring equipment, oxygen and suction instrument and other instruments 2.7 Medical equipment, instruments and supplies 2.8 Books and Teaching Materials for Spiritual and Life and Death Education 3. Users 3.1 Registered students of College 3.2 Teaching staff of College 3.3 People with College authorisation upon application 4. Opening Hours 4.1 Mondays thru Saturdays: 9:00a.m.~6:00p.m., in 9 sessions for online reservations: Week Period/Session Time

2 Mondays thru Saturdays 4.2 The laboratory is closed on Sundays and College holidays; 4.3 The laboratory is closed 2 working days before and on the days of OCSA and clinical assessments; 4.4 The laboratory will decide and announce opening hours during school days and College activities according to College guidelines; 4.5 The laboratory can be opened under special circumstances. However, written request has to be submitted to Laboratory Attendant 3 working days prior to day of use. The letter shall explain justifiable reasons, purpose of use, time and detailed information of users including their names and classes. 4.6 Nursing Laboratory Attendant: Main Campus Ms. Che Fong I; Mong Ha Campus Ms. Lam Soi Cheng 1 9:00~10: :00~11: :00~12: :00-13: :00-14: :00-15: :00-16: :00-17: :00~18:00 5. Regulations for Nursing Laboratory Usage 5.1 Booking Regulations Booking has to be made at least 24 hours prior to usage through College website Student Information Resources Laboratory Booking ; Once booked, the system will update the booking status; Booking is based on first come first serve principle; Users who have successfully booked to use laboratory can access laboratory with their student smartcard 15 minutes prior to scheduled time (smartcard access is only applicable to Tong On Nursing Laboratory). For the laboratories in Main Campus and Mong Ha Campus, students can access directly or seek assistance from Laboratory Attendant. Users who have successfully booked to use laboratory have to log-in through access control system with their student smartcard before entering the laboratory. Those who did not login on time will be automatically recorded as absent on the Laboratory Booking System (only applicable to Tong On Nursing Laboratory); To avoid affecting the rights of others in using the laboratory, it is not encouraged to casually cancel or change the existing bookings. If there is any need for cancelation and change, users shall visit Laboratory Booking System and make relevant modifications at least 24 hours prior to day of use (applicable to all nursing laboratories); Users who have booked to use the laboratory but did not show up or cancel the booking in advance will be automatically recorded as absent. If users are recorded absent more than 3

3 times in one semester, they will be blocked by the booking system for 10 working days counting from the last booking schedule as a warning; Users whose booking will be cancelled if they are late for 15 minutes and they will be automatically recorded as absent for this booking; If users have to use the laboratory at non-opening hours, they have to submit written request to Laboratory Officer at least 3 working days in advance. Users being approved have to borrow the laboratory smartcard / key from Laboratory Attendant within 1 working day. The smartcard / key has to be returned within 1 working day after use. Nursing Laboratory Booking Process:

5 5.2 Management of Laboratory Materials At the beginning of semester Nursing Laboratory Attendant will assign locker to each class. The practicing materials will be stored in the locker and be managed by students of the classes; Materials in the class locker are arranged according to the needs of different class years. Each class has to select two representatives to manage the locker and materials for their classes. At the end of the semester these representatives will undergo inventory works with Nursing Laboratory Attendant. Management of materials: each class locker will be provided with a password lock. The password will be given by the Laboratory Attendant and students cannot change the password. i. Expendable materials --- Class representatives can apply for supplies to Nursing Laboratory Attendant on the 15 th day of each month (if the 15 th day is a holiday, the application will be done the next working day after the holiday. Students who do not come for materials pick up will be treated as forfeited); ii. Non-expendable materials --- Class representatives can send the materials that need to repack and sterilize to the Administration Office at Main Campus ground floor / room 1507 at Mong Ha Campus every Thursday morning from 11:15-12:30 (if Thursday is a holiday, the procedure will be done the next working day after the holiday). Class representatives will confirm the quantity of materials with Laboratory Attendant before sending for handling. Class representatives can claim the sterilised materials with Laboratory Attendant the other morning (Students who do not come for materials pick up will be treated as forfeited). 5.3 Materials rental procedures All equipment, instruments, expendable materials in the nursing laboratories are for laboratory use only. Any person who take away the materials without Laboratory Attendant s permission will be treated as theft and be handled according to the rules stated in the student handbook; If there is learning or service need, students can borrow the equipment, instruments and expendable materials from the nursing laboratory. They can submit Application Form for Nursing Lab Materials (for Students) to Laboratory Attendant at least 5 working days before. If approved, applicants will be informed by Laboratory Attendant for pick-up time and procedures; Materials borrowed must be returned on time. If there is any loss or damage to the materials, students will have to repay accordingly (please see Annex 15). 5.4 Usage Terms and Conditions Nursing laboratory is open for teaching and practice purposes. All learning activates inside the laboratory shall be treated as seriously as clinical practice. Students have to strictly follow the regulations and conducts while practicing in the laboratory; Keep the laboratory clean and quiet at all times. Do not make noises, eat or drink in the laboratory; Students should make good use of the beds, SimMan and models during practice. Do not stay too close, sit, or place personal items on the beds. All used materials have to be returned to their original place after use. Waste materials have to be properly handled by categories to avoid danger and harm; All instruments, models have to be used according to procedures. Check the instruments and models clearly after use, to ensure that power is switched off. If there is any question, contact Laboratory Attendant for assistance immediately; After using the laboratory, turn off all air-conditioning, fans, power, doors and windows to

6 ensure safety and to save energy; Do not bring non-college person to the laboratory; Users will be suspended from using the nursing laboratory for 10 working days once any of the following incident took place (except attending regular classes): Using laboratory without making any booking Violating laboratory usage regulations Absent without justifiable reason from booking for more than 3 times in one semester 5.5 Usage of Student Smartcard: Students have to use their smartcards to access nursing laboratories for all scheduled bookings (only applicable to Tong On Nursing Laboratory); To ensure College security works, students have to properly keep their smartcards and do not lend to others. If there is any damage, loss or theft, students have to report to General Administrative Department immediately. Otherwise, the owner of the smartcard shall be responsible for any loss of the nursing laboratories; For the application, re-issue and protection information of the smartcard, please refer to Student Handbook.
