Focus areas for students include: Energy Education, Conservation Conversations, Your Future and Money, Energy Empowerment, The Future of Food and Solutions and Future Visions 2009 Successes Goals for 2010 Teacher orientation included information for creating environmental clubs Increase the amount of curriculum documents available online Participated in department-wide ride Increase awareness on office efficiencies sharing efforts Investigate seedlings for Earth Day project Used the Partnership Center as a central location to cut down on drive times for Attend the Future Friday at the Sustainable Living Fair meetings Promote the Environmental Film Festival Reduced the use of consumables Promote environmental clubs Promoted an Earth Day celebration Look into efficiencies on when to 700+ students attended the Future Friday telecommute at the Sustainable Living Fair Add additional training courses online Added trainings online Continue to support and develop partnerships and acknowledge their efforts via Connect newsletter or Partnerships website Work with Partnerships to develop the website to connect teachers and community through the Partnership Center grant 2010 Successes Goals for 2011 Continuing effort to increase amount of documents available online Unified plan information documents and videos was posted online process Offered support to schools interested in environmental clubs by working with school department leaders Capitalized on virtual conferencing technology for out-of-state applicants for the Director of Information Technology position; applicants had tele-interviews instead of traveling to the interview Continue to post documents online, eliminate duplicate publications, and work to streamline posting and organization Investigate additional uses and opportunities for virtual conferencing within the department Continue to add additional training courses online Create documents for standards transition and make documents available online for teachers

Technology components of textbooks are tested for compatibility with PSD systems and textbook evaluation groups include a member from IT to evaluate technology components save time, storage space, and VMTs Continue to have an evaluative factor within in the textbook review process for a digital component. Increased use of digital materials will avoid paper use, limit the need to recycle books once they are obsolete, and reduce the number of lost textbooks that need to be replaced Measure and examine processes within the department to find areas of improvement Invest in textbook inventory software to effectively manage textbook distribution and internal shift of resources across the district. Software will save staff time, resources, and money. Continue to create online documents for the standards transition to reduce paper copies Hold an internal garage sale to redistribute surplus instructional materials within the district
5 Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Annual Sustainability Report Page Successes Goals for 2013 Utilized virtual conferencing whenever possible, including for interviews, to access experts in the field, and to hold meetings, VMTs which saves travel time, VMTs Investigated a more efficient textbook recycling process through vendor but ran into obstacles Partnered with Instructional Technology to investigate digital textbook components textbook adoption committees now include a member from Instructional Technology and decisions are able to move forward easier with the help of IT Continued to examine office processes to find areas of improvement, streamlining, or savings Worked with Information Technology to examine textbook tracking software but software did not meet expectations Created online documents for standards transitions and online presentations for principals, reducing the number of meetings necessary Held a garage sale to redistribute surplus instructional materials within the district instead of recycling items or sending items to the landfill Formative Assessment class monthly activities are done through Blackboard and participants only meet face-to-face once per semester, saving VMTs and travel time Use virtual conferencing for principal feeder meetings, saving travel time and Continue to investigate textbook recycling and refine the textbook recycling process Invest in textbook inventory software to effectively manage textbook distribution and internal shift of resources across the district. Software will save staff time, resources, and money. Streamline processes for instructional material review and adoption primary delivery model will be digital content and IT will be brought in to examine infrastructure and capacity needs; assessment program will be delivered via computer within two years Enlarge the scope of online Professional Development options by using a hybrid model with digital activities through Blackboard and face-to-face meetings activities can be completed online and number of face-to-face meetings can be reduced Utilize the Synergy student information system to access demographic and performance data. Currently, information has to be pulled for multiple systems. Use of one system will streamline reports and simplify data requests Increase the number of digital courses for students created through Blackboard o Teachers will be able to create content, allowing for the district to own a much more significant portion of the content o o Classes would be more versatile and would match standards; courses through outside vendors don t always match standards Teachers wouldn t have to make materials to match the classes created by outside vendors Build a partnership with the Rotary Club for STEM support and explore and expand STEM opportunities (ongoing goal)
6 Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Annual Sustainability Report Page Successes Goals for 2014 Contracted with a textbook reuse firm to locate a secondhand market for used textbooks; if a secondhand location was not identified, the textbook was recycled Researched and selected textbook inventory software to improve textbook management efficiencies Provided digital video trainings in lieu of face-to-face meetings, which reduces VMTs and travel time Increased the access to digital curriculum materials, which reduced the amount of printed materials needed Worked with the Wellnes Advisory Committee to help establish health and wellness goals Increased the number of summer school course offerings offered through digital means Used district-adopted Synergy student information system to streamline reports and simplify data requests Identify rate of fitness among students by implementing districtwide physical fitness assessments Update health curriculum and instruction to reflect current research in adolescent health and fitness Incorporate concepts of sustainability into content curriculum where appropriate (e.g., Agricultural Education) Research and adopt an assessment management system that gives teachers real time access to student achievement data, reducing requests for custom data reports Research and implement an educational program tracking tool to create, monitor, and house student goal setting plans (i.e. READ plans, Advanced Learning Plans) Explore opportunities to expand curriculum adoption through digital means, thereby reducing the number of bound paper textbooks
