1 High School and Community College Students HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS Each year the Hampton Roads Chapter offers scholarships to recognize outstanding graduating high school seniors for academic achievement and to provide financial assistance to seniors planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree with a major in a financial/resource management related field (e.g., business administration, economics, public administration, accounting, and finance). The school year scholarship packages have been mailed to all area high schools. In June of 2012, the Hampton Roads Chapter will award three scholarships: $1,500 first place, $1,000 second place, and $500 third place. The first place winner will then have the opportunity to compete in the ASMC National Scholarship program for one of several scholarships. Interested high school seniors should contact their guidance counselor for additional information and scholarship application forms. Applications must be postmarked no later than February 10, 2012 to be considered. Any questions, please contact Raylin Neblit, Scholarship Committee Chair, at (757) COMMUNITY COLLEGE In a continuing effort to promote the financial management career field and to reinforce our commitment to the communities in which we serve, the Hampton Roads Chapter partners with Thomas Nelson Community College and Tidewater Community College each year to offer a $500 scholarship at each school. Applicants must be full-time students enrolled in a two-year curriculum focused on a financial management field of study and transferable to a 4-year institution. Interested students should contact the college s financial aid office for additional information. Annually, the Hampton Roads Chapter (HRC) offers two continuing education grants: (1) To an ASMC chapter member ($500) and; (2) To the dependent of an ASMC chapter member ($750) planning to pursue a degree in a financial/resource management related career field (e.g. business administration, economics, public administration, accounting, and finance). The attached files contain information and application forms for the two HRC grants. Applications must be postmarked no later than 16 Apr Grant information will also be posted on HRC s web page. 2 FOR ASMC MEMBER Annually, the American Society of Military Comptrollers (ASMC), Hampton Roads Chapter (HRC), offers a continuing education grant to an ASMC HRC member. A grant of $500 will be awarded during the spring of Funds will be paid directly to the grant recipient and must be used for tuition, fees or books. Grant recipient must provide verification of college enrollment prior to receiving funds. SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA Applicant must be in or entering a business or resource management field of study relating to military comptrollership (business administration, economics, public administration, accounting, etc.) Applicant must be a member in good standing (dues paid in full) of the ASMC HRC Applicant must have a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 or have an acceptable placement test score. If the applicant is already attending college, a GPA of at least 2.0 must be maintained. The grant is for tuition, fees, and required text books only. The grant recipient will be selected by the ASMC HRC scholarship committee. APPLICATION PROCEDURES Complete and sign the application form. Attach two letters of reference to the application form. A grant of $750 will be awarded during the spring of Funds will be deposited with the college/university and must be used for tuition, fees, and books. SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA The grant is available to students pursuing a degree in a financial/resource management-related field (e.g., business administration, economics, public administration, accounting, finance) in a 2- or 4-year college or university. The applicant must be a dependent of a member of the Hampton Roads Chapter of ASMC in good standing (dues paid in full). The applicant must have applied to a college/university and, on acceptance, provide verification to ASMC prior to receiving funds. The applicant must have a high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.0 or have an acceptable placement test score. If the applicant is already attending college, a GPA of at least 2.0 must be maintained. The grant is for tuition, fees, and required text books only. Residual dollars may be retained by the school in an account for the recipient to be applied toward the next school term tuition, fees, and text books provided the student maintains at least a 2.0 GPA. The grant recipient will be selected by the ASMC Hampton Roads Chapter scholarship committee.
